Knowledgable and Gave you the time needed

Spoke to Jayne over the online chat for quite a while today. She was very good at keeping me updated when she was looking in to my issues and provided me with helpful information to use when I attend my grievance meeting with my employers around failure to make reasonable adjustments. Didnt seem in a rush to get me off the chat and get to the next person as Ive had at other support services.

Live Chat Was Brilliant!

Initially, I was nervous about reaching out to the Equality Advisory Support Service, but I'm really glad I did. James, my advisor during the live chat, walked me through all the necessary steps. Now, I feel more confident than ever to manage my situation, and I truly appreciate his help!

I appreciate that he took the time to explain the various processes and the necessary actions I need to take. He also provided me with helpful resources so I could approach my situation deliberately, rather than being left to figure things out on my own.

I also liked that there are multiple ways to get in touch, including letters, live chat, phone calls, and even British Sign Language. Their convenient opening hours give me confidence that if I ever need support again, I can reach out here again!

A Chat With Jayne

Excellent, understanding support from Jayne

I spoke with Jayne at the Equality Advisory Support Service today, and I wanted to say how much I appreciated her calm, understanding, and professional approach. Even though my situation was quite complicated and didn’t fall neatly within their remit, she listened patiently, asked the right questions, and pointed me in the right direction for further help.

It’s rare these days to find someone who takes the time to really listen and offer clear, compassionate advice without rushing you. Jayne did exactly that.

Great support and advice

I spoke to Rory today about my employer refusing to make reasonable adjustments for my disability. He listened to all my rambling and was very compassionate. He advised me on the concrete steps I can take to resolve the issue, offering several alternatives and helped me pick one that will work best for my situation. Now I feel much better. I would recommend this service and especially Rory to anyone who is facing any kind of discrimination as they will go above and beyond to help.

Fantastic service 👏🏾 👌🏾

I have been going through some challenges recently, I was so overwhelmed and didn't know where to seek advice. I was advised by Debbie J, the minute I called EASS, I was in the call queue for less than a minute a beautiful angelic voice answered my call. I suddenly knew I was in good hands. I have Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia Dyscalculia and Irlen Syndrome. I also suffer from Anxiety and other mental health challenges. I first of all declared my neurodivergent conditions and Debbie J was so empathic with my hidden disabilities.

She was so attentive, clear and concise in the advice given. Anything I didn't understand or couldn't process, she will explain in a different manner.
Debbie J's Dyslexia friendly approach was exceptional and fantastic service. I was so happy for once, someone had taken time to explain complex situation and I walked away feeling so happy and complete.

Debbie J no words in the English dictionary can express my sincere gratitude. Thank you a million times. I am so grateful.
Keep up the excellent work you are doing, you've changed my life for the better through the advise I was given.

Once again thank you so much.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Citizens Advise for the referral for EASS, it was their referral that lead me to speak to Debbie J.

Thank you to such awesome organisations both CAB and EASS are incredible organisations helping people like me, who would not have had any idea of how to navigate my complex issues.

Poor telephone system

I phoned at 10:20Am on Saturday 25th October 2025, and after an excessively long recorded voice message saying what they can/can't do, another voice came on saying to stay on the line at the end and I can complete their survey to better the service next time.
THEN, a third voice saying "sorry there's no one available to help you right now, good bye". and then the call just disconnected.
What kind of telephone service doesnt have a call queuing system, during the opening hours? I expected to be added to a queue, and wait for someone to be available? ...failing that, I was waiting or the survey. So yeah, pet hate of mine is to be exposed to a long recording, and then just hung up on.

It appears that there may have been a glitch in the system at this time. We don't actually have a queueing system enabled as we only have a very small team of advisers available on a Saturday, so it's likely that customers would be left queueing for a long time. However, you would normally be directed to leave a voicemail and we would call back when there was availability to do so.

I apologise that this wasn't your experience. I will take this away to be investigated to ensure the issue is resolved. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

A successful outcome

During the summer of 2025 there was a shocking approach to a group of friends in my local library. People with disabilities were being excluded from a community event. I wrote to the EASS and received appropriate advice.
The only difficulty is, emails and messages via the online form seem to miss out some of your text, and may need to be clarified.

Detailed Feedback

Got in touch in relation to a very strange catch-22 based on conflict between our Assured Shorthold Tenancy and another legal contract. I ended up having Rory over the phone who was tremendously helpful; we went over every angle possible of the issue, Rory broke down the sections of the Equality Act that might apply, and while it seems that my issue is not covered, the service I've been provided is beyond excellent. I will have to seek further legal advice elsewhere, but thanks to Rory I can say I feel well-armed and well-versed on how to approach the issue, and where it does not apply. It's rare that I can say a service leaves me well-informed nowadays. EASS was a random signpost by Shelter, and I cannot emphasize how useful contacting them was.
