Delivery failure
I ordered a bonsai for a 40th birthday gift. I asked for a specific delivery date and asked if the gift could be left in the unlocked porch. I received the delivery time information, but DPD wouldn't leave the gift in the porch! As it was a Friday birthday I was extremely disappointed to learn that it won't now be delivered until the following Monday.
As this was a very very special birthday I am extremely upset at the failure to deliver.
I can't say what the bonsai will be like now that it hasn't been delivered, but it certainly is very disappointing and totally unsatisfactory especially as there is a 40th balloon and tag in the box and the birthday date has now been missed.
I can't say that I would recommend this service to anyone.

Dear Rita, That you for your order. I am so sorry that your gift was not delivered on Friday. We did dispatch it on the right day and we did include those delivery instructions. I tried to phone DPD over the weekend but they were closed. I have phoned again this morning and it will be delivered today. Rest assured the bonsai is well watered before delivery and will be absolutely fine in the box for over a week.
I am so sorry you feel the need to write such a negative review. This is totally a DPD driver error and completely beyond our control. 99% of orders are delivered as ordered but we do say 'We cannot guarantee' delivery at the checkout as sometimes there are breakdown or illness which causes delays. In this instance DPD could not advise as to why it was not delivered. Clearly you hold us responsible but I am unsure as to what we could have done to prevent the delay which is why we always say delivery is not guaranteed. I am so sorry that the special birthday was missed. Kind regards Sarah

Not impressed
I'm in the "not awfully impressed" camp.
I bought a "Premium Indoor Bonsai" for my wife for Christmas.
When the tree arrived, it looked great and was extremely well packaged.
I followed all instructions, ensuring it was watered as directed but almost immediately (we're talking a handful of days) the leaves turned yellow and began dropping. I wasn't too concerned as the instructions said this might happen.
We soldiered on for a few months but the tree got worse and worse, in spite of it being properly cared for, as per the instructions.
In March, I got in contact with Bonsai direct who asked me to send some photos.
"It looks like the tree has dried out at some point as it is the top that looks to be suffering the most. It could have dried out from lack of water (possibly volume rather than frequency of watering) or gotten too hot."
This was odd as we always made sure it was properly cared for.
Subsequently I was asked to cut the bark to see if it was green underneath. Some bits were, some not and I fed this back.
I then got further advice, damp soil, bright location etc, another six weeks until improvement but this didn't improve matters.
Obviously I had hoped for the sad specimen to be replaced, but that offer was clearly not forthcoming.

We take great pride in the quality of our bonsai trees, and we can assure you that the tree was in perfect health when it left our nursery. Our team carefully nurtures each bonsai, and it takes us many years to grow them to their optimal state.
After reviewing the photos you provided after three months of delivery, we noticed that the top of the bonsai showed dry and crispy leaves, while there were clearly many new bright green shoots on the lower branches. This indicates that at some point, the bonsai may have become too dry or too hot, which could have affected its overall health. We believe that the advice you received regarding maintaining a proper level of moisture and providing a bright location (but avoiding direct sunlight) was indeed helpful under the circumstances.
We understand your disappointment and frustration with the condition of the bonsai. However, we would like to emphasise that the bonsai was delivered in perfect condition, and it is not possible for us to be responsible for its well-being after three months, as we are not there personally to care for it.
Negative reviews are always disheartening for us, as we strive to provide the highest quality bonsai trees and exceptional customer service. We take each review seriously and use them as an opportunity to learn and improve. In this case, we are genuinely puzzled as to how you feel we are at fault, as it was delivered in perfect condition.
Your review seems a little unfair to us but nonetheless, we respect your perspective and are committed to resolving this matter to the best of our abilities.
I shall personally email you again and hopefully another 3 and a half months down the line we could have us updated photos as clearly in March the bonsai had loads of new shoots and at that point we were not overly concerned and felt the bonsai would make a full recovery with time.

It’s ok I suppose. Images on site suggest a better looking plant than the one I got. Seen these in supermarkets for half the price.
I think the lesson is. There isn’ta good cheap bonsai.

Tree was dead within 4 months.
My wife took delivery of a bonsai tree in September 2022 as a gift from our daughter. All the leaves fell off before Christmas and have not grown back. The tree was cared for as directed and never ever allowed to dry out. My wife has been nurturing plants for over 60 years and knows exactly what she is doing. We did email the company and they want us to provide photos but our daughter would be mortified and embarrassed if she knew what it looked like so we are undecided as to our next step. Most 5 star reviews seem to have been written shortly after delivery and praise the speed and appearance of the tree on arrival…….pointless reviews in my opinion. This review is honest and frank.

Wow! What can I say. Order placed 2pm Friday and delivered 12pm the following day. 3 days sooner.
I ordered the twin pack with plastic trays, I thought the trays may be a bit flimsy, but they are lovey sturdy trays.
The trees were so well packed, they hadn’t moved in the box, and as your write up says, “ As the discription is clearly stated on the box, the delivery drivers seem to take more care of them”. Which he did xx
I am now they proud owner of two beautiful bonsai trees.

Fantastic company with quality products and service
Firstly, was most impressed with the speed of delivery and the first-class packaging that protected the delicate product in transit. The company obviously took time and effort to ensure that the tree arrived in perfect condition which thankfully it did.
The actual tree '11-year-old Oriental Tea Tree' exceeded expectation in condition, quality, and overall aesthetics and in my view the product is proving excellent value for money.
Overall, more than pleased with my purchases and dealing with this company and I would therefore have no hesitation in recommending their services.

Bought a lovely little tree
Basically got what I ordered; a lovely Bonsai tree and a small care kit. It was a Valentine's gift for my wife and she loves it. The tree comes with plenty of advice on how to care for it. All delivered on the day I asked for it to arrive and the little message on the top of the box asking the driver to be careful because its "only a little bonsai tree" was a nice touch.

Excellent service from initial order to delivery. Arrived 2 days earlier than requested but was advised of this and wasn't an issue. Ordered 2 trees for friends and arrived in the same box. Wasn't aware of this and rang the company and what brilliant service Sarah gave. silly me didn't check but both trees there and in excellent condition. would highly recommend!

Dear Caroline, I am so sorry you feel the need to leave such a negative review. We have bespoke packaging and all bonsai trees are dispatched in perfect condition. Regrettably very occasionally the couriers are too heavy handed or drop the box. This is very rare and I am so sorry this has affected your gift. My colleague did email to explain this and replied back to your emails very promptly. The bonsai itself will not be affected by a broken pot and my colleague replied to you immediately stating that we had dispatched a replacement pot. It was 100% the fault of the courier service and I am sorry we have no control over the delivery service. This is extremely rare and a replacement pot was dispatched as soon as we were made aware that the pot had been broken. Unfortunately although 99% of deliveries arrive in the condition in which they were dispatched a courier service is not always 100% perfect. Rest assured this will not affect the bonsai tree itself.
