Honestly, the worst customer experience I’ve had in a long time
Honestly, the worst customer experience I’ve had in a long time. Reserved 15’ truck 3/13: Reservation: 20567625 Location: 6249 Seminole Blvd. Called and confirmed both with agent, 03/29 at 9:31am. On 4/1, DAY OF RENTAL, Uhaul cancelled my reservation. When I called, they said that location does not rent trucks, and the next closest location only has one 10’ truck! They deflected everything onto "Corporate Call Center" and "The Phone App". While renting in person, I complained they needed to make things right, as my movers were being paid for waiting on me plus they would take twice as long for many trips in small truck. The only response from the sour-faced on-duty manager was “Well, you’re wasting more time talking.” The final insult was the dilapidated truck with driver's visor clip torn out, and it kept blocking my view of the road. The passenger door was smashed and would not close properly, so Door Ajar warning stayed on. The suspension was also shot, and made horrible clunking noises the whole time.
Best customer service EVER!!
We’ve used U-Haul twice now and couldn’t recommend this company enough!! They went above and beyond both times to ensure we were able to access what we needed at an unbeatable price! We had to change the dates and times multiple times for our first reservation and they not only worked with us, but kept our price locked in! They were more than $500 less than their competitors!! The second time, we ended up running behind schedule and they stayed after hours to make sure we could pick up our order. We will never be able to use another moving company again!
NIGHTMARE OF A MOVE WITH U-HAUL
U-Haul as a corporation contacted us prior to our move. We had reserved a 26’ truck for a 1 way move 2 hours away. We were asked by U-Haul if we would assist them with equipment re-distribution of a tow dolly by hauling it with us to our final drop off destination. We agreed to do so with the understanding that both the truck and tow dolly would be picked up in one location, Milledgeville, GA and both dropped off in one location, Statham, GA. In return for our assistance, our rental period was increased from 24 hour rental to 48 hour rental and an additional 100 miles were given for the trip.
The day before our scheduled pick up time, I received a text from U-Haul indicating that our truck and the tow dolly were scheduled to be picked up in 2 separate locations more than 30 minutes away from each other and our drop off of the truck and tow dolly were also scheduled for 2 separate locations 15 minutes away from each other. The text indicated that I could respond to the message if those arrangements did not work. I responded to the message immediately and received no response or follow up from U-Haul.
Frustrated but already overwhelmed with the 2 hour move, we decided to just deal with the 2 separate pick up and drop off locations rather than spend time we didn’t have on the phone fighting to get it corrected.
We picked up the truck and tow dolly at 2 separate locations on Thursday 3/12, loaded our home and drove the 2 hours to drop off the tow dolly on Friday 3/13. When we arrived at the drop off location for the tow dolly, the company came out and unhooked the trailer and gave us a receipt for the drop off. We then continued on to our new home to unload the truck and return it to the second location on Friday 3/13 even though our rental was booked through Saturday 3/14. Upon truck drop off, U-Haul attempted to charge us overage fees for additional miles and I got irate with them reminding them that the agreement was for one location for pick up of both items and one location for drop off of both items in exchange for 48 hours of rental time and an additional 100 miles and NONE of the agreement had been followed, requiring us to pick up and drop off in a grand total of 4 locations in 4 separate towns and that I was not paying additional miles as a result of their incompetence. A phone call to the corporate office eventually waived the fees.
On Sunday 3/15 I began receiving texts from U-Haul that we had not complied with the tow dolly drop off by the scheduled time. I replied to the text that the tow dolly has been dropped off at the designated location a day early on Friday 3/13. I was reassured that the location would be contacted on Monday morning 3/16 to clear up the computer discrepancy.
