There really should be a 0 stars for…
There really should be a 0 stars for this.
I came here looking for someone to listen while I discussed a painful and complicated situation in my marriage. Instead, the listener barely seemed to read what I wrote, repeatedly gave generic advice I had already addressed, and made judgmental assumptions about circumstances they never bothered to ask about.
After I explicitly described being treated “like a pet rather than a man,” they asked whether I was a man or a woman. After I explained that I had repeatedly spoken to my husband and that any improvement was temporary, they told me to try talking to him “one more time.” Most egregiously, they said that if I wanted financial independence, I probably would have achieved it already—without ever asking whether I was able to, what barriers existed, or why I was financially dependent.
When I objected, the response was essentially, “I’m sorry if you misunderstood me,” followed by more of the same advice. That is not an apology; it shifts responsibility back onto the person who was harmed.
This was not merely awkward or unhelpful. It was actively harmful. I entered the chat already distressed and left feeling more judged, isolated, and unheard than I would have felt had I never used the service. I reported and blocked the listener. A service built around “listening” should require its listeners to actually read what people say before imposing assumptions on them.
They promote paid therapy while placing vulnerable users with Listeners who are either untrained or trained so poorly that responses like this still occur. If this conduct reflects their training, then the training itself is deeply harmful. Either way, the service deserves far greater scrutiny.
UPDATE: As of 7/25/2026, the only response I received was:
Hello ----,
Thanks for giving feedback for -------. We want to let you know that your opinion is valuable for us and we use it to help the listener grow.

I crossed my username out to protect my privacy as well as the Listener's, for as awful as they were. I did follow up with them and am back in queue to receive "support."
Just be wary when using this service. They have the great potential to be harmful.

Very bad app
Very bad app. Listeners are not treated with respect. No matter how much time and effort listeners put into helping others, accounts can get blocked without proper consideration. Even after submitting requests and appeals, accounts often remain deactivated with no clear resolution. This treatment is unfair to dedicated listeners who genuinely support members and contribute to the community.
Shitty mods in the group chat
Shitty mods in the group chat, I can’t count the amount of times I’ve been banned for something I’m not at fault with, when they’ve never banned the ones who have actually been inconsiderate to other members. Watch your business go down, to all the 7Cups mods out there. Because you’ve done a great job so far.
Has Really gone downhill :(
I used to be a volunteer listener for 7 cups briefly & recently remembered it for when I needed help. One person was really casual in conversational style & when I said I felt judged for not wanting children, said "do you think you should judge yourself?" A few weeks later when I thought let's try one more time, a listener started a chat, asked what was wrong & then never responded/continued the chat at all, just left hanging. Unfortunately I think it's obviously gone downhill a lot & the volunteer counsellors aren't very well screened or regulated anymore. Could even be risky for some.
Beware of 7 Cups
I really wanted to give just one star, but I rated 7 Cups two stars because even though I am really disappointed with them, I did get a little experience supporting people. However, I don't think my information is safe on this site. A user entered a chat, and though everything is anonymous, the person knew personal details about me. I am still anxious about the experience. It was really unnerving. I engaged with listener support, but that only made things worse because the help I got came off as dismissive or indifferent. There was no compassion. After reading a couple of reviews that said 7 Cups steal therapists' information, my distrust of the platform has increased. My encounter with a user who had intimate information about me and claims that they have stolen other's online information really makes me question their ethics and whether they would (intentionally) leak volunteers' data. Because of these concerns and for other reasons, I am going to delete my account and stop volunteering with 7 Cups.

Been in a fight to get a refund for 2 months now. The company charged for an additional month on my account despite canceling weeks in advance. Company never responds to emails, and there seems to be no way to reach any actual person on the phone. Truly terrible customer service.

Very sneaky about subscriptions and difficult to cancel - customer support has so far taken two months to sort out my refund :(
I had thought naively, that 7 cups was non-judgemental and didn't give advice, I was wrong!
I am a listener who was banned for not giving advice! Short version of the story ... I'd been with cups for 5 years and done all the training there and got lots of nice reviews. Chatting there has changed, however, with our clientele being more disturbed and more in need of psychiatric support than just a chat with untrained listener.
Cups is always telling us how helpful it is to listeners who want to learn more, so I contacted a mentor to discuss the different members with more difficult issues. I was not given any guidance, but instead ended (naively) up in a mock chat to see how I was doing with empathy. The chat was about bullying by a boss at work. The mentor seemed to think that I, as a listener, should be suggesting the pretend member should talk to someone, and also suggesting / advising who this might be! In my country (the UK) that would be giving employment advice without training, and the only people you should talk to are HR (if it wouldn't make the situation worse) or a Union rep if it was that serious. I said this to the mentor, but they didn't hear me, and told me to then carry on treating it as a bullying at work situation. That is still needing proper employment advice and support, and I pointed that out as well. A couple of days later I found I was banned for thee months -- something to do with not interacting with a mentor, and my side of the story was not listened to when I sent in a request to be heard.
Considering 7 Cups is a worldwide listening service, this worryingly all feels like promoting bad practice. There are lovely listeners who work very hard as volunteers, but if you have a serious issue (beyond a bit of self-esteem awareness or breaking up with your bf) you should try a service nearer to home where there is proper, professional training given. ChatGPT might work as well; it is very empathetic, and can give you ideas of places to look for help too.
Makes your mental health worse
I paid for therapy because I was struggling with something, dumped my personal problem onto therapist which was hard to do, and the therapist ignored my message for days other than an automated message. Now, the support has been ignoring me for an entire business week.
I signed up on Nov 19
I signed up on Nov 19, 2025 and requested to cancel and receive a full refund on Nov 25, 2025. I never used the paid service (zero sessions / zero usage). Instead of simply cancelling and refunding, I was sent a retention-style response and on Dec 2, 2025 they offered a partial refund ($60) rather than the full amount.
Now, over a month later, this still hasn’t been resolved — and they’ve even attempted to charge me again. I received a bank alert showing a second charge attempt of $219.48 from 7CUPS.COM, which was declined. This happened after I’d already been trying to get the account cancelled/refunded, and I’ve since deactivated my account, so I can’t even manage anything on my end.
This is unacceptable. I asked for a straightforward cancellation + full refund and got delays, partial offers, and continued billing attempts. If you value your time and don’t want to fight for weeks to stop charges and get your money back, avoid.

