The Money Platform was created to support underserved customers who may not have access to mainstream credit, and we aim to provide a fairer, lower-cost alternative to many of the options otherwise available.

We are constantly working to reduce our costs and pass those savings on to customers.

We’re also developing new tools, including financial education and support, to help customers build confidence and unlock access to cheaper credit over time.

Your comments have raised a really important point, and we want to take this opportunity to explain to you (and others reading this) about our product.

Our loans are aimed at being "one off" loans to customers who can clearly afford the loan repayments, we are fully focused on trying to help customers excluded from mainstream finance with one-off costs (new boiler, car breakdowns etc).

But these loans aren't suited to covering ongoing day-to-day spending, they aren't like a credit card, where you can borrow again and again without end.

We have built and are working on tools to help our customers manage their money in the best way possible so that customers who are in a habit of being reliant on credit can break that cycle.

Many lenders now chose to exclude those without a UK Credit History or a perfect credit score.

We are taking a different approach, working with financially excluded customers to help with one off expenses and build long term financial resilience.

We won the Financial Inclusion Award and were shortlisted as Ethical Lender of the Year - so we are laser focused on helping people avoid debt dependency and live their best financial lives.

Thanks for your review - your experience is important to us and we have looked into it to discover what went wrong and how we can help.

I can see you attempted to add your bank account and it failed to add. I can see you attempted to do this multiple times. This is because it did not pass one of our checks - a bank check that seeks to validate the information on the bank account to the information you gave us in your application (name, address etc). Sometimes this fails because there was a error, sometimes because our check does not support certain types of bank account - I am really sorry that in your instance this was not clear to you, a solution was not found and that we were not able to help you to overcome this issue.

We are redesigning our customer journey to make issues like this easier for customers.

We're constantly looking to improve our systems, because Lending in the UK is broken and many lenders now chose to exclude those without a UK Credit History or a perfect credit score. We are taking a different approach, working with financially excluded customers to help with one off expenses and build long term financial resilience.

I am sorry, once again, that you had difficulties with our website.

Hi Luc,

Thank you for getting in touch and for sharing your concerns. We’ve reviewed your lending account and can confirm that you invested with us in 2017, participating in five loans. We’re sorry to hear that your experience has not been positive.

It’s important to note that lending through The Money Platform involves risk, and capital is not guaranteed. We make this clear throughout the investor journey — for example, our website prominently states: “Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose money. This is a high-risk investment.” We also include multiple reminders of the potential for loss during sign-up and require all investors to complete a short knowledge test to ensure these risks are understood.

Diversification plays a key role in managing risk. Our recent data shows that 97% of lenders who invest in more than 50 loans are in profit, while this figure falls to less than 70% for those investing in fewer than 10 loans. Participating in a just few loans means lenders become more exposed to individual borrower outcomes.

I want to assure you that your outstanding loan was actively followed up and escalated through our debt collection process. A small partial recovery was achieved and distributed to your account.

However, we recognise that you ultimately experienced a loss of around £100, and we sincerely regret that this has been your outcome. We also take on board your feedback about communicating this process better.

We are continuously improving our credit decisioning and borrower assessment to reduce return volatility and better protect lenders, particularly those with smaller portfolios. A great deal has evolved since your 2017 investment, but your feedback remains valuable in helping us improve further.
