Unethical 'Booking' Practice to Upsell
Booked a ticket through them at a given price.
Received a call within 15 minutes indicating that they couldn't honour one of the flights because of the booking system but that I could have a seat on the same return flight for £350 more.
Looked at alternatives on Google Flights where the price had spiked.
Refused to purchase through them as there were alternatives on another flight on the same day at a different time. Said to them - unless you can honour that price, I won't be continuing with the booking.
They pushed me over to a supervisor who had a 'direct contact' at the airline who indicated that they could reduce the price but still at £150 more than the original booking price.
I said to them that if they couldn't honour it that they should cancel the booking on their side. Phone call ends. Note this is late at night - call centre is international.
Returned to Google Flights 30 minutes later to enter same flights same details. Price is back to what it was originally. Booked direct with the airline. All confirmed at the original price.
This is a very slick operation with forcing you into agreeing to higher prices - when you 'book' through them - you are not confirming your flights, you are merely agreeing to them to confirm your flights on your behalf - they don't confirm the flight and then they try to upsell you based on urgency (only seat left, systems not working based on availability, direct contact with Airline representative etc.) - do not fall for it and ask them to cancel due to their inability to honour the booking. Go direct to the airline.
