I emailed Sunlife Canada- HR multiple times recently emphasizing that this is urgent & I need my tax forms ASAP. However, they kept delaying , and did not send me anything. Then they lied & said forms are mailed out & you will have it on Feb 29. Today is Mar 7 & I still don’t have my tax forms. My third party filing tax for me is severely delayed. I have followed up again with SL & they have stopped responding. Beyond worst, HR department & their services. I, infact also offered I can pay for a pre-paid shipping so then I can track, but they didn’t respond.
HR needs to change, & do their jobs better. I did not like my experience.

requesting a simple transfer of funds 2x under $5.000 each. Over 2 months now. cant even get a reply to my text. Very unprofessional.
Next step is to find out whats involved in transferring my investments to another institution.

Sunlife provides terrible customer service. It does not give replies to customers requests. Also Sunlife increases life insurance premiums unilaterally. My life insurance premium has gone up over 600% over the last few years. Sunlife refused to give any reasons for the increase. Sunlife is the worst insurance company in Canada.

I don't even know how to describe what horrible experience my daughter had applying for Personal Health Insurance. Applied in September 2023, resending all documents twice - as "something" was not completed, requested ALL medical history from her doctor office. Back in November everything was submitted. No response until mid January. I followed up by calling horrible customer service. My daughter received an email a week later that they are still reviewing her documents. In February she received a letter saying" It is Sun Life's opinion that this history is significant in assessing insurability and regretfully, it exceeds the allowable risk parameters of this insurance product". Really? if you need medications you are not worth their time... TOO EXPENSIVE INVESTMENT for SunLife? Just want to mention that she applied for the most costly plan.
Please do not consider Sun Life for your insurer if you don't want to feel like the worst category. Respect yourself!!!!!

This must be the most unprofessional organisation l have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They don't know what they are doing, don't know what is going on and can't help you when you ring them up.
They have deducted 45% from my father's life insurance policy; no explanation other than 'our claims team will follow it up' which they never do. Apparently their claims team 'do not take phone calls' well that's very convenient isn't it?!
Clueless buffoons who most likely do not know their backside from their elbow and if l could give them less than one star l would.
Denied coverage
I was told I needed to be immobile in order to receive any short term disability. They do not consider all disabilities, and/or mental health conditions when assessing you. I appealed with multiple doctors notes and letters, but ultimately I was told that my chronic illness was not severe enough to receive as little as 3 months coverage. I was heartbroken and had to take time off work without pay. I also didn't get any answers regarding this until I was already back at work 3 months later. The stress of the situation made the 3 months even more difficult to manage.

Totally agree with all these bad reviews on here, we lost my Mum over a year ago now and we are still battling to liquidate a trust fund. It has taken over 6 months before anybody even started looking at it, it has cost us a lot of solicitor fees and a go between finance company and we have still not settled. Any excuse to delay things and ask for ridiculous things that have either been provided or they claim they are not correct. I cant discourage anybody enough not to invest with this company.

A claim was previously approved via an Estimate/Quote but when paid receipt submitted for payment they denied the payment. REALLY

Don’t ever start RRSP with Sunlife. They lie about everything even after the maturity date to get your funds. Waiting nearly a year even though you told them you need it you’ve fill out all information they ask for and provided as well as bank account for funds to go into. They’ve lied and the money needed now has put me into a terrible situation trusting this company. DO NOT INVEST WITH THIS COMPANY, TRUST ME YOU’LL REGRET IT. They know the urgency of the funds you need and don’t care, just thieving your money and not releasing your own funds.
Ambulance charges decline
I am extremely disappointed with the services provided by SunLife. Recently, my one-year-old son experienced a choking incident, and we had to call 911 for an ambulance. Despite their arrival and necessary treatment, it was decided after an hour of monitoring that transportation to the hospital was unnecessary. I promptly paid the charges from Alberta Health for the ambulance, but upon claiming the expense with SunLife, my request was declined. Their explanation was that since the ambulance didn't transport the patient, the reimbursement was not applicable. Despite explaining to the customer service representative that the initial intention was to transport him, SunLife chose to use this technicality to deny the claim. This kind of excuse is both absurd and deeply disappointing, especially coming from an insurance company.

I never took a life insurance. I called over 10 times to cancel. They keep taking my money out even when they said that a refund was made

Annoying and incompetent
They'll constantly send you spam emails that you can't opt out of, give you pop-ups you can't disable, and generally make the act of looking at your benefits as miserable an experience as possible.
ALSO they're bad at managing finances! I now owe the CRA significant amount of money, because sunlife didn't hold enough funds for taxes when I made a withdrawal. That was literally the reason the CRA provided me.
SCAM
Only used Sun life because I was leaving my current company and needed to move my investments out. A financial advisor called me and wanted to help with my finances. I told her I bought a house and wanted to do the new home buyers plan. She told me to open an RRSP and put money in and will call me in 90 days to take the money out for the new home buyers plan. 90 days comes around, she calls me and transfers me to another team to withdraw the funds. I am now told by this team I only had 30 days from when I bought my house to withdraw the funds therefore am unqualified for the plan. I wrote a complaint to my financial advisor, and suddenly she is no where to be found. Either this lady is unknowledgeable of the rules or she is knowledgeable and just wanted to make commission on me opening an account. Either way HORRIBLE Sun life. Not only this, she suggested I invest in certain funds, and since, I've only lost money! STAY AWAY FROM SUN LIFE. Manage your own money.
4 months now since requests sent by…
4 months now since requests sent by mail and post to transfer my pension pot from Sun Life, since then they have used every excuse under the sun to delay, even sending offensive questionnaires that make out I am some stupid idiot. Now they have 8 days left to comply PRA and FCA now informed
Sun life Deceiful
My wife’s parents started a life insurance policy in 1976 for her. In 2012 a Sun Life representative informed us that we could withdrawal mature dividends in the amount of 3200 and that it would not affect our policy in any way no documents were signed and we used the money to pay off a one year interest free furniture loan. To our disbelief we were informed years later that Sun Life classified it as a loan which had accumulated extensive interest and depleted our policy. We contacted many representatives from Sun Life who agreed we had been misled and lied to yet the company would not do anything other than force us to close the policy. My wife has Lupus stage 4 kidney disease and other health issues. Sun Life is absolutely despicable ruthless and if nothing else I hope this review will inform other honest people trying to help loved ones to never deal with Sun Life Respectfully Submitted David and Heather

Would never recommend this company. My mother in law died 4 months ago and they’ve said it will be next year before we get her life insurance due to a back log: how is this even legal?!
