I rented a unit with go store it which…

I rented a unit with go store it which they told me was going to be $159 upon my next payment due it was $336. I called them to ask why such high increase and because I spoke up about it they tried to negotiate down to $259 which is still quite expensive for a storage unit. I think they should have lawsuits against them with so many people complaining about this same issue.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. Save yourself the frustration. The door on our unit broke one weekend, wouldn’t close. ZERO humans available until Monday. Our stuff sat there open. Service line was worse than useless. Then 2 months in, they raised the rent from $91 to $157 then offered us their “best rate” of $124. so if you want your stuff to be insecure, have zero service, pay too much, and have to move it again to a competitor who can actually run their business, this is the right place for you.

Charges before agreed dates and ignore requests to move out

Re go store it walnut street — Charleston. SC. —

The move in was easy.
But no human exists to help with any issue. And their virtual assistants don’t work.
The fees go up sky high very quickly after you are moved in — but that is their business model and to be expected.
The main horrible issue is that they charge your credit cards before the agreed charge date — but if you have moved out they don’t refund you.
They make it impossible to notify for a move out. Not an option on your account.
So this is a scam in several ways.
If there is a better service you should try to find it.

This is no longer Chicago Northside…

This is no longer Chicago Northside storage. This is Go Store It. Do not use this company. They doubled my storage rent within 40 days of taking over the facility raiding the rent 2x w/o notice. They did not put a bathroom in on the rear side. The best thing about this location is the onsite staff. They are wonderful.

However, Customer Service and this company itself are terrible. They have huge fees and will put a lien on your belongings after 1 month late. It feels like entrapment and a total bait and switch. Nothing has justified them doubling the rents without making the facility any better. They blame it on market prices, but they have the ability to bring it down if you threatened to leave. They’re clearly autonomous over this. These are the same reviews that they have on yelp and trust pilot. They have 2.2 stars online for a reason. Do not trust them. They are horrible.

Scam company

Do not trust them! I’ve only been here for 2 months and not only is customer service an absolute mess, they’re changing my rent from $33 to $88 in March. I’ll be looking for another unit elsewhere this is an absolute ridiculous bait & switch. It should be illegal. I won’t recommend to anyone anywhere.

Hard Pass On This Storage Facility in Rock Hill, SC

It was easy to secure a storage unit online. Access to the entrance of the facility can be very difficult. Only one way in or out. Condition of the unit is marginal, but at the time I had already secured the unit prior to moving south. I also checked all pricing. This units pricing was inline with other facilities but looked clean and was closer to my location than the others. The condition of the door latch also not the greatest. Obvious that locks had been cut off many times. Not at all easy to maneuver around within the facility, especially if someone else is in their unit on the main thoroughfare. Moved in November 2025. Rent is due on the 23rd of the month but they take it from my account on the 11th each month.

Just received notice today, January 24th, 2026, that my monthly rent is more than doubling with my February payment : "We are sending this notice to inform you that your rental rate on unit XXXX is increasing from $59.00 to $121.00. This letter serves as your thirty (30) day notice for the rate change. Your rent payment due on 2/23/2026 will reflect the new rate.

Your business is important to us. Due to operational costs associated with providing you the best possible self-storage experience, we are instituting the minimum rate increase needed to meet the financial demands of our storage facility.

We are excited to utilize this opportunity to make further improvements to the property and to your overall experience with us. We appreciate you and your business, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with you."

Would love to know how they can justify a 105% increase.

Not recommended. Wish I had read all of the reviews at the different sites before deciding on this one. The fast rate increases have been experienced by others as well. I did respond to their email with no answer as of yet.

RENT INCREASED FROM $112 TO $297 IN 2 MONTHS !! SCAMMERS

I rented a storage unit on 11/09/2025 and within 2 months, after finally cleaning out the unit that was handed over to us dirty and full of cobwebs and bugs and still without a working light, they sent me an email 01/09/2026 that is only 2 months after we finally paid to rent truck after truck, paid their admin fees only to get an email saying that the rent from $112 a month is changing to $297 ?!!!! this is atrocious and unethical. I checked the website and they are still renting new clients for $111 a month specials with plenty of available units. Yet somehow they are saying there is higher demand for the units so hence the price increase !!!! stay away from these scammers. I now have to rent another truck and remove all my stuff after only 2 months of renting. I wanted a long term rental space and rented a unit from ample storage for 3 years without a change in rental fees. I only moved my stuff over because I moved into the zip code. Had I known that they were going to pull this stunt of increasing my rent threefold in 2 months I WOULD HAVE NEVER RENTED from here.

