Within 4 years of being professionally installed in the context of a new roof for a heritage property, our 6 Conservation Rooflights started to show signs of serious failure. It is very disturbing given the cost of the roofights, the short time that lapsed since their installation, and the complexity of accessing the roof, to see rubber popping out from everywhere! To this day we are dismayed to see how they are falling apart and we are very concerned about water seeping in, so we can never open for ventilation and there is a terrible draught on windy days. We have provided detailed photos to show the aftersales team how the gaskets are steadily sliding out from between the glass pane and the metal frame, as well as photos of the rubber seals cushioning the metal frame onto the ceiling as they seem to be all melting out of place. Although this is a clearly a manufacturing issue, either due to poor product design and quality, or a faulty batch, and cannot be fully resolved on-site, after much back and forth we were sent a kit of rubber seals without any offer of technical or financial assistance for covering the cost of necessary remedial action. Needless to say, so high up on a roof, the repairs are both expensive and inconvenient, as they require careful timing, extensive manpower and a scaffolding. This is really disappointing: an expensive product such as a rooflight should be sustainable and not fail so quickly, so please choose carefully and take out extra insurances and extended warranties as the company standard coverage is only 12 months.

Further to the company’s prompt response and kind encouragement to get in touch again, the aftersales team took our details for the manager to review and eventually call us back with a solution. In the meantime a couple of clarifications for a more complete review:
1/ We agree this is a difficult moment and fully appreciate the lockdown constraints but this actually pre-dated the pandemic;
2/ A technician site visit was already ruled out at the time the defects were reported on account of us being too remote, and it would have been at our expense;
3/ We understand that rubber kits graciously sent to our installers would not fully address the problem as the defective seals between glass and metal frames are factory installed during manufacturing.

UPDATE - Since we put in the review late March, heard back from customer services early April encouraging us not to give up and get back in touch, we provided additional documentation such as our previous email exchanges that they could not retrieve, with original photos and new images of the worsening state of the rooflights, we have been following up but unfortunately nothing new to report in terms of resolution as of mid-June as the date we had for an initial site visit later this month was cancelled due to a personal issue faced by the one and only engineer assigned to technical site visits. Another summer season without the ventilation afforded by well functioning rooflights lies ahead... really hope to be able to post better news soon!

UPDATE: it's mid-August now, and we are still engaged in endless follow up with customer services begging them to please help us retrieve some ventilation by fixing the rooflights to make sure we can open them and to ensure that come autumn we have no risk of water infiltration due to the faulty seals, but sadly no resolution in sight, not even a very first step to come and see the defects in person and confirm the photographs and videos we have shared. Indeed, there seems to be little chance of the "reconnaissance" site visit that was finally scheduled (and cancelled) in June as the only engineer affiliated with the company has since then resigned.

At this point we had no choice but to reach out once more to the Citizens Advice Bureau who have taken the step to red-flag this company to Trading Standards until our situation is remedied.

UPDATE 24/08/21@9am: Customer service emailed Fri Aug 20 offering last minute site visit: most grateful for this! Thanks to today's inspection, access is being planned and parts ordered, which will hopefully pave the way for our repairs and/or replacements.

UPDATE: 29/03/22: Further to the inspection visit in August last year our turn has finally come for a technician visit. A big step forward in resolving this longstanding issue.

Very kind and professional, he was able to replace the seal between roof light frames and ceiling, but unfortunately was not made aware of the more concerning issue with the gaskets sliding out between the glass and the metal (see above and 3/) so we must wait, in hope, a few more months for a follow up to be arranged.

Conservation Rooflight is an excellent product, quickly delivered.

Delivery was 3 days late with no update from The Rooflight Company I rang 5 times with no response. Absolute Joke Shop

I was looking into sky lights for my sister's home extension and Amy at The Rooflight Co was brilliant. She got back to me quickly with very helpful information (I didn't know much about roof lights prior to contacting her) and questions. When she had the right information from me and my sister, she quickly sent over an informative quote. I was really impressed with the high level of professionalism and great customer service. 100% recommend.

As an architect I personally have 3 of these flat roof roof lights, fitted nearly 3 years ago and they have been brilliant. I have absolutely no complaints or nigggles. The technical and sales staff were excellent, knowledgeable and helpful. I can thoroughly recommend both product and company.

Prompt and helpful service even during a pandemic, windows arrived well packaged which was just as well as we couldnt fit them as quickly as we'd hoped. I'd definitely recommend the Rooflight Company and will use them again.

Ordered 1 skylight and it was delivered on time. Tried to order another and needed it for the end of the week- couldn't get hold of my previous contact for love nore money. Sorted in the end but very painful experience. product seems good- shame the sales let it down

I contacted you's regarding two roof lights and was told to wait 55/60 days ? How can you run a business with this much lead time, Surely a company of your size should keep stock of material to manufacture quicker than this ? I am a Builder from Sunderland and get asked all the time for roof windows, You's are missing out on potential turnover !

The company website is not fully compatible with use on an ipad, which led to the wrong flashing being ordered.
The courier delivered the window in badly damaged packaging ( which given the size and weight of the window was really not what i’d have expected).
The installation instructions are contradictory , no copy of the main drawing is provided , you are expected to print it off yourself , but being A3 not really a home office job.
Instructions included with the product refer repeatedly to the “pre installation instruction” which were not included, on inquiring with the company was told they’ve been superseded.
The online instruction manual whilst comprehensive is mostly in greyscale and not not easiest to follow. The main A3 drawing has a couple of annotation errors.
Instructions say its upto the architect to determine a major dimension , surely not beyond the company to provide a spreadsheet / calculation to enable customer to do this easily.
Nothing that can’t be sorted but could most certainly have been done better. Product itself is fine, though early days yet.

No purchased - yet - but the best service and very helpful indeed.

I haven’t received the window yet because I am waiting on the builder being available. In these Covid times schedules are delayed. So, all I can comment on is customer service which has been excellent. I received helpful advice at the ordering stage and was contacted when the window was ready for delivery. They were happy to hang on to the item until my builder is ready and made follow up calls to check whether I still want it held back. Very pleasant people to deal with.
