Very efficient - well organised and excellent joinery for external double doors with side windows - highly recommend

In May 2023, the timber subframes were replaced with acoya wood by Martin Foy Wealden Joinery Rotherfield, to three dormer windows. On the 2nd of August, whilst waiting for my taxi to take me to the airport, I took a last house check and found the rain pouring in and onto the floor of the said three dormer windows. I called Wealden Joinery, and Martin Foy was on holiday.

I called in a surveyor who erected scaffolding around one window in order to obtain detailed findings. I will be brief about what he found: the windows were badly and incorrectly sealed, and in some places, not sealed at all. The black sealant was not even water-tight. The lead flashings under the sills should have been turned up at the sides. In fact, the new lead flashings were placed over the old and not sealed, causing the rain to also run in under the window sills. In order that I do not go into the extent of the poor workmanship of very costly windows and great stress. I will leave you with details of the minimum work essential commented by the surveyor. Fit lead cover flashing over tile hanging to the corners of windows, provide good quality silicon sealant between mortar vergers and window frames, provide good quality silicon sealant to subframes, and provide continuous silicon sealant between window sills and lead flashings. The surveyor stated that no one will guarantee that the windows are watertight without removing and reinstalling them. The above solutions are likely to help, but may not remedy the water ingress.

I have placed a good temporary sealant around the window frames pro tem. Prior to the installation of the window frames, Martin Foy informed me he was F.E.N.S.A. approved and indeed had good reviews. Martin Foy refuses to accept the surveyor's findings and continues to prevaricate. And your problem, Martin Foy, is not over until the fat lady sings.

The new window looks great and was fitted rapidly and professionally. Dealing with Wealden Joinery was a pleasure as they are responsive and do what they say they're going to do - a rare thing these days!

Superb service from Martin and Andy installing new timber-framed slimline glazed windows on our Grade 2 listed house which, as to be expected, came with its own challenges of being wonky in places! We are extremely happy with the quality of workmanship, the excellent attention to detail and the patience displayed by Martin explaining in layman terms the process involved. Not only that, but he listened to what I wanted, which was not uniformity throughout, and ensured that my wishes were fulfilled. Andy, our fitter, was a master at his trade and his extensive experience shone through. They're not cheap for sure, but you get what you pay for which is an outstanding product and an extremely knowledgeable and experienced team. Highly recommend and we will be back to finish the other third of the house once we have saved up again!

Just had a new window by Wealden Joinery installed in our house and couldn't be happier. It's beautifully crafted and was installed with very little fuss. Planning to have others replaced by Wealden in the future.

Contacted Wealden not really knowing if they would be able to help with the window and door work I needed doing. From my first telephone call with Gaynor in the office I knew I was dealing with a firm that understood its customers. My experience from beginning to end was highly professional and friendly. The work was completed in the timescales promised and we are delighted with the final product.

We chose Wealden Joinery in 2022 as a registered distributor of Westcoast windows to supply & fit windows to half of our house. We were nervous about placing the order as WJ does not accept any payment by credit card (giving customers protection), nor does it have insurance we could rely on. A 75% deposit was required so we felt we were taking quite a risk, as our order price was £14,715. Pleasingly, there were no issues with the order & we were happy with the fitters.

In 2024, we were able to complete the windows so we contacted WJ again. Initially the service was good, but by the end of the process, my calls were not returned & my emails were ignored. We felt the fitting price was high so we opted for supply only; we don’t consider this a reason for the service level to drop. We agreed a smaller vehicle for the delivery as the road we live in is narrow in places but this was ignored & the vehicle had been loaded in a way that meant the haulage company’s pallet mover could not be used. Delivering items that weigh 90kg without appropriate equipment to offload them is ridiculous.

As a repeat customer, paying WJ £22,515 in total, we expected a much better level of service.

UPDATE following WJ response:
WJ’s initial quote describes the delivery as you’ve described here. However, before I placed the order, we discussed the delivery details (there would be no builder with a forklift) & WJ confirmed in writing to me that the delivery would be on a smaller vehicle with a tail lift. These are the terms that I accepted. The delivery note says "Rigid 7.5t with tail lift" but this was ignored. There was no issue about the size of the order for the tail lift but the pallet had been loaded with other pallets so it could not be moved on to the tail lift. The windows & doors had been screwed on to the pallet & some screws could not be undone because other pallets were in the way. A shambles.

Not always being available to take customer calls is one thing; not returning voicemails is another. I emailed you on 12 June about the delivery not being as WJ agreed & I did not receive a reply.

We found the whole experience with Wealden Joinery making and fitting our windows and doors to be fantastic. They were professional, skilled, friendly and local. The end product looks amazing. The fitting of the windows was well planned with minimum disruption. Overall a great firm with old fashioned values that shine through into the product.

Very pleased with our new French windows and kitchen door and window: it was so good to be able to have real wood as opposed to uPVC and the talented fitters - Dean and Charley - were friendly and very careful workers. Every thing was delivered and fitted on time as arranged.

Wealden Joinery made and installed a new back door for our 1920’s Art and Crafts style home. The door is perfect for the property, beautifully made, and very efficiently and skilfully installed. Very highly recommended, and I would use Wealden Joinery again.

Martin & his team were very professional , polite and stuck to the promised schedule which was very important for us. Our advice would be that they are in demand so be prepared for a generous lead time and the craftmanship and quality of their work is reflected in the price. We feel the wait and investment was more than worthwhile - we have a lovely window, well finished and dry! We would happily recommend them, and would use them again.