On Monday 3/16, I began receiving emails regarding unreturned equipment (the tow dolly) and that I needed to contact U-Haul to resolve and return the equipment. I angrily called the site that we had dropped the trailer off at on Friday 3/13 and expressed my frustrations that they had physically removed the tow dolly from the truck for us on Friday 3/13 and we were being harassed that it was not dropped off. The woman was friendly but stated that she didn’t leave their office on Friday and go to their lot to see what equipment was returned. I had to explain to her the unnecessary hassle this causes for customers when they go 3 days without updating their computer system. She checked the equipment in online and issued me a receipt showing no balance due.
I’ve moved cross country more than once and completed several fairly local moved in the past 20 years. I’ve always used U-Haul. NEVER AGAIN. This entire process made an already stressful time a NIGHTMARE by us simply agreeing to HELP YOU!!!
This review is not a reflection of the local pickup site for the tow dolly pick up in Gordon, GA or the truck drop off in Statham, GA. They were kind, friendly and helpful. This review is a reflection of the HORRIBLE customer service at both the corporate level and the tow dolly drop off location in Winder, GA.
Conveniently, U-Haul only sent me a review to complete for the pick up and drop off locations that we DIDN’T have an issue with. I’m assuming they were hoping we didn’t share this disaster.
Terrible Experience
Booked a truck for my moving weekend and less than 24 hours before pickup, they changed the location and time without asking. The new location was about 80 km farther, which was super inconvenient.
They offered a small discount and said they’d add extra km, but after returning the truck, I still got charged for an extra 50 km out of nowhere.
Ended up paying more than expected, plus extra gas and wasted time. Customer service wasn’t helpful and wouldn’t do anything without photos of the odometer (which they never told us to take).
Make sure you take pictures before and after, or you might get charged extra.
I rented a u-box to move my stuff over…
I rented a u-box to move my stuff over to a new town. Receiving it was fine, if not a little tedious to get all the payments in order. the problem is that they dropped a surprise $99 charge on me out of nowhere, and held the box until the day before the monthly charge kicked in, and won't pick it up until after, so that's ANOTHER $99 charge I have to deal with because of their incompetence.
I reserved a uhaul via phone call,went…
I reserved a uhaul via phone call, went to location to pick up the uhaul and it took over an hour and a half to get the key. I was charged 160.00 on my debit card to which was returned then charged 94 dollars. Was charged for a dolly but never recieved it. I was under the impression i was paying 10 dollars for dolly, 29.95 for the vehicle rental for 24hrs, and 1.09 per mile driven.. i drove 16miles. Brought the vehicle back with same amount of gas...early. and was charged 165. Well last i knew,...rounding up..30+10+18 does not equal 165. Uhaul is a huge bullshit ripoff. Dont rent a uhaul.
Uhaul insurance is a scam …
Rented a car dolly to tow my car from California to Arizona. I purchased a insurance policy thru uhaul for any damage to my vehicle caused by uhauls property. We'll the car dolly ripped the front bumper off my car while towing it. My vehicles was in great condition no damage at all prior to towing it. We'll to make a long story short. Uhauls insurance company found every reason they could not to cover the damage. They sell you insurance that they never have the intention to pay out when you need it. Uhaul and its insurance company are a fraud among many other choice words I have for them. There equipment caused thousands of dollars in damage to my previously undamaged car. Do not use uhaul and if you do don't waste your money on their insurance to protect your property. They will never pay. The damage to my car is so bad. We are seniors on social security and can't afford to fix this damag. DONT USE UHAUL. I BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO US IS A CRIMINAL ACT AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
Absolutely terrible experience with…
Absolutely terrible experience with U-Haul. This was by far one of the most frustrating and unprofessional customer service situations I’ve ever dealt with.
My wife and I reserved a truck for March 1, 2026, and needed it early (5:00 AM) to meet a strict storage deadline. Before booking, we specifically called customer service because the listed pickup time didn’t match our needs. The representative clearly told us that with mobile pickup, we could get the truck anytime that morning.
That turned out to be completely false.
When we arrived, the app wouldn’t let us check in. We had to wait for support, and even then, the issue had to be manually fixed. This delay caused us to miss our storage deadline, resulting in an extra $130 fee.