The company charged me in full for a month, without an option for weekly payments. The therapist did not respond to me for six days. The app would not update or allow me to join sub groups. I reported the technical issue without any response. I asked for a refund after not getting the help I was so desperately seeking. They did not respond to my request again after I declined a discount and new therapist.
It's a scam
It's a scam. You pay 159$ to message a fake therapist that responds maybe once every 24-48 hours or to talk to unprofessional "listeners".
That's a lot of money for nothing.
The 14 day refund policy is also fake.
They will not give you any money back.
I already contacted the customer service ,they offered 60$ back even though I cancelled this no sense membership and didn't want to use it.
Contacting the customer support doesn't lead to a solution.
When I logged into the account to get more information I realised that even though I paid 159$ I couldn't even login to my account after only 2 weeks!!!
Stay away from this and never pay for it!! It's like throwing money in the garbage.
Stay away from this scammer website.
This website should be shut down!
Before 7cups gives me any standart response, I have contacted your "customer support" multiple times and they still don't want to give me my money back. I provided ALL necessary informations.
My Experience
An excellent website if you’re looking to be ignored, ghosted, or left on read. The listeners here don’t seem to care, even when members are opening up about serious struggles and being pushed toward calling 988 or a local warm line instead of receiving actual support. Honestly, I wouldn’t trust this platform with anyone’s wellbeing. You can share something vulnerable, like addiction or other personal challenges, and the listeners will leave you hanging as if you don’t matter at all. I strongly do not recommend this site. Its decline is rooted in the behavior and indifference of the listeners themselves.
Very little support for Listeners who are dealing with members with severe psychiatric issues
I (was) a long term listener with 7 cups who did all the training to get their certificates, had over 250 positive reviews, and volunteered in other admin and support roles within the platform. I had two chats I had severe concerns about, and both with people diagnosed mental illness they alerted me to. Both were also very abusive, and one was even convinced I was the friend who had raped and was now on 7 Cups, stalking her across the platform. Listeners on 7 Cups are supposed to have mods and admins to handle these things, but before I could ask for support, I found I couldn't access my account. I am presuming I was banned because of reports sent in by the members I was chatting with, but I am not even sure of that. A month later I had not received any communication about what happened, despite contacting the Admin team, and being told I had to wait 7-10 days to hear.
After many days' reflection / feeling hurt, upset, AND somewhat used, I realised I’d been given a wake-up call. 7 Cups only really exists to promote their paid for therapists. The 'free' side of things are the listeners who are volunteers with little training, hardly any back -up and have to expect to chat with literally anyone.
I am as open-minded as the next person, and thought my many years as a teacher might be helpful in dealing with chats, but this is not true Often chats I have taken part in have been disturbing, and having someone say they are there masturbating while you chat to them is pretty creepy. I have chatted people in trauma, chatted with someone needing to take their anger out on someone (I was standing in for whoever they are angry with), chats who swear at you if you talk common sense, and chats who come back with new accounts, even if you block them, and continually threaten with violence and death. If a member doesn't like a chat, or is just feeling the need to be vindictive, they can report you for any reason they can think of. The admins will then ban you, saying it is important to listen no matter what and be ‘kind’ even if we are abused. We then have to prove we didn't do anything wrong -- it's guilty until proven innocent. During my time on 7 Cups, have also seen how the fast listener turnover is. Most volunteers don't hang around either when they realise what is happening, or when they get weirded out, which is often. In conclusion, 7 cups are using listeners to provide a free service, and then blames them for wrong doing although being given proper support.
EDIT - a month after the ban I received an automated response about giving off site contact details, and it would be a permanent ban if I did this again. I feel I have been victimised here, and have sent a sternly worded response to the support team and will, again, report back here if I get a response. In a real life situation, I would of course have contacted Human Resources, brought in my union, hired a lawyer AND taken them 7 Cups to an employment tribunal by now.
It’s disgusting how the “listeners”…
It’s disgusting how the “listeners” treat you. I think this app is dangerous: it only made me feel worse. It made me feel unseen, fooled and more lonely than before.

I had the weirdest experience
I had the weirdest experience, we were all sharing and out of nowhere this girl sally came and scolded us, that we must follow the rules, that we should only talk 7minutes, and we were all like but we werent even talking for 7minutes as yet, and she got me banned from the 7cups registration after I called her out on it and then got rude.

Scammy
Scammy! Please stay away
I went to check out the website after a Google/ChatGPT search and they somehow managed to loop me into a subscription and change my card 12.99 despite never having used their services.
The customer service is opaque, they told me weeks ago they would refund but since have disappeared.
I would definitely advise against.

7cups likened to Social media
No transparency into listener ratings, and the very system of listener ratings using a 5-star system is very one-dimensional. More criteria should be involved, instead of a generic 5-star system. Feedback to listeners is not immediately available - they constantly advertise you to join their coaching program, along with more verified listening programs, tests and etc... The passive-aggressive marketing of their courses and programs to listeners doesn't stop. Ratings are also biased, as they reflect the member's personal opinions. It should come to notice, that there is the concept of different therapeutic styles within listening skills, and that not everyone will fit the same cup.
