Waited 2 hours when told to expect 15-20 mins. Even after chasing for multiple updates.
They charged me £1400 for an emergency…
They charged me £1400 for an emergency lock opening!! I had no choice to pay as I was catching a flight. These are not humans. Even animals have more sympathy and feelings. Horrendous.
An absolute rip off
An absolute rip off, I was charged 234.00p and the guy was here for less than 5 minutes and all he did was rip out a strip of plastic so the door could close more easily? Avoid this lot like the plague. I will report them to the BBC's rip off Britain!👎☹️💩
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Avoid Avoid Avoid . Rip off company that will overcharge you. They add extras on and then want to charge Vat on top. They should be investigated they are crooks. Use a different company. They wanted £240 plus vat for a five minute Job and a £20 part. Extortionate.

My young daughter locked herself out and called for a quote
Was told a range £ and that they could come in 20 minutes. No mention was made of additional call out charges nor that VAT was excluded. The job was done efficiently but charges were astronomical. £214 for 5 minute job. Almost £100 more than was quoted by the office. I complained to the office but they weren’t interested. With other review comments re menacing response from the owner I will not pursue further. They took advantage of a young vulnerable girl. Looks like they make a regular habit of this strong arm over charging on the doorstep .
Avoid this company at all costs!
I wonder why this company hasn’t been investigated by trading standards. It uses coercion tactics to extort money from clients in vulnerable situations and is quite rude and unprofessional in dealing with clients.
We engaged this company on the basis of a 15 – 20 minute wait as we had a tenant and her daughter stranded outside their flat.
When we phoned after this time, we were told the technician was only minutes away. The tenant was then told directly by the technician that he was actually 25minutes away. After that time had passed, she was then told another 25 minutes. I tried to phone the controller but my number was blocked. My wife phoned only to have the phoned slammed down.
The wait was actually 3 hours in total. If we had been told the truth in the first place we could have gone to another locksmith.
The tenant told me that the technician was quite rude on the phone and very unprofessional in his approach to the work. This approach was more brute force and ignorance rather than the finesse of a proper locksmith and the door was badly damaged. The company quoted well over £200 for a job that was to take 10 minutes in total. A complete rip off!
Total scammers
Total scammers, these people have a genuine website with a polit British person who answers the phone and gives you a great price. Then two dodgy blokes turn up and tell the price is hundreds of pounds more expensive. When you refuse as the price is high, they say “ok no problem it’s £49 cancellation charge”. When you refuse this they become aggressive and threaten to call the police. Avoid these scammers at all costs!!!!
Great service
Great service. Really understanding even when I had to cancel a job. Will use when needed next
Didn’t turn up for 4 booked visits then…
Didn’t turn up for 4 booked visits then botched the job so the door handle doesn’t turn properly and the strike plate had to be removed
I was shocked at the negative reviews…
I was shocked at the negative reviews when coming to leave one of my own. I found the locksmith skilled, friendly and efficient! I had no objections about the cost of an emergency callout of a skilled tradesman and all of my questions about price were answered and confirmed with me before work began. I will be recommending this company
DO NOT GIVE THESE SCAMMERS YOUR MONEY
DO NOT GIVE THESE SCAMMERS YOUR MONEY, my daughter got locked out of her house with my grandson in the car, she called me for help, im a mechanic by trade and have knowledge of pvc doors but couldn't open the door, it was 10pm and had no choice but to call a lock smith, well what we thought with there advert that looks professional, I was told they would try the key and a few tricks a locksmith uses, the fee would be around £45, the guy turned up in his car with a bag of tools in the back, I managed to take a picture of the car and registration and luckily a video of the guy destroying the front door, damaged both door handles, drilled a big hole through the door, then still not been able to gain access used a pry bar to open the door, the door and frame is damaged but my daughter was relieved she could enter her property with her young son and get to her pet dog, the guy had the door in bits on the floor, then said the bill would be £660 if she wanted the door repaired so she could shut and lock it, none of us knew what to do including myself so late at night, he then took card payment and said it hadn't gone through, my daughter checked her bank because he wanted her to make the transaction twice but the payment had gone through, the door and frame will have to be replaced as they have caused more damage than I could have caused kicking the door open, please be warned that this company will scam you and leave you in a position that you cant get out of, with the recorded phone call we made in the beginning, the pictures of the vehicle and video of the guy who represented the company causing damage we have passed the information over to the police, we were told they took money under false pretense, they gave a random invoice thats not worth the paper its printed on but the police said the other evidence is enough for them to follow up, PLEASE PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO RESEARCH A PROFESSIONAL COMPANY, I understand in the moment of panic this will be the last thing on your mind as it was ours, I could have got the parts needed from screwfix for £58.16 but would have been the next morning, it will now cost around £800 for a new door.