Here’s the worst part:
U-Haul later admitted their representative gave us incorrect information… and still refused to take any responsibility.
Area Manager Stephen Mansfield was rude and dismissive, telling me “we don’t owe you anything,” and refusing to escalate the issue or provide contact information for his supervisor. I was later contacted by Rebecca Carroll, who was just as unprofessional—confirming the error on U-Haul’s part but still denying any compensation, and offering no apology whatsoever.
At this point, it’s not even about the money. It’s about how customers are treated. Being given wrong information, dealing with delays, and then being spoken to with disrespect is unacceptable.
U-Haul showed zero accountability and zero customer service. I will never use them again, and I strongly recommend others think twice before booking with them.
Save yourself the headache and go with a company that actually values its customers.
Offered a free trailer- RUN! Not Worth the “Free” Trailer Offer
I would have placed this on the U-Haul site but the "real customer reviews" on their site only allow reviews on the pickup/drop-off locations. Here is one about the company and the deals they offer.
I was asked by U-Haul to transport a 4x8 trailer from Georgia to Maine and was offered a $50 reimbursement for doing so. While there was no rental charge for the trailer, I would strongly caution others before agreeing to this type of “deal.”
I drove approximately 1,250 miles in a fully loaded 20 ft truck. A truck like this typically gets around 8 MPG, which would require about 156 gallons of fuel for the trip. However, towing even an empty trailer reduced fuel efficiency to around 6.5 MPG due to added drag and resistance. That increased fuel usage to about 192 gallons.
At an average fuel cost of $3.60 per gallon, that is an increase of roughly 36 gallons, or about $130 in additional fuel costs alone—well over double the $50 reimbursement offered.
Beyond the fuel cost, the trailer made driving significantly more difficult. Because it was empty, it was actually harder to control in windy conditions and felt unstable at times. It also made lane changes, merging, and navigating traffic much more stressful and time-consuming. The added length and handling challenges slowed the trip down and required constant extra attention for safety.
While the idea of helping relocate equipment may sound reasonable, the compensation did not come close to covering the real costs or the added difficulty of the drive.
In my experience, this was not worth it. I would recommend future customers carefully consider the true fuel cost, safety impact, and added stress before accepting a similar offer.

The price of the 19.99 a day didnt happen. 2day 159.00.
That's a lot to pay..
Rented a box truck at the Bruckner blvd…
Rented a box truck at the Bruckner blvd U-Haul location. Took pics using there app. Truck was muddy outside and old & worn out inside but it was an old truck no big deal. Paid for insurance & 50 miles. I had the truck approximately three hours and drove it 10 miles. Return the truck. The gentlemen said everything‘s looks good thank you very much and I left the following day. I looked at my email and I saw there was two charges. They charged me “$175 CLEANING FEE”This is insane! Again $175 CLEANING FEE!!! I called twice went to the location was told to come back but the manager Stephanie was not there. Left my information and heard nothing. All the trucks are dirty from the snow and rain. This has to be addressed customers be aware of this charge. This is a bad business practice to get charged $175 for cleaning a dirty old truck. Do you wanna pay to clean their truck? This is a scam. This is unprofessional. It must be addressed once again. Please be aware.!!!
Uhaul Dilworth Minnesota storage…
Uhaul Dilworth Minnesota storage complaint review::
Most of the problems I had Uhaul storage at Dilworth MN location surfaced when I arrived to move my items out of storage 2/27 prior to next billing cycle/due date of 2/28.
First, I forgot or could not locate my Uhaul disc lock key(s), so I could not enter my storage unit (I think #2335) on 2/27. So I walked on over to the office to get help breaking the lock off. No one was in the office to help me break off lock.
The next day, 2/28 (Saturday) I come by Dilworth Uhaul office again around 2 pm. Ethan, a tall young blond/brown haired Uhaul employee was there. He told me he texted Isaisha Crawford, the general manager, but her phone was on silent. He told me he didn't know how to break lock off & that either Marcus or Isaisha needed to assist with this (with shop mtnc men). Ethan told me to come back the next day, 3/1 (Sunday).