Outright Negligence

Outright Negligence, Bait-and-Switch, and Zero Accountability

This is hands-down one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.

I rented a storage unit at Go Store It Self Storage (20 Garris Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403) and was assigned a 3rd-floor unit. When I arrived to move in, the elevator was completely broken. The on-site manager openly admitted they could not fix it, and multiple tenants confirmed the elevator had been out of service for days — meaning the company knowingly rented upper-floor units that were effectively unusable.

That’s not an inconvenience — it’s deceptive and irresponsible.

I contacted corporate customer service expecting a basic level of professionalism. Instead, I was met with indifference and refusal. There was a first-floor unit available, yet they refused to move me as a courtesy, despite the fact that THEIR facility was not functioning as advertised.

Their solution? Charge me an additional $30 per month to access a usable unit. In other words, I was forced to pay extra for their failure. That is a textbook bait-and-switch.

This company took my money while providing a non-functional facility, showed zero accountability, and pushed the cost of their neglect onto the customer. Renting a 3rd-floor unit without a working elevator is unacceptable and borderline fraudulent.

If you’re considering this location, be warned: equipment may not work, management won’t help, and you’ll be expected to pay more just to get what you already paid for. Avoid this place unless you enjoy frustration, wasted time, and being taken advantage of.

Deceptive

I see all the upset folks about Go Store It raising their monthly rents shortly after they move all their stuff in, like within a couple of months. I see complaints about prices doubling or more. This is true, however their price for a 10x15, which I rented was $30 a month for a large, clean, new unit in a new secure facility. This of course is not even feasible today so I new it was not the actual price, and being month to month they had the right to increase it with a notice. So I finally after much research and a little help from a representative found the actual pricing for all the size units at the location, and mine was $125, which was more in line with storage around the country of this quality. I only needed a spot for 60 days so I took it, and I did get a notice like everyone else with the increase, but it's not really an increase they are just charging you their normal rates but don't tell you upfront what the rates are and they are hard to find unless you know someone. It is deceptive on the surface and the lease mentions nothing about it. However just with some common sense one cant expect to pay these low rates for these big faculties. It clearly isn't right, but just a little insight before you sign up would go a long way, so I would just say do a little research research because whatever rate you start with will at minimum double, its just a matter of when.

Rent quadrupled over 2 years

Very unhappy. I began renting in April of 2024 at the rate of $83/ month. By September 1 the rate had increased to $125. I expected it to increase but was surprised by the more than $40 increase. But the location was convenient, so it didn't make sense to go up the road for less money. The rate increased again in June of 2025, this time to $163. So almost double what I paid the year before without any real improvements. So, imagine my shock when the rate AGAIN increased in November, this time to $326. More than 4 times the original amount. I had already planned to relocate to another facility, but this ridiculous increase spurred me into immediate action. The claim that there were increases in costs doesn't wash with me as this location has declined dramatically since I moved in. Trash everywhere, dirty floors, and only a virtual assistant on site. I would never recommend GoStoreIt-Fort Mill but I gave 2 stars for the warehouse location and the location of my 10 x 15 unit.

I wish I could give zero stars!! These people are really scammers... See they lure you in with a very nice move-in special and then month 2 they hit you with an enormous rate increase!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! IM MOVING ASAP! OUTRAGEOUS RATE INCREASE, GATE ALWAYS OPEN, NEVER CAN REACH ANYONE ON THE PHONE, NO ONE IS "EVER' IN THE OFFICE. WHEN GATE IS CLOSED THEY LOCK YOU IN AT 10PM .. WE HAD TO CALL THE POLICE.

The Northside Storage Lakeview location…

The Northside Storage Lakeview location has always been my favorite when moving back from out of state. Its clean, secure,friendly and helpful- Especially their Manager Diane. She's been there a long time and knows the place like a book and runs it efficiently and smoothly. Never had a problem there , especially because of Diane the most helpful manager ever and a delight to encounter. Thank you for all your help Ms. Diane!

MOVE OUT......

