Exactly the same happened to us. Nothing more to add.

The samples arrived poorly packaged, so the envelope split. It finally arrived in a Royal Mail bag, but was too late by then. We’d had to choose something else in the meantime. Not impressed.

I ordered the carpet I needed at a local supplier of your carpets and it was at the shop within three days. Brilliant service.

Measuring day. Pleasant man, polite, chatty and informative

requested a sample. It arrived the next day.

We bought a Penthouse Pentwist 40oz carpet from ‘Best of Flooring’ in Bramley. This was an expensive high quality wool carpet for our living room. It was fitted in March last year (2024) by Best of Flooring and we have no problem with the fitting which was carried out professionally and by friendly fitters who also helped remove an old settee from the room and took the old carpet away at no extra cost.
Our concern is with the carpet itself. From the very outset each time it was vacuumed (at a low setting) a considerable amount of wool was picked up (we only wear slippers in this room and do not allow outside shoes so the amount of pick up other than this wool is minimum). Initially, for the first few weeks, around 7g of wool was being picked up each time we vacuumed. We queried this with Best of Flooring and were assured this was quite normal for a wool carpet and the amount would reduce quickly with time. Best of Flooring also contacted the carpet manufacturer and were assured this was perfectly normal and would indeed reduce with time. Unfortunately, this is not the case and almost a year later around 4 to 5g of wool is still being picked up at each vacuuming session. Taking into account the exposed area of the carpet (around 13.8 square metres) this amounts to a loss of around 0.3-0.4g per square metre at each vacuuming. This amount of continuing loss leads us to believe that the lifetime of this expensive carpet will be considerably reduced (over 10 years and vacuuming once per week this loss would amount to around 2.0 to 2.5kg loss from the exposed carpet).
We cannot believe that this is normal. We have had wool carpets in the past and there has never been this amount of loss over such a long period of time. In fact, the loss from this carpet is more that the total loss from all the rest of the carpets in the house (hall, dining room, study, landing, 4 bedrooms). Best of Flooring contacted the manufacturer again and were told that an inspection could be arranged to examine the carpet, but if the inspector said the loss was normal we would have to pay a fee of £73.00. We said that this was unacceptable but noted that if the manufacturer could provide us with a written statement to confirm that this continuing loss was normal we would drop our complaint.
There has been no such assurance from the manufacturer and therefore we feel that there is no alternative but to publish this review and would therefore not recommend this company.

Hello there, as a carpet fitter I am quite a fan of your products but not a fan of the sample service on this occasion as my order went on the 29th of January and still nothing has arrived. I have since sourced the sample book directly from one of the retailers I fit for and will be taking it to site in my own time tomorrow. Fortunately, I’m working less than a mile away from the address the samples were due to go to.

We have had exactly the same experience as the lady Vanessa the only difference our carpet supplier hasn’t replaced ours, we purchased a Crofter carpet hall stairs and landing December 23 just over 12 months ago the flattening on stairs started after a week shading on landing looks like train lines it all looks worn and tired.Penthouse sent mr inspector in march found know manufacturing faults so said they couldn’t help anymore unless we paid for another inspection,I hate this carpet with a passion having lived at the property over 50 years we have had various carpets but never one like this can’t wait to get rid I wouldn’t recommend penthouse most of there good reviews are about samples!!!

Ordered a sample, the system was quick and easy to use and the sample came within a few days.

We have now seen a larger sample in store and we are now considering purchasing the carpet.
