An ABSOLUTE nightmare - I keep trying to come up with solutions and they are SO rigid I am already in a state where I dread to open the email because I know it's just another BS message from them telling me they cannot do this that and the other! AVOID at all costs!!!
These guys seriously ruined our trip to Kyoto. Cancelled the baggage collection for our group the night before morning collection making us to spent overall 5+ hours delivering it personaly in Tokyo, handing over 18+ pcs of luggage one by one and then collecting it in Kyoto. They akso damaged one of them. Ridiculous. One star is still too much.
★☆☆☆☆ — Damaged my luggage, then spent a month making sure I couldn't do anything about it
Yamato Transport damaged my suitcase during transport in Japan. What followed was one of the most deliberately frustrating customer service experiences I have ever had to endure.
For weeks after the damage was reported, we received no updates whatsoever — only after repeatedly chasing them did they bother to respond. Their idea of "compensation" for a damaged suitcase? 5,000 yen. That's roughly €30. For a suitcase they broke.
But the real insult came when I asked for both the compensation and an official Cargo Accident Report for my Dutch travel insurer — a completely standard and reasonable request. Yamato flatly refused: their policy is to offer either the money or the report, never both. There is no logical or legal justification for this. It reads as a deliberate policy designed to obstruct customers from pursuing insurance claims.
After nearly a month of back-and-forth, repeated follow-ups, and eventually having to write "Can we please get this?" like a parent begging a child to do their homework, they finally sent the report. Something that could have been provided on day one.
To summarise: they damaged my property, stalled for a month, offered an insulting amount of compensation, and operate a policy that appears specifically designed to prevent customers from exercising their rights. Do not trust Yamato Transport with anything you actually care about.
I am extremely disappointed with the service I received. My Roncato suitcase arrived open because the zipper had been broken by the transporter, and my clothes fell out and were returned to me dirty. My scale was also damaged during transport and no longer works.
Despite the clear evidence of the damage, I was offered only 3,000 yen, which does not even cover the cost of repairing the zipper. This level of compensation is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of responsibility toward customers.
Yamato Transport damaged my suitcase during delivery: a broken wheel that makes it effectively unusable.
Their response was to offer 6,390 yen (~€40) based on a “depreciation formula” and a supposed “standard repair cost.” In reality, that amount does not cover repair or replacement. The result: the suitcase is essentially trash, and the customer is left to deal with the problem mid-trip.
What’s most concerning is not the damage, but the approach: internal policies that minimize the real impact, presented as a “generous exception.”
I accepted only to avoid wasting more time. I would not recommend this service if you value your belongings or expect proportional accountability.
Looked up how to send my luggage to a convenience store since there didn't seem to be another option. Checked if the store I wanted to send my suitcase to accepted luggage – the website said they did and so did the store clerk when I called to confirm. Yet somehow I get a call by Yamato the next day telling me my bag couldn't be delivered to that location and that they'd instead return it to the store I sent it from. Awful. If you only have to send your things to the airport, by all means, use them – but not for anything else.
The worst customer service ever. To be completely honest, even 1 star to give them is too much. We used them to transport 2 suitcases from Tokyo to Kyoto in the end of July 2025. One of the hardcase suitcases was completely smashed in from one corner, and was missing a wheel. Second suitcase was in even worse condition, with missing and broken items inside. We submitted a claim, and not did they refused to pay more than 10000 yen per suitcase... Claiming us that this is the maximum claimable amount allowed, even after we showed them their own rules which state otherwise. They still not have yet to transfer that lousy compensation more than almost 4 months later, producing only stupid and unrealistic excuses, why the transfer is delayed.
I used Yamato Transport Ta-Q-Bin serviced on 3rd October 2025 from Yokohama to Kyoto. The luggage that i sent was soaked with water. It is a hardshell case luggage, yet inside was soaked with water. It shows that they did not handle it prpperly. I submitted my complain to them and they only said this is natural disaster and could not being covered by Yamato. Yet when i checked in their website. They claim that they are liable for soaked luggage upto ¥300,000 per parcel. Not they only want to return the ¥3,060 delivery charge. What a big company on addressing complain without proper solution as they claim in their website.
Yamato never delivers on time. Been living in Japan for 23 years and whenever a package stated that they will have yamato as their courier service I really braced myself for not receiving the said package on time. No matter how clearly you state what time and date you needed or wanted it to arrive that will NEVER happen. And when it does you just have to thank your lucky star.
Moving to Japan and both my partner and I have emailed the company to receive a quote. No response, so I emailed again a week later. Then again a week later. We also filled the inquiry form on their website, which was also ignored. That was three months ago and still no response. If you can't do something as simple as reply to an inquiry, how can you run a company?
I know for sure now that once when we are in Japan, we will avoid shops that use yamato shipping.
One of the best transport companies in the world. A cute black cat to safely deliver your goods. Thank you!
They break your luggage, not offer to replace it, say they will wrap it before takin your plane. Then when you arrive at the airport, you discover your luggage with tape on it with no wrapping. Worst service ever.
This service had a very negative impact on our trip to Japan. We used it to deliver our luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto. It was delivered on time, but one of our luggage was very damaged. The outer shell was broken and there were holes in it.
The process of reporting this was not easy and required the date of the flight back to our country (which was later used against us).
The first agreement was really inadequate. They claimed that it could be "fixed" in Japan, but we really doubted it. After an exchange of correspondence (quite long, since they have to forward emails to another department), we agreed to a certain amount of money.
The worst part was that we received the last message that they could not transfer the money to us because we had already left Japan.
In addition, after we landed in our country (just this one), the suitcase was further damaged, which we believe was also caused by the Yamato courier's earlier damage. The suitcase is no longer usable.
An intern at Yamato made a website 1990 which they are very proud of. Do you want redelivery because they refuse the use the delivery package locker? Just try to decode the encrypted tracking number.
But it's a button away for delivery right?
Sure after you entered all info about yourself, using their selection tree. All with Google translate on.
But why not call the auto delivery service? The phone number is out of order.
I guess I can use a QR for easy redelivery? Yeah there a QR, that gives an error.
I also know from first hand experience how Yamato handles packages in their sorting center and it isn't pretty. Don't use yamato if you care about your customers or the content of the packages arriving in one piece.
extremely disappointed. i specifically said I need my lugage at the airport at 3 pm in order to take my meeting from the lounge. arrived at haneda, they tell me my luggage will be present at 8pm. so because of their service i can not attend my board meeting.
when you comit to a time delivery you have to keep it.
never again
I had a package in the Toshima ward of Tokyo get to Narita Airport before being handed off to UPS in 18 hours
