I had Author House publish my first book and was satisfied enough to repeat with my second work.
The results were the same. Excellent contact with A H reps, prompt replies to questions and magnificent job done on book's cover.
AuthorHouse never made the book available to be ordered at bookstores
I talked with about 5 different people during the process of having my book completed. Only one of those people were good at returning calls and answering questions. Now that the book is completed and I have a question about royalties, I can't get a response. I guess I'm on my own about figuring out what happens next.
I sent this company money years ago and a proof for a book and have never had anything in return. They ring me frequently though trying to sell me film rights for my book - a tv series - all sorts of cons. Untill I actually see my book in print they are not getting another penny from me.
What has made my experience great is that all members of staff working with me have been truly enthusiastic and helpful. They have been willing to work with my limitations. Unlike so many who use terms like 'valued customer', the people at AuthorHouse really do make me feel valued.
This was my first attempt at writing a Children’s book. I was assigned 5 different people to work with as each one had different areas of expertise. The first two people were fabulous. They were extremely friendly and helpful. The illustrations were wonderful,It went very smoothly. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. The next two people had little patience, didn’t return emails and I was forced to go over their heads. Their supervisors were very understanding and helpful but one of the staff stopped returning phone calls and told me he had to many authors to work with, among other things. I led a large company with 70 employees and an answer like that is unacceptable. So in essence, I’m not sure if I would publish again with Authorhouse. I was made to feel inadequate as I did need assistance with the computer which I took it upon myself to hire someone. Everything took 5 minutes to understand if only their employee was willing to take a few minutes to help me.
The Employees were all Helpful & the Authorhouse Site easy to navigate … attached forms on emails transferred easily … My experience & expectations from My career made the transfer of files easy but limited the ability of Employees to follow Their usual design & production efforts … There were some Issues but it was part of the book production
The care of the first person who helped me ran all the way through the company steps. Also, the company was prompt about getting the work done.
Overall, Authorhouse did a fair job.
My observation and experience finds that calls or emails were not returned. When calls are made by some staff no message is left. Communication is lacking.
Too much concern over the all mighty dollar, really left a bad taste in my mouth. I know you need to make money but some of that leads to poor customer service.
The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in some circumstances. Marketing jumps in too quick and absolutely no guidance provided for new authors.
Quality control-does anyone look at what is published after entry to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Authorhouse. The information about the book was more of an authors note and other areas were left blank. Why aren't you using the information in the Submission Information Form. The form itself says you may send it in as a separate Microsoft document. Send to who and when?
YOU KNOW WELL YOUR BUSINESS: EDITING, VERY HELPFULL, THANK YOU!
Phone calls were not always returned. As a result questions were not addressed.
From the very start, my experiences with the Author House staff was professional, friendly, and helpful....I would recommend your services to anyone looking to self-publish a book!!!!
Promptly answer calls and make someone feel at home. Used high quality materials to print my book.
The company has the details of publishing down to a "T". They have all of the bases covered and are able to nurse a novice writer through the complex process.
I can't say enough bad things about this company. I am considering taking them to court it's been that bad. STAY AWAY
Annie Barrete was thoughtful, genuine, patient, and best of all so friendly. This makes a huge difference to a first timer. So happy with Authorhouse! Wouldn't mind working for them.
Customer service is horrible. I could never get through to the person I was trying to contact and had to wait for an email. I was told at the initial contact that bookmarks and cards would be a part of my package like they were provided with the last book I published with author house, then after the book was complete I was told that was never an option. I had to email Jose in marketing 3 times, before finally receiving a reply! I asked that a supervisor contact me regarding the bookmarks and I have heard nothing! This is the third and possibly last book I ever publish with Author house! Staff, customer service etc...used to be top notch! That is no longer the case!
I read the five-star reviews and wonder if there are two different publishers called AuthorHouse. I could write a thousand words and still not convey just how bad an experience I had. For an extended period, AH staffers did not answer emails or answer my questions. The few people who finally did respond told me different (often contradictory) things, and each new “thing” was to cost anywhere from $1000 to $5000 in addition to the $5000+ I paid initially. I came to disbelieve anyone’s praise because it was always coupled with spending more. Marketing was the worst. As a traditionally published author of 7 books, I had hopes of finding readers for my novel. I spent over $10K at AH for marketing and I do not believe it led to any sales. I am a person of some means so I could absorb the cost but I hate to think of an author of limited resources cajoled into wasting money as I did. I would never consider engaging AH again, or recommend it to anyone.
AuthorHouse was fantastic to work with! This was my first time publishing a book, and they were so patient and kind while they guided me through the process. I couldn't believe how quickly I received my books! I can't wait to publish again with AuthorHouse!