THIS NEW MANAGEMENT COMPANY IS FULL OF IT!!!!! I WILL NEVER REFER THEM NOR RENT FROM THEM AGAIN. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT THE MONEY NOT THEIR CUSTOMERS. FIRST, THERE'S A THOUSAND NUMBERS TO CALL FOR ONE FACILITY. THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL! WHEN THEY TOOK OVER, I RECEIVED AN EMAIL OF MY NEXT BILL, (LIKE I USUALLY DO). THEY TOOK OUT OF MY BANK ACCOUNT MORE MONEY THAN WHAT THE EMAIL STATED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE EXTRA WITHDRAW WAS FOR INSURANCE. THIS WAS NOT MENTIONED IN THE EMAIL. THE THING IS, I HAVE RENTERS INSURANCE AND COULD HAVE USED IT TOWARDS THE BILL IF I HAD BEEN ASKED FIRST. NEXT, I'M PLANNING TO MOVE OUT. I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE OUT ON 9/13/25, AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD PRORATE THE SEPTEMBER BILL. "NO", I WAS TOLD, "THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FULL MONTH"; HOWEVER, "I COULD STILL MOVE OUT ON 9/13"???? WHAT PERSON IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IS GOING TO PAY FOR A WHOLE MONTH WHEN MOVING OUT IN TE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH? THEY NEED MONEY THAT BAD TO WHERE THEY COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE A CUSTOMER WHO'S BEEN THERE 7 MONTHS. THEY DO NT VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS ONLY MONEY!!!!! RUN............

Go store it in Bradenton sucks ass! They went from $82 to $125 in two months. Mind you, you're required to buy insurance from them that does not reflect this fee. There's never anyone there for help and they lock up the carts.

There is noone to help with questions about the major price hike. Each customer manager here little Rock gives you three different prices and they won't provide you with a contract showing you billing. I was with Snapbox then they took over and my unit price jump up $100.00 without notification

Just received my 40% increase notice in…

Just received my 40% increase notice in the mail. Spoke to two different agents, one local, one corporate, who were both lovely and patient despite my irritated tone. They both offered a 'discount' which was still an increase, and the first month after the increase would still be at the 40% inflated rent, then adjusted to the 'discounted' price, with no promise of being able to keep the adjusted rate moving forward. 25-30% of units are vacant, maybe because they run a scam rate and bait and switch to a higher rate once you've signed a contract. Deceptive business practices, horrible facilities management. One elevator broken since moving in, the other has an expired inspection (2 years expired) and disintegrating flooring. No easy way to email or call corporate headquarters from their website, had to specifically search for corporate contact info. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

This is the most unprofessional company…

This is the most unprofessional company I have ever encountered. First thing was it asked me on the online application as to what day I wanted to move in and I have given them the date , but I received a message stating that if I did not pay for the reservation in 3 days that they would not be able to honor my reservation. Well in paying for it within those 3 days they turn around and said that the day I paid for the unit is the day I would have to make a payment every month. When I saw that I tried several different numbers to try to contact someone and could not get a hold of anyone. They do not have a 800 number to be able to rectify the situation. I called different numbers from the website that were from other states and still could not get a hold of someone. Absolutely ridiculous. They practically made $35 off me because of the Admin fee that was less than 24 hours of paying for the rented unit , when they did not do anything. I would tell anyone not to rent from them because if you ever run into a problem you would not be able to talk to someone to resolve any issues that you may have . I have never dealt with a company that you could not get a hold of anyone. Don’t waste your money, time , and energy. Completely unprofessional. The $35 Admin Fee for doing nothing within 24hours of trying to get a hold of someone did it for me to cancel the storage unit I was trying to rent out.

100% do not offer safe or secure storage!

I had been a customer with go store it (the facility on Bishop Rd in Richmond, Virginia) for over a year with no problems and then in the middle of a move to a new apartment someone broke into my unit and cleared it completely out! Management informed me that there was no insurance on my unit which was news to me as I was under the impression that I had insurance on my unit ever since I for at moved into it. Also In that massive storage facility there was only 1 security camera on each floor and that was pointed at the elevators so there was no footage at the time (due to me not knowing when the break in had occurred) that helped us and the site manager and the officer came to the conclusion I was lying and I was charged with filing a false report. Later I found out who had done it and that some of my things were transferred to another unit on the same floor. Most of the valuables that had been stored in my storage unit had been stolen And due to the officer not replying to me after repeated attempts to contact her I want some of my personal belongings being sold on Facebook market and could do nothing about it (well legally and I wanted to handle it the right way) and the things still on site has been all but destroyed. Needless to say they are full of shit when they say they have the premises secured with state of the art cameras. If they did we would have seen right away my unit being cut into and emptied out. Instead, I had to face the in dignity of going to a jail and being processed then having to pay out-of-pocket for a lawyer to go defend myself and to add insult to injury i Received a letter from ghost storage about four days after I was in court dealing with this issue that stated basically that they were not responsible for any of my personal items that were stored at one of their facilities. Now almost $1000 later and basically half of my life stolen I tell you these go store it places don’t give a shit about the security of your items and they don’t have the proper cameras on site they claim to. Find another business to take your storage to!!