So, this caused me to be delayed by one day, which disrupted my other plans & ability to get my items out of storage on 2/27. Also, I don't live in Fargo Moorehead Dilworth area but do live 4-5 hours south. I had to drive up to take care of moving my belongings out, planning to spend no more than one night at a hotel in Fargo while doing this. Having to come back the next day, required me to stay another night in hotel as it would and did take several hours sorting through and removing/loading my belongings in vehicle to remove from storage unit, not leaving me enough time to drive back 2/28 4-5 hours South (home).
On 3/1, the next day, I came by the Dilworth Uhaul office to again seek assistance to break my disk lock off my storage unit locker, but again, it was the Uhaul employee Ethan in the office.i came about 11:45 am. Ethan told me he called General manager Isaisha Crawford. After he got off phone he told me Anaisha (GM) was driving back to office, that she was at office earlier. Isaisha arrived back to Uhaul Dilworth office around 12:30-1 pm.
I found out from Aniasha, as she came in office, without looking at me for most of time she was talking, in a drone like stressed hangdog look way, that she tried to break lock off (I have photo image) , drilled hole in it, but it didn't work, couldn't get lock off. I was appreciative of the effort but upset lock was still not broken off my storage unit so I could remove my storage items, especially having already been delayed 2 days.
Aniasha told me I had to wait for her to talk to shop maintenance guys next day to see if they would break lock off then. I was not happy with answer, wanted more assurance/ details. Now, I had to wait around again with no definite answer.
Anaisha , the GM, rudley went into to scold me in an exasperated rude condescending voice about how she already repeated what she told me about me having to wait yet another day (to 3/2, Monday). She then offered her business card for me to contact her but did tell me she would text me the next day (,tomorrow 3/2) when she found out if and when maintenance shop guys would remove/break my disk storage unit lock off.
So, I am/had to wait yet another day for help to get my lock off. I had to pay for yet one more night (now total of 2 more nights) at a Fargo Moorehead/Dilworth area hotel as result thatI would not have had to pay if I had received good customer service from Uhaul in breaking the lock off the same day I requested help with this.
I did come back 3/2, Monday after I received text from Anaisha letting me know maintenance guys likely would have lock off by 11:30sh to 12 some pm. I came by Uhaul storage unit around 1 pm. The lock had finally been broken off & removed so that I could get my storage items moved out of my unit
I am upset at the additional time/days I had to wait as well as additional expense of 2 more nights of a hotel stay I had to spend on, when I should have received help in short time 2/27 to break my Uhaul storage unit lock off.
I would very much appreciate compensation for the additional time & expense caused for myself, a Uhaul customer, for the very poor customer service I received from Uhaul staff at this Uhaul Dilworth storage unit location .
I have used Uhaul for many moves in past (truck rentals) & storage units over the length of 2-3 decades, I will no longer do so
Will never contact u haul again..
Will never contact u haul again..
Falsey advertise 20 ft trucks when there only 16ft. , i know , because I went 21 of their lots , the other night popped open the back of the trucks and started measuring them. It's only 19 and a 1/2 feet above the cab.The rest of it's only sixteen feet , and the fifteen footers are only twelve feet. It also says on the back that if you report a trailer with electric brakes it will need a break controller and to contact u haul, u-Haul refuses to put one in any of their trucks .That's false advertisement , right there , and I have pictures of that advertisement as well.
That's too false Advertisements between contacting them about electric brake controllers and the size of the truck that they're renting out. The trucks have doubled if not doubled in a half from what they were four years ago , and these trucks are from before the inflation hit so I know they didn't buy them during the inflation. They were bought before inflation , but using inflation prices as an excuse, so I took that u haul right back to that location an hour after picking it up , and I will never , ever return to uhaul anywhere.. i would recommend people start going to budget. They are about 800 to a $1000.Cheaper per truck right now than u haul, i would highly recommend people go to budget, their trucks line up to the footage they advertise them as.. there's a big U-Haul location that was just built here 2 years ago.And they tell me at this location , they don't even allow their trucks to go one way.
