I love Up and Under, a genuinely great independent shop. Fascinating browsing (genuinely amazed by how many niches are catered for) and every time I walk in I’m confident that the staff there will have top tier advice on the right gear, and if they don’t they know somebody who will. I’ve used their fitting services for rock shoes, B2 boots, crampons, and harnesses and have been very happy with the products and prices every time. The boulder and ice walls and nice touch. Also a big fan of their support for local climbing, hiking, and mountain clubs and charities, real community players.

I went to up and under after a poor experience buying my first climbing shoes at a chain. The staff ( really wish I remembered your name, so sorry) was so helpful and with great knowledge of the sport. She understood my needs and did a proper shoe fitting and then tested each shoes on their climbing wall. I cant big them up enough, they allayed all my fears on the choosing part and I was able to pick a shoes which was the best fit for me as opposed to the "brand" that people said online or sizing tips they gave. Please, especially for beginners in South Wales, go here and try the shoes with the staff here, all seem to be climbers themselves too. Thank you so much for this. I would give 6 stars, if I could. The price is very reasonable too.

Having been searching for a specific backpack for my son for Christmas for some time, I found one on Up and Under's website with only a few days to go. I placed the order and emailed to see if there was any way it could be sent by any quicker option to hopefully arrive by Christmas. Thanks to all at Up and Under, particularly Ben who replied quickly, offered a different delivery option, arranged this and kept me updated. Great customer service.

Bought some lovely Meindl shoes a couple of weeks ago from Up and Under. Really good and nostalgic to have your feet measured properly so that you don’t find out that they don’t fit until it’s too late. Have been walking in them a lot for four days with no problems at all - really comfortable.

I ordered new climbing shoes at 3pm yesterday. Not used this company before but they were the only company online with the size needed and in stock. They arrived at 1015 today. Good communication from company and very happy with the item so would happily recommend

Ordered an item about 11pm on Wednesday night and it was delivered about 8am on Friday morning. The price of the item was quite cheap compared to other sites, although the shipping costs were quite high. It still worked out the cheapest I could find it though.

Awesome independent outdoor gear shop & online retailer based in Cardiff. Highly knowledgeable staff, super patient with me trying on around 10 different pairs of climbing shoes to find the perfect fit!

If they don't have it in stock, just ask and they can order things in for you, advise on local venues, and even offer great discounts with proof of outdoor body memberships like the BMC , BCU etc

So this is a calculated ‘hoiking you in’ tactic. Avoid.

If you want really great service where the staff make a real effort to ensure what you're buying is the right product, come to this place. Don't actually know if the prices are good or not but I will continue buying here.

Knowledgable staff, great range of kit. I've been shopping with them for years. They really are the go-to for all outdoor clothing. Latest purchase were a pair of trail running shoes. Great price and fit perfectly. Thanks guys!

Can't recommend highly enough - friendly staff, very knowledgeable and have experience of the wide range of products they stock. We were looking for a new pair of walking boots and Dave gave us plenty of practical advice and was very patient while he found the right style and fit for my wife.

Sadly Up and Under don't cater for women with feet larger than a size UK7 if you're looking for walking sandals. This is very disappointing and hugely demoralising from a specialist shop.

Purchased walking boots here this morning. First class knowledgable service. Did not feel pressured at all.

In search of a long-lasting waterproof for work and leisure, I visited this Cardiff store. My priority was to purchase as ethical a product as possible and although I could have purchased online, buying in-person is always my preference. Having previously researched my options on Ethicalconsumer.org and emailed the top 3 companies with questions, I was pleased to see that 2 of these companies were stocked.

Trying on the Rab and Patagonia jackets, it was wonderful to be able to speak to staff who knew far more than me about where the products had been produced and their Fair Trade status plus their environmental credentials.

The shop really is like a tardis as not only does the building extend far back but was surprised to see so many canoes and kayaks upstairs. A huge selection of brands, colours, fit and items. Very impressed!

Absolutely delighted with kayaks I bought online. Elan was super in helping me select suitable kayaks and paddles for my location and users. There was a hiccup in international delivery, but Elan sorted it all out promptly. Highly recommended.

The place to go for outdoor clothing and gear. Expert advice available on purchasing the right equipment for your needs. I bought some walking boots here, for my wife for Christmas, the sales assistant was very helpful and it wasn't a problem trying on a number of different makes until she found the pair that suited her best. She's worn them a number of times and is really happy with them.
