A word of caution for anyone considering overseas holiday home insurance through Intasure/Gallagher Bassett.

After nearly 20 years as loyal customers, our experience following severe storm damage to our property in Spain this winter has been deeply disappointing.

What we expected was support, clarity, and practical help. What we encountered instead was delay, contradiction, process over judgment, and a level of complexity that left two nearly 70-year-olds effectively trying to coordinate and carry out repairs ourselves.

The irony is that insurers are tested not when you pay the premium — but when you actually need them.

We appreciate that all companies have procedures and governance. But somewhere along the line, common sense, customer care, and proportionality seem to have left the building.

We are now escalating the matter formally.

If you own a holiday property abroad, do your homework very carefully before choosing an insurer. The real product is not the policy document. It is the quality of support you receive when things go wrong.

I have been with intasure since pre 2010. Always knowing they were a somewhat higher price, i was happy because they satisfied my needs. This year, however, dreading as always the expensive premium, they declined to insure my house in France giving no reason whatsoever. i have never even made a claim. I rang another insurer who said they'd had a large number of enquiries from your customers. Intasure will say it was the insurer not them that declined, when surely as my broker it is their job to find an alternative provider. Which, is what i was prepared to pay them for all these years. Luckily, i have now found an insurer in Ernee france that speak english who insured the property with no silliness for much less than what i was quoted anyway.

I used this company because they had all the tools I needed in getting a insurance policy for my second home. I was dealt with by one of the staff members who talked me through every detail of the policy that I needed, this was quite a requirement and I required assistance in different parts of the policy. I was very impressed with the member of staff who was extremely helpful, polite and informative . Would have no hesitation in recommending this company for your insurance's, I will defiantly use this company for any insurance needs.

Without doubt, a truly dishonest insurer, who, like many do not want to pay a legitimate claim.
I have paid my insurance with these people for many years, and made a claim for £2,500.00, for storm damage to the property, first time. It is notable this year, there has been unusual heavy rainfall, flooding, in Italy, which damaged the property.
I contacted my local Italian builder, who I know quite well, and asked him to submit a fair, honest, and as cost effect - cheap as is possible. He did.
So this insurer lost adjustor, came out with all sorts of counter arguments, and a bombastic denial of what happened. They made a ridiculous assessment at just £1,053.00, after deduction of my £250.00, insurance excess.
So after being bullied, by these people, I had to accept it, but will still pay the builder the total £2,500.00. I cant take a chance of increased damage to the property, as the winter progresses.
Needless to say, wont be renewing my insurance with this lot in 2026.

I spoke to a very lovely person called Julie and she was wonderfully understanding, she guided me through the whole renewal process with ease, also I had to change the year of construction of my house as the computer system there end had been changed so a couple of things needed changing. Julie did all of this with great care and attention. thank you.

For some reason, it took some time to get hold of the right contact, but once that hurdle was over, it was very easy to ask questions and finalise an insurance quote. Ella was to the point and helped us get house insurance for a rental property while abroad...for whatever reason, many other insurance companies only offer house insurance cover to landlords living within the UK.

I received absolutely outstanding customer service today from Lydia Cathersides. She was professional in every respect as well as being incredibly friendly. It is rare these days to be on the receiving end of such good service and it made the chore of renewing my insurance a really pleasant experience. Thank you Lydia!

Ich war von 2018 bis 2025 Kunde bei Intasure und anfangs sehr zufrieden. Die Konditionen waren attraktiv, die Beratung freundlich – man fühlte sich gut aufgehoben.

Doch als es 2025 zu einem kleinen Schaden (ca. 2.300 €) kam, zeigte sich ein ganz anderes Bild: Eine Nachbarwand war undicht, bei Starkregen kam es zu einem Wassereintritt. Intasure schickte zwar eine Gutachterin, aber danach passierte wochenlang gar nichts. Erst nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen erhielt ich eine halbherzige Stellungnahme: Es handele sich angeblich um einen Baufehler, und ich solle doch mein Bauunternehmen verklagen.

So eine unprofessionelle Antwort habe ich selten erlebt. Nach vielen Jahren Kundentreue war das sehr enttäuschend.

Ich bin inzwischen mit meinem Haus auf Mallorca bei der AXA – gute Preise, Ansprechpartner vor Ort, seriöses Auftreten.

Mein Fazit:
Intasure? Nein danke!

I asked Intasure for a quotation as my Italian building/contents insurance was up for renewal. Worse cover and three times as much from Intasure.

Not credible and not competitive.

The second claim I have had to make under my holiday home policy through Intasure and on both occasions their service has been outstanding. Helpful polite staff, super fast sending out of claim form, cover confirmed and claim paid within days of submission of claim form and invoice for work done. Highly recommend.

I have been a customer of intasure for over 15 years insuring our italian holiday home. Over the last several years, premiums have been increasing which is not unexpected. Our 2025 premiums went up 100% . Compared to our 2023 premiums, the price went up 300%. I recognise that this is the underwriters decision (lloyds) however, in the past there was always a negotiation/discussion which would happen. This year there was no explanation or willingness to discuss. I will not renew the policy.