Uhaul's customer service dept: Me, Myself & I
U-Haul's customer service dept consists of 3 people: Me, Myself and I. Absolute waste of time to add ANY wrinkle whatsoever to a reservation.
Absolutely unhappy with the service
Absolutely unhappy with the service. They charged me twice for the hire and it took them 3 days for the refund to be received not only that but I paid $250 bond it’s been 5 business days I called them up and they’ve informed me it takes 10-15 business days for the bond to be refunded by the bank. Comparing with Bunnings van hire your bond is received on the day or GoGet Vans are very reliable w no bond required and cheaper than U-Haul what an absolute joke!
Wtach the fule level reading closely
I just received my invoice, and for the 14 kilometers I drove, U‑HAUL is charging me for 6 liters of fuel.
However, right before returning the vehicle, I stopped at a gas station and added 8.8 liters myself (I have the receipt).
Based on these numbers, the vehicle would have the following fuel consumption:
- 63 L/100 km if we consider only the 8.8 liters I added
- 43 L/100 km if we assume only U‑HAUL’s 6 liters were needed
- 106 L/100 km if we combine both amounts
All of these values are impossible for a 9‑foot U‑HAUL cargo truck.
They represent between 2× and 5× the normal fuel consumption for this vehicle type.
This clearly indicates that the fuel level recorded by this branch is incorrect!
Good service
Good service. I paid exactly what I was quoted for an out of town move. They only thing that they didn't mention and they charge me later was the tolls. They charge you each toll plus $1 admin fee for each one
On 3/8/26 I rented a uhaul truck at the…
On 3/8/26 I rented a uhaul truck at the Lapeer MI location. The truck got stuck in mud and I had purchased the road hazard. It took them 2 hours to get to us and another hour to release the truck so we waited 3 hours of time we had help moving. I returned the truck before the 9pm return time at 811 pm the website would not work for me to complete the online information. I text the number that I had been chatting with from uhaul about the road hazard reporting and let them know the truck was returned since I couldn't get into the website. Uhaul wants to charge me a $20 late fee. They will not remove the fee even though all this occurred. The gas was also right where we received it- just below a quarter tank but they charged a $30 fee plus 11$ for gas. I would plan for multiple rip off charges if you use Uhaul
This company is a joke
This company is a joke. We rented a truck in Buffalo to move my mom. Got all the way to Buffalo three hours away and they had didn’t have a truck after my brother confirmed it the day before. A couple months later I rented a trailer in Dryden. Two days after my reservation was made I was told that I would have to go to Ithaca to pick up the trailer which is another 45 minutes round-trip to pick up and drop off the trailer. When I didn’t get a confirmation on my reservation, I called the location in Dryden and they said they never have the 6 x 12 trailer that I rented. Why would they take a reservation for a location that never carries the trailer I rented. So because I had no other options, I went down to Ithaca to pick up the trailer and 20 minutes before I was supposed to pick up the trailer they called me and said they didn’t have a trailer in Ithaca. They said I could go pick up one in Watkins Glen, which is an additional 45 minutes round-trip.
This company is a joke I would rent from anywhere other than U-Haul.
Changed pickup location without notifying me
I reserved a truck a couple months ago to pick up at a location near me. The day before my move I saw on the website that the pickup location was changed to a place an hour’s drive away. No one informed me of this and I was told the truck I reserved was not available at the nearby location. With advance notice I could have made other plans. As it is, my carefully planned moving day is thrown into disarray. I was offered more mileage to compensate for the extra driving distance to pick up the truck, but was refused a discount or any other compensation for the inconvenience. It’s not the first time I have experienced uhaul not having the equipment I reserved. In the future I will look to other options first.
