Since Feb 2026 till now
Since Feb 2026 till now, and we wanted to give them this third chance to provide better service, but sparks broadband continues to disappoint. And week by week we recorded on our calendar the buffering that hasn’t gone away. Even tonight, watching the news on freeview, its buffered seven times! We’ve given up on recording it. Spark assured us that Fibre was going to be great. And we switched from Starlink with having hope. The wifi service has been piss poor. Starlink is still by far, way better. Ka kite ano Spark. You’re not worth it.
Zero customer service
Zero customer service, impossible to find someone to talk to.
I have been trying to cancel my account…
I have been trying to cancel my account for more than a month and get a refund because I'm in Australia now and have a credit but they keep changing the date and putting me off I'm sick of there over charging and there bad service and they are the most expensive phone companie in Australia clean up your act spark I've been a customer for 30 years and this is how they treat you.
Would leave ZERO or even NEGATIVE stars…
Would leave ZERO or even NEGATIVE stars if I could.
Bought a prepaid "Travel pack" at Auckland airport on arrival. Was charged twice due to "confusion" by salesperson. Have been trying to get a refund for weeks but Spark refuse to accept that it happened even though my VISA account clearly shows 2 transactions.
Good broadband, terrible cancellation experience
Spark’s broadband service itself was fine. While connected, I had no major issues and fortunately did not need to deal with support at all.
The problems started when I tried to leave.
We moved to a rural location where fibre was not available, so staying with Spark broadband was not an option. Cancelling, however, was far harder than it should have been. There was no obvious way to cancel through the portal, chatbot interactions went nowhere, callback requests were not actioned, and phone queues were lengthy.
After repeated efforts to cancel before moving, Spark then charged a notice-period fee because, from their perspective, cancellation had not happened early enough. In effect, their difficult cancellation process became my financial problem.
The final bill was also confusingly explained, and the account was treated as overdue while I was disputing it, adding unnecessary stress.
I paid the final amount to avoid any non-payment issue , but the experience changed my view of Spark completely.
The broadband was fine. The exit experience was awful. Prospective customers should be aware that leaving may be much harder and more expensive than expected.

Sent me confirmation of a roaming pack purchased but continued to charge me casual rates. Service is average at best customer service is unhelpful
Spark NZ consistently has the worst…
Spark NZ consistently has the worst service both in terms of reception and also customer experience.
They are chronic over chargers, their customer service is so hard to get hold of (it took 3 days for them to reply about roaming charges while overseas) and they simply do not care.
For a communication company this has to be one of the worst customer service business in NZ.
We have since moved our personal and business contracts to 2 degrees, and WOW what an incredible difference in reception, customer service and price!

