Experiences with Job Listings on Twine.net

I’ve used Twine.net as a filmmaker and DoP for some time, including a period with a paid membership, to explore freelance opportunities. Unfortunately, my experience has not met my expectations.

Although there appear to be many job postings on the platform—especially in Filmmaking, Videography, and Post-Production—I haven’t received any valid client responses so far. Some listings also seem questionable or difficult to verify; for instance, companies mentioned in certain posts don’t appear to have any online presence.

For comparison, I’ve worked on other freelance platforms where projects and clients are easier to confirm, and communication tends to be more consistent. Based on this, I would recommend that freelancers carefully review listings on Twine before investing in a paid plan.

This review reflects my personal experience and opinion as a professional user hoping to find genuine creative projects.

Over all, a poorly functioning site...

I paid for a year so we'll see if it gets better, but I won't be paying again once my time is up.

Just an advert to bring you in and get money

Just a job advert to bring you in and get money. Instantly they get you to register with all your details - but you reach your application limit without even being allowed to apply for one contract. Obviously money grabbing and to get more freelancers on the books. I would always be wary of any company who wants money before even allowing you to trial their system. You should never have to pay to work. But also be aware there are other websites like them.

Instead, we offer a free account where you can apply to a limited number of jobs per month, and an optional Twine Pro subscription that unlocks more opportunities (like 50 job applications per month, featured placement in searches, and client contact details for direct communication).

We vet every freelancer before they appear to clients, so the profile setup helps us match people with the right jobs. We don’t require anyone to upgrade, and many freelancers do land work on the free plan.

We hear your point about wanting to try before committing, and that’s fair – it’s something we’re actively exploring to improve. Our goal is to provide transparent access to real freelance jobs without hidden fees or commissions. We're in the process of increasing limits currently, and this should be live in a of couple weeks.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with this platform. I applied to multiple projects and quickly realized that at least 25% of the opportunities were scams. I invested hours preparing proposals for so-called clients who turned out to be fake.

It feels like the platform is not doing enough to protect freelancers from fraud. Instead of connecting with real clients, I ended up wasting time and energy dealing with dishonest postings.

If you’re serious about finding real projects, I would recommend being very cautious here. The platform urgently needs stronger processes to filter out scammers and protect the community.

Complete waste of time

They publish jobs on Linked in, in order to apply you have to log in and open an account. You can only apply to one job a month with free account and some jobs are not even visible to you. I decided to try the free 1 month trial. I took the time to beautify a portfolio and an elegant profile, this takes 1-2 hours (documenting work experience, history and keywords for skills). I applied to a bunch of jobs. I took the time to explicitly mention relevant projects from my portfolio. Then went through some AI chat-bot interviews. This also takes about 20-30 minutes per role.
I got nothing, no replies, no one (human at least) sending me a message back.
I've read that some users were able to get jobs from there. This was not my experience.
I would not recommend wasting time with this platform.

We know freelancers put a huge amount of effort into building portfolios and applying for roles, so it’s frustrating when that doesn’t result in responses. Out of interest, did you try the resume import feature to save time getting set up?

On Twine, freelancers can apply to at least one job per month for free, and Pro gives more applications and visibility, but we never restrict freelancers from getting started. While we vet jobs to ensure they’re legitimate, we can’t guarantee client replies. Some projects receive many applications, and ultimately, it’s the client who decides who to engage. They sometimes use automated pre-screening questions to save time for both freelancers and clients, but clients always review shortlisted applications directly.

We’re glad you tried the free trial, but we completely understand it’s disappointing not to get traction. Many freelancers do land projects on Twine, though it can take persistence and targeting the right jobs.

We’ll take your feedback on board to improve the freelancer experience, especially around making application effort worthwhile. Not really useful for freelancers

There are many jobs offered and sometimes there’s something interesting among them. But yes, you need a pro account if you want to apply; with a free account you hit your limit more or less right away. And the times when you do reply to a job, you just don’t get any response from the advertiser. I’m also not planning to test it for a month at $18.99, because when I read the reviews, it doesn’t seem to get you much further. So again, it’s a revenue model for the organization, but not for freelancers.

Support is non existent, subscription is a scam

Support is non existent, they do not answer me in the chat at all. Most of the posted jobs are very generic standard or AI descriptions and if you have questions about a job, no client ever responses. You don't even get any responses on offers. Clients expect to pay extremely low and request high level designers. As a freelancer, you need to pay a yearly subscription to apply to more than one job per MONTH! This is a complete scam, I could understand it if you would be limited to one application per day but per month is just ridiculous. Twine makes money off of poor freelancers!

Our support team replies to all messages during UK working hours Monday to Friday and we aim to respond within one working day. If you haven’t received a reply please check your spam folder or reach out to us directly at support@twine.net so we can help.

In terms of client replies, we understand it’s frustrating when clients don’t respond. We vet jobs before they go live and guide clients on best practices but ultimately we can’t force them to engage. Freelancers with strong and relevant applications do tend to get better results.

Some job descriptions can be more generic especially in early stages of a project but we’re always working to improve the quality and clarity of listings.

Regarding the subscription you get up to 50 applications each month with Twine Pro not just one. You also get access to client contact details and better visibility in search results. We charge a flat subscription rather than commissions, which helps keep more money in freelancers’ pocket,s especially on larger projects

Web Site Broken on Signing Up

I just joined up, created a profile, uploaded my work, then whenever I try to do anything it says I need to activate my email. So I activate, tells me it's done, but still won't let me do anything - rinse, repeat, stuck in a loop. If the site is broken on my first experience I don't hold out much hope for anything else. The help chat is beyond useless.

Very disappointed

Iam very disappointed and feel like a fool after using Twine.
Iam struggling with money (like half the population of the world) so websites like Twine are our only hope to make some extra money.I signed up for free hoping to find jobs and spent my time looking for suitable jobs posts to apply for and everytime I applied, I got a message saying that I don't have priority when I apply because I'm using Twine for free so that way Iam manipulated and obligated to pay in order to level up to a PRO account by promising that I can apply to jobs more easily. Twine also made me spent time in setting up my portfolio, promising that by doing so Iam increasing my chances for receiving work. For one whole month I spent time and money on Twine applying for jobs and the only interested client I got was apparently scam.
The way you promote Twine is misleading and manipulative. 
The sad part is that your target market are people who are struggling everyday to survive with low incomes and the least people like me need, is to be taken of advantage during these hard times.

and top it all twine has made it really difficult to cancel a subscription and now Iam in a position where I need to urgently cancel my subscription to stop getting charged. I cant cancel and when I try to contact support Iam being ignored. If this continues I will have to report Twine.

That's how we keep the platform running without charging commission fees on jobs. That said, you should never feel manipulated or obligated to upgrade, and I’m sorry if we gave that impression.
