Opening an account in Germany
Opening a bank account in Germany as a foreign owner is challenging and the account opening process with Penta was made harder by not being able to amend any information once submitted. This needed to be done via email with customer services. However, the customer service team were great: very responsive and helpful in answering all queries. This was especially the case for Daniel, who was our designated Customer Relations Manager and provided an excellent service.

Stay away - misinformation
I've had a really good experience with Penta but unfortunatly the poor service I am receiving after 2 years is really dissapointing.
I am in the process of closing my business in Germany and unfortunatly my account was blocked because I had to pay the German Tax authority an outstanding amount before we can close it. I received this email from Petna on the 8th July that my account will be blocked and after 4 weeks Penta will be obliged to transfer any remaining balance in my account to the Tax authority.
I made the transfer and settled the full amount and received the confirmation from the authority within 17days(25th July) from receiving the notification. Well under 4 weeks. When I logged into my account, all the funds was gone without any notification. So I logged a support ticket.
The support agent assigned to my case is Maja and she has really not been helpfull at all. So now the Penta policy is that they will move your balance withint 1 week of an account that's blocked - and I have yet to receive this information. But what's the best part is I keep on asking Maja how we can resolve this and move forward to get my balance back but she simply does not answer my question. Apparently, Penta still need to updae their email notifcations to reflect the correct timelines but are penalising their customers without correct notifications.
I am still waiting to receive detail on how I will be able to get my funds back from the the Tax authority without any notification from Penta that this will be moved and as far as I am concerned, have acted as quick as possible and now really receiving the poorest service for following instructions.
A shame but I will not recommend them ever again.

The perfect online bank for small companies and startups
I turned to Penta in 2021 on a recommendation to help me start my company and I was not disappointed. The start-up package provided a lot of useful information and templates for me. Penta also took care of the notary for me to register the company. Everything was very quick and straightforward. Whenever I had questions for the support, I always had a competent answer or support at hand within a few hours or days.
After a few months in practical use, I can now say that the web interface and the app are easy to use. The MT940 exports for DATEV work without any problems, which saves trouble with the tax consultant.
The connection to lexofffice is also very handy.
I have never had any problems with my credit card, not even with amounts > €1,500 (I had heard such cases from other banks).
The fact that there are no branches doesn't bother me, I don't have to pay absolute extortionate fees for that. In today's modern world everything has to work online, here Penta is a very commendable example.
I refer everyone in my circle of acquaintances who is currently planning to start their own business to Penta. I would also open an account there again at any time.

With Penta, your money is not safe.
We submitted documents proving that our former employee is no longer authorized. We asked for the account to be blocked, but they returned to us exactly 16 hours later by e-mail and 12 thousand euros were stolen from our account.
Customer service says that a money recall can be made, solaris bank will charge a fee of 10 euros.
But they want the people who stole the money to send the money back, it's just hilarious :)
Penta website states that there is a 100 thousand euro money guarantee.

We can't withdraw our current money in our company account. We've been waiting for 32 days and still no response.
Solaris bank sent an e-mail stating that it terminated our account unilaterally as if we were guilty.
They sent a manual money transfer form, they said it will take 3 working days so you can move your money to another bank. 15 days have passed, no news, no reply to emails.
Penta is not a bank, just Solaris bank's email box getpenta.com

Great product, great service, great experience!
My experience with Penta has been excellent. I'm currently founding a new company and needed a bank account fast. Penta opened my account within 48 hours, exactly as stated on their website, and my contact with the customer support was fast and efficient, and they kept me up to date on my case which is very rare for any kind of banking product nowadays, especially in Germany.
What surprised me even more is the clear workflow during the account request that helped me to open an account so fast, it literally took a big chunk of burden away from me so I can actually focus on the remainder of my foundation activities.
Also, Penta supports connectivity with quite a few bookkeeping software which is a huge plus to me, and the pricing on their products is simple and fair.

Qonto takeover ahead
Correction of my prior review:
What a scam! Penta mimicked the friendly newcomer, just to be taken over by Qonto months later. Things will remain the same "for the time being".
For their business customers it means preparing for yet another big change, informing customers, vendors, partners. A lot of effort and money will be lost, and I feel I backed the wrong horse.

Abolute Top Bank.
Technisch läuft es einfach sauber und sogar ich(!) kriegt jetzt Belege-Verwaltung hin. Auch die Zusammenarbeit mit Mitarbeitern und Steuerberater (wenn der sich auf digitales einlässt), sowie DATEV Anbindung klappen super. Der Export klappt perfekt, sodass ich meine Auslagen flott in Excel exportieren kann und meinen Lieferanten zeigen kann.
2 Dinge sind schade, aber tun dem Gesamtpaket keinen Abbruch.
1. Es gab einen Fall, bei dem ich sehr oft nachfragen musste, weil mit einer Zahlung aus USA etwas nicht gepasst hatte. Das war teilweise Absender-Fehler (wegen ungenauem Empfänger), aber der Support hat doch recht lange gebraucht, das zu lösen. Ansonsten ist der Support mega, sogar telefonisch erreichbar und hilft gut und gern.
2. Als ich 2020 eingestiegen bin, gab es unglaublich schnelle Entwicklungsschritte - neue Features, Verbesserungen usw. Mittlerweile scheint das eher eingeschlafen zu sein. Es ist auf jeden Fall TOP nutzbar - aber Kleinigkeiten wie OCR Erkennung von Belegen, ApplePay, mehr eigene Kategorien usw. stehen schon sehr, sehr lange auf den Wunschlisten (die öffentlich sind!). Da dürfte mal wieder etwas kommen.