Scummy scammers
Turn up, it's £45 call out, £195 for the visit and costs on top. I was scammed out of £424
I wish I'd read trust pilot first. Scummy scammers
Ridiculously overpriced
Ridiculously overpriced! I paid £560 when I expected around £200-£300. A complete abuse of a person's vulnerabilty. DO NOT USE. A Romanian locksmith who tried to convince me the price was fair - IT WAS NOT but I had no choice but to pay. AVOID THIS COMPANY, IT IS A SCAM! Also, it is not possible to contact the company on the phone number on the invoice (0330 058 2995) - it goes to a voice message advising to email but no email address or other contact information given - evidence of an unethical and untrustworthy company. The new lock was charged at £159 (Versa) but it costs £20 from a DIY store!
Avoid!
Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Absolute rip-off! Like most other reviewers I panicked in the moment and just picked first locksmith off the top of Google when I locked myself out. Said no call-out but then was told £50 by the guy who came plus labour etc. Pressurised me to sign the clipboard with the costs listed and he initially said would need to drill the door but then was able to open in seconds with a piece of card! Those seconds cost over £200!! I understand emergency call outs don't come cheap but this sort of money for a few seconds is a complete scam!!!!
Overcharged big time!
On the plus side, the locksmith came out the same day I phoned with a problem associated with my front door chubb lock which was beginning to jam on occasions.
He rang to advise he was 15 minutes away and again to ask for directions nearer the house. Courteous and polite.
He had a quick look at the problem and initially thought he could lubricate the lock and jiggle it a bit to solve the issue.
The bad news is he then told me how much it would cost. The call out fee was £65 and I was also going to be charged £180 for labour which I felt was very high, but I also felt I was in a bit too deep now to pull out without incurring at least the call out fee, and then I would still have a faulty lock.
I agreed to him going ahead, and then he found he couldn't fix the existing lock, but would need to fit a replacement at a cost of a further £95 for parts. I queried whether VAT would need to be added at this stage as the total was already really substantial, and may well have said no to further work if the answer had been yes, but he told me they don't charge VAT.
He fitted the new lock and then spent about 45 minutes trying to get it to work with the accompanying keys. Eventually it seemed to be working, although still very stiff.
I have arthritic hands and can only just manage to get the new lock to work, all for the extortionate price of £345.
I so wish I had looked at the trust pilot reviews first. But I thought I was booking a local firm and having looked at a few other online it seemed fine. I'm just really angry with myself for being so gullible and not feeling confident enough to send the locksmith away as soon as he told me the price.
Lesson for the future, arrange this sort of repair when my husband is around, but this shouldn't be necessary and angers me further!
Extremely over priced
Extremely over priced! Not told of charges before arriving on including £59 call out fee! Not given quote before job completed! AVOID
Avoid
Avoid - awful con artists and intimidating
Paid £300 for a lock replacement that wasn’t needed and left my door worse than before. The lock doesn’t retract properly, the strike plate was removed, and they refused to come back despite me calling multiple times. An independent tradesperson confirmed the issue is door alignment and hinges, not the lock. Misleading, poor workmanship, and unprofessional service.
Pressured into
Paying more than quote and reported straight away dissatisfaction that the door was worse but refusing to even look at it
Unclear pricing and extremely expensive.
I should have read reviews first.
Over the phone I was informed of the £49 call out fee that would cover ‘8 out of 10 Yale locks don’t need to be drilled out’
Was not then told any quote on the phone if the lock needed to be drilled.
Only upon arrival of the technician was I informed the work would be £286 + VAT
So I was already going to be out money as I agreed to the call out charge which was also subject to VAT which I was not made aware of.
Totalling £50 Call-out, £120 to drill out the hole, £66 for the new lock and ontop of that £50 of labour all plus vat totalling to £343.20. Where other companies had quoted £125.
I cannot recommend this company and hope people aren’t as stupid as me to fall for this.
A factual account of dealing with GRD Locksmiths.
This company is seriously to be avoided. Sawing through an old lock taking around 1 minute and charging £85.85 and putting in a new lock and charging £86.90 for it when they are available on-line for £20 is an utter disgrace.
These amounts are in addition to the "standard call out fee" of £49 gives a total of £220.90. I really should have checked this totally dishonest company before calling them. I can only hope that other potential customers check them before being, what our American friends call "A TOTAL RIP OFF".
