Chose a more local & intimate club.
I trained with Shotokan a number of years ago & found them very corporate. I felt like a number ie take the cash do a generic lesson & pack them off. I went through the belts relatively quickly but they didn't take the time (or effort) to individually teach each kata. I went for my Purple belt & everything went swimmingly (like the ones before) but they chose to give me a temporary Q (failure) because back at base I was struggling with the next 2-3 kata's. I decided to quit at this point because I saw nobody willing to take me aside so I could advance towards my brown belt. If you want to learn karate I would recommend a small intimate club where they notice you & not Shotokan.
