I have been using styleseat for many years. I love the fact you can schedule or people can book through the app. However, I don't like that when you book a service you have to scroll through all of the services you have and if you miss it you have to start over and over till you find it. Secondly, it is very expensive when you look at the over all expenses. I was paying $35 a month but they still take a percentage when the client pays. Then they take upto 50% of a new client. (Who normally doesn't come back). Usually clients like that have a stylist or they are from out of town and/or they rarely come to the salon. Then they take money for the client to book. They say they advertise but you might get 1 new client every 2 month and my experience they usually cancel before they come. Which leaves a big gap in your schedule. Then you are short of funds however., they do offer deposits now if you are paying monthly. ( small revision after this was posted they did update the service where you can now type the service you want and now it pop up at the top.)

The reminders are good. I’ve lost a couple of handful of customers, because of the new booking fee that isn’t returned to the client that I don’t receive. Don’t like the booking fee, the percentage that you make every transaction and the fee keeps going up to keep styleseat. I’ve really been considering leaving and going to another booking app that I see my other coworkers use with less fees and more new clients. Plus to get customer support from yall sometimes is a big hassle.

This is by far one of the worst booking apps for industry professionals to use. They throw people on your book without giving you an opportunity to confirm appointments. Clients are constantly upset with me and leaving me bad reviews due to StyleSeat “rules and regulations” that I have no control over. StyleSeat offers business owners very little autonomy. There are constant penalties and fees. They charge you 30% new client fee on clients they didn’t find. They don’t have consistent policy and procedures. Some client appointments they ask you to approve, others l they don’t and they don’t explain why. If you decline an appointment they penalize your business. They lead clients to believe they have an appointment without confirmation from the stylist. They don’t account for client changes or emergencies and they penalize the stylist. You can’t accept cash payments. They don’t resolve issues or problems within their app and payment systems. They send you generic responses and solutions, when you explain those answers don’t resolve your issue they completely stop communicating with you. When a clients payment is declined they penalize the stylist. A lot of clients payments to reserve the appointment are invalid. You aren’t able to send clients links in their messaging portion of the app. They don’t let you reach out to clients to ask questions about services, especially if you see they potentially booked incorrectly and will potentially need to reschedule or cancel. Only clients are allowed to ask you questions through the app, stylists aren’t allowed to start conversations with clients. It’s just terrible for a business owner. They come off 60% unethical in my opinion….the lack of consistency is a huge red flag for me.

I like the new client connection and not having to search or market for clients. I just wish there was a better way to verify clients who are not new and have booked with the same number and new account creation.

Whenever I have an issue it takes over a week to get a response from customer service. A booking fee is hidden and charged to my clients. Unfortunately, I have used styleseat for so long that it is difficult to switch my business.

I have a love hate feeling with StyleSeat I really really don’t understand why when I booked a client under smart pricing StyleSeat takes a percentage of the transaction and another for smart pricing. If I select smart pricing for a client it’s because I’m working a day I normally don’t work so I charge the client more. But then I really don’t see a decent percentage because style seat takes some of the percentage I really don’t like that. I will have to go away to charge my clients more and have them check out another way.

I don’t like how they charge people to book-
Also, they assume they brought me a new client and want a big percentage of the service total.
(My “new” clients are referrals.)
I also don’t like how when a client cancels you reach out to everyone to see if they want it-
I have a cancellation list that I manage and would like to fill it myself.
I don’t like how they make special pricing for time of day booked- I manage my price increases as I see fit.
All very frustrating for me as well as my clients.