Upgraded 2 phones to Samsung S26 plus and had great service from Rikus. We are little challenged with technology but Rikus guided us through with expertise.
Useless customer service when setting…
Useless customer service when setting up a new fibre broadband connection. It took 5 weeks to get it working. First they couldn't associate my address with a fibre connection, despite there being a functioning connection and ONT box, and the previous occupier having had a fibre broadband connection with the same equipment and a different ISP. Then when using WhatsApp to talk to Customer Service, one person said the connection had been established and I should reconfigure my modem, another said the connection hadn't been established and I should wait until Spark had done something to finish it. Contradictory. Spark's instructions for configuring non-Spark modems are buried 3 clicks deep in their setup guides, and are missing important information. The order tracker function still showed the connection as "In progress" when I eventually got the modem configured and had full fibre internet connectivity. None of the Customer Support people I talked to seemed to get any useful information from their technical departments.
Totally unhelpful!!
Attended Manukau store between 10.30 & 11.30am 9/5/26 to find out why my data was being depleted at an alarming rate. The guy I saw took my phone, pushed a few buttons and said "its fine now".....he couldn't explain what happened. On the way home I tried to use it but got message "No internet". Back to Manukau and spoke to a woman who told me "you have no data" and made me pay to get data. Again she couldn't tell me why my data was exceeding the normal amount. Back home my 12 year old niece looked at my phone and told me that my Wi Fi connection had disconnected and that was why my data usage had shot up. I am a pensioner and not familiar with these things. I found both of the Spark employees absolutely unhelpful.....why couldn't they have told me that. No wonder they have a 1.2 rating!!!
Data allowance depleted suspiciously fast
This is my 2nd trip to NZ. I bought the $42 prepaid SIM from Auckland airport during this trip in Apr 26, and by the 6th day, the 10GB has been wiped out; the data was used largely for navigation, playing Spotify while driving and some media consumption by my travel companion.
I went on to purchase the $21 data pack via the app and received a notification that my order has been received, and will have to wait about 15mins for it to be updated in the app.
However, nothing happened after that duration and they kept depleting the balance I put into the app wallet, as casual data (overuse charge). I rebooted my phone and it was still the same, so I went to Spark's shop in New Lynn Mall to seek help and the staff told me that my order was stuck in the system and could not go through; the best he could do was to raise a notice/request to their head office and hope they will expedite it.
Prior to visiting their outlet, I have already messaged them for help in the app and they only replied me more than an hour later.
In my 1st trip 3 years ago with similar usage for the same trip duration (8 days), the data allowance did not drain so fast and I even had quite a decent amount left by the time I returned.
Such service lapse cause so much inconvenience to me, and I would unlikely use Spark in my subsequent trips again.
Imagine paying $100 per month just for…
Imagine paying $100 per month just for their garbage fibre to never work. Can't even browse without issues, can't play games, can't study cannot even download. Explain to me why we're paying for this internet again?
I can't even contact them
I can't even contact them. I live in Australia and am now managing my mother's finances and need to discuss her account. No international number available and everything is either AI or automated. Absolutely disgusting. I can't even provide feedback without listing a New Zealand mobile number which I don't have. This company obviously does not place value on PEOPLE!
I live in a small village near Thames
I live in a small village near Thames. In the last 6 months my mobile reception has been appalling! Calls to Spark has produced no help at all. I have to go outside to get any reception at all. I live alone and fear that if I ever need help at night I won’t be able to call anyone because no one can hear me speaking on my phone from inside my house. I’m still being charged the same on my account! You need to up your game, Spark!!!
Deficient technology. Terrible customer service. No support.
I purchased online from Spark a travel eSim that never worked. The QR code they sent me was faulty and coudn’t be installed. I called Spark customer service, waited an hour and wasted another hour talking to a representative overseas unable to assist me. They asked me hundreds of personal details including my phone’s IMEI and EID numbers for no results. I was unable to access internet with my Spark eSim card for the whole duration of my stay in New Zealand.
If there was a ZERO option, that’s what I would rate Spark
Absolutely shocking experience.
I have paid Spark at least NZ$267 in prepaid top-ups and packs over recent months, yet my balance repeatedly showed $0 and it was never clear what credit or services were actually active on my account.
I contacted customer support multiple times through live chat trying to sort it out. Each time it felt like they were simply playing chicken to see how long I would stay before giving up and leaving the chat. Hours of my life were wasted waiting, repeating myself, and getting nowhere.
Instead of proper support, I was sent through endless automated chat loops, given generic responses, and received no real ownership of the issue.
No clear answers, no accountability, and no urgency to resolve a problem involving money already paid.
As a customer, you expect basic transparency and support. Instead, I was left frustrated, wasting time, and still without proper resolution.
I would not recommend Spark based on this experience.

The most revolting monopoly in NZ.Is not enough they stinks in everything they continue to shove their CRAP in my throat.
We had a very disappointing experience…
We had a very disappointing experience with Spark. Our broadband and landline (via modem) were extremely unreliable—calls would drop or break up, and customers often couldn’t hear us. The broadband was also so slow that streaming was nearly impossible. Unfortunately, we found their customer service unhelpful and unresponsive.
Since switching to Kiwivoip, the difference has been huge. Their customer service is easy to reach and always helpful, and our landline has been working flawlessly. We’re very pleased with the improvement and will also be moving our mobile services over for a much better overall experience.
The 3G shutdown seems to be just an…
The 3G shutdown seems to be just an excuse to try and sell new hardware. I got sick of the warning message about the shutdown everytime I make a call on my 100% compatable 4g and 5g phone. Called the number and asked for the message to be turned off. This was refused. I pushed further and they asked for my account number which is is beyond ridiculas, who has this handy. After asking to speak to his supervisor he hung up. Will cancel my account and go back to One NZ.
Sidenote warning can be truned off by dialling *#*#86583#*#* this is all they had to tell me rather than waste my time.
