I had a complex sale involving cladding remediation, the Building Safety Act 2022, and much more. I tried local solicitors who turned down the work as being too complicated, beyond their PI insurance, etc. Then I found a blog post, by H.H. of Porter Dodson down in sunny Somerset, which claimed she could do it . . . and, ably assisted by S.R., she did!

I have the utmost respect for H.H.'s and S.R.'s knowledge, professionalism and determination to get things done, and I'm pleased to publicly thank H.H. for sorting out all the complexities, dealing with a somewhat sleepy solicitor at the other end, keeping at it and making the sale so much easier for me than I thought it ever could be . . . and after many months of work, not charging any more than her initial quote!

Having researched specialist intestate solicitors, I contacted PDS and explained my role as administrator and that I needed legal advice as well as assistance. I was immediately put through to a senior solicitor whom , after lengthy discussions and negotiated fee, was instructed to represent our unknown relative and all that it entailed.
I asked how long this business would take and it was carefully explained in layman’s terms how heir hunters play a major part and this can take years.
Contracts were signed, and within days of having received all the paperwork, they were back with a rough calculation of time scales, disbursement costs (included in the fixed fee); important immediate tasks that needed to be done such as insuring the empty property; protecting the property; valuing the property and assets, etc etc . Of course I questioned everything and indeed was permitted to gather quotes and discuss best price and practise, making my role feel respected; listened to and valued.
I cannot fault their attention to detail; their communication skills and professionalism. Furthermore the “don’t hold me to this but could be 18 months “ was exactly that and all beneficiaries have received their windfalls with a bitter sweet gratitude from an aunt whom,sadly, few of us had ever known

Robert Coppard took me through a property purchase. As far as I'm concerned the company did what it was paid to do and did it well. What more can one say? Everyone was courteous and friendly and, human nature being what it is, that inspires confidence.
I have one beef, and that is regarding communication. On two or three occasions, having sent material information, I found myself waiting, wondering, "did they receive that last email I sent?" Years ago, solicitors would acknowledge every incoming communication, to excess sometimes, but now, perhaps to keep fees down, acknowledgement has swung the other way. Surely the modern computer system can be triggered to electronically acknowledge communications at almost no additional cost to the practice?
Apart from that (which at the time is quite unnerving) all was good.

We have had very good service from Porter Dodson, Bridport. Ms Stephanie McCulloch helped us redraft our Wills during Covid and met us outside in a car park with her assistant to witness us signing them. Thankfully not on a windy or wet day! Just recently Stephanie helped us draw up Lasting Powers of Attorney and arranged for them to be registered. We were pleased with the professional and friendly way these matters were handled and we would certainly use Porter Dodson again.
