The Screwfix web site lies about stock availability

The Screw fix web site lies about what's in stock. I have an urgent issue with my plumbing that needs resolution ASAP. Web site said product I need to fix it was in stock. Placed order. Order accepted. Message 15 mins later to say that the item won't be available for collection until tomorrow. Assume my mistake. Canceled order. Went back to website and found another store near me with plenty of stock. Placed order. Message 15 mins later to say item not available today because it's coming from the warehouse. Cancelled order. I'm now waiting for refund on two orders. I still don't have the tools I need to fix my problem. I've wasted a lot of time. Very frustrated.

Update: I'm still receiving texts about these orders being ready for collection, despite my having gone through the process of canceling. I was concerned this meant that something was wrong with the cancelation process, so I contacted Screwfix customer services. Having navigated one of those annoying chat bots, I was finally put through to a pleasant human. They assured me that the orders are canceled. Screwfix IT systems at fault... again.

My local Screwfix Lockwood in Huddersfield are definitely the friendliest helpful branch I’ve used, nothing is too much trouble, also it’s nice to be recognised when you call in.

Joke

Been using Screwfix for many years and until recently would be 5 stars. However today I was supposed to receive a delivery of 3 items,only one of which arrived,I went online to chat with customer services 3 times today and each time I got a different response, absolutely not what I am used to, normally very efficient,but despite using them for over 10 years I will not be using them anymore,I will take my business elsewhere, absolute joke,don't waste your time here

Good and helpful customer service agent.

Bought a water pump which failed after a week. Checked online and it said it couldn’t be returned to the store (for sanitary reasons). Called customer services, got through quickly, very helpful chap and after a quick explanation, he arranged for a replacement to be sent to
Me immediately. It arrived next day. Really good customer service, thank you.

Worst company in the UK

Screwfix is the worst company found
You pay the money and they say on catalogue that it's good quality of all items
I've been working in building and still for over 27 years
Last deal was with screwfix was on 22 December 2025 I love to buy caterpillar work shoes but at that time I bought a dewalt work shoes and asked for size 9 so I used it for less than half a day and found that size is 9 but it is designed for size 10
So I went to new basford branch store and explained situation and said that I want size 9 but in fact it is big size check it by yourself
Staff were not cooperating neither customer services
The worst customer service I had dealt with
They are indeed a robots and staff at said branch when I went twice and they did not cooperate with me to exchange ut
Just their language is it is used used used
What I found at screwfix staff and customer stupidity and racism and ignorants of dealing with customers
And total robots
My advice to everyone to be very careful dealing with screwfix in terms of quality
F9r example you ask for items like drill bits special for granite and ceramic they say so but it doesn't make a hole on a piece of paper and cost so much
It is really bad quality
Found many other companies less price and quality and you can check online for quality
Shoes with bad manufacturing indeed they don't manufacture they just take commission on sales but it is high commission and items presented in market are really bad
I advice everyone to be cautious with screwfix
This is the truth

Manager of the local store was brilliant

I have read some of the negative reviews about Screw Fix and I have no doubt that the accounts were very true however, although I don't use Screw Fix much I had a stunning experience on 17th February 2026 at the Wymondham, Norfolk store. The manager there was excellent and patient beyond belief. Great technical advice as well. I had a very slight problem after getting home with one item but in honesty that had been over tightened by the manufacturer and the manager then soon sorted it out. Couldn't thank him enough.

the addition of the click and collect…

the addition of the click and collect check in screens is an annoying addition. i have seen these in the likes of M&S and other places and they just do not work. I have had nothing but problems with them. I do not want to interact with a screen when going in to a store I want to interact with a person. I was forced today by a member of staff from the wigan branch after I said I didn't want to use them. but was told I had to! I was not the only person having problems as others where swearing and complaining about having to use them and them not working.

I will be closing my account and not using screwfix again.

Unfortunately, I was told I HAD TO USE THEM by the woman member of staff, I was not the only person either. The other person also got very angry, and the pad would not work for them.

just to add, the click and collect tablets do not make it "quick or convenient" way to check in when collecting their orders. They add in an additional step and also take away the fact that you may want to talk to a member of staff, maybe get advice or buy additional Items!

As i said if we are being forced more and more to use screens I may as well order from a different cheaper suppler over the internet and get it delivered!

There online account for invoices etc, is so poor its below 1 star
I waste more time on ther attempting to print invoices etc than in the store

I have a battery booster pack that is…

I have a battery booster pack that is now 4days past the warranty and it has stopped charging I expected to be told that it was out of warranty and they were unable to do anything but after speaking to customer service they offered me a replacement without any quibbles and they even reordered it for me. I couldn’t ask for any better service.

Never had a good experience

Never had a good experience. Order online, never picked until I arrive after waiting the time asked. Next time, go in store, order at the tablet, it asks for a name to be called for so I stand around with people being served until I go up and ask. Now, this may be my error in not understanding the way this works at Screwfix and expecting it to work like Argos but I do feel like it should be clearer.

Couldn't even login to my account to check items ordered. Keeps saying to enter a code sent to my email which never arrives. Even checked junk and spam. Awful

Done believe there replays to any review

Bought a washing machine in October and stated leaking all over my floor shortly after. Contacted screwfix and there reply was you will need to contact the supplier for a refund and looking at the reviews it seems everyone's gets the same replay from screwfix

I ordered an impact driver £200 for…

I ordered an impact driver £200 for next day delivery. DPD have lied about attempting to deliver the item claiming I wasn’t in. All rubbish, they have been nowhere near my house. Screwfix are refusing to refund the item until it’s returned to them! Apparently it’s being held at the DPD warehouse at Peterborough. Despite complaining to screwfix im getting nowhere. They clearly don’t care. In future I’ll shop elsewhere.

Impossible to cancel orders

Not only can you not cancel an order, but the customer service will just lie and tell you the order is cancelled when it isn't.

I can understand it more for items that are next-day, but I experienced this for something with a week+ lead time, which makes absolutely no sense.

great customer service

great customer service, british people with a telephone service! no bots or webchat , no oversea call center .. Any issue friendly staff that are happy to sort any problem.. Business with no telephone service or oversea call centres i find have the worst customer service!

Screwfix staff asking for personal information

I don't like Screwfix staff asking for my personal details. In my day if someone you didn't know asked for your personal details you would tell them to mind their own business. Another way I look at it is, when I go shopping for groceries the grocery store staff don'r ask me for my personal details, and neither should Screwfix. There is no need for it.
