West Brom Building Society Reviews 

This was listed a while back (I believe on Moneysavingexpert.com) as being one of the highest (of an existing generally UK low rate) places for interest. I believe at the time it was around .65%. I made the mistake of putting a small amount of my savings money with them. I never will again. These people literally “lose” your money; either after it has been transferred to them, i.e. gone from the transfer account, taking days to get to your savings account with them (or so they claim) until you’re quite convinced you’ll never see the money again. And, when you need the money back, the same thing happens; it disappears from your account with them but doesn’t materialise with the payee until days have elapsed and you’re worried witless. And don’t think about calling them to complain, it’s like their staff ad was for the worst idiot in the village. If a group of dunderheads had opened a building society, is it. Not even credible and certainly shouldn’t be quoted on MSE.

Horrible way to treat people! Give you hope with AIP…then when you have hope and home (that you would never have looked at if wasn’t for West Brom) to then take it away and pocket the fact you want that home and take the £8k to pay out of mortgage you currently have with them and stress finding another, 13 years I have been with them once gone, never going back..as accordingly to them it ok to give AIP as small print says not 100% so it ok to lead you up a garden path and then destroy you! I am an accountant I wouldn’t have my job with that behaviour! Don’t give a AIP if you aren’t sure if underwriter would actually accept! I would have preferred you just said no instead of false hope and then destroying future is careless you don’t know the mental stress people face individually and this treatment could have very damaging impacts in individuals health and relationships…

my family was involved with the West Brom building society from the branch in West Brom town centre a couple of years ago and we were duped many times by some horrible woman claiming the mortgage contract they had was subject to change without notice. Hidden charges appeared whenever there was notices to do something that they were forced to pay. The mortgage was forcibly pushed onto the family with lies of being unable to get any other mortgage according to the shoddy home builders Barretts homes. I know this much if you ever get these two businesses coming together to offer you a mortgage, flatly refuse it and hang up on them and find some other bank.

Newtown Powys branch is outstanding! Efficient and friendly! Suggest products but don’t push (we’ve done contents insurance great rates and doing our wills) the staff know their customers, they genuinely care and talk whilst remaining efficient and professional. A totally outstandingly brilliant place!

I asked for an interest statement and they told me to contact the Websave team. NO they are part of your organisation so you should contact them and make sure a customer's request is dealt with, not ask your savers to do your work for you.

Went to the branch in New square west bromwich to withdraw some money. The lady serving was do unprofessional. She wanted to k ow everything about my recent divorce, why, when, how... I'm not the type of person that will say anything to halt the situation but come on!!! These people need to stop prying into customers business and simply just do their job. Horrible experience.

Rang Sutton Coldfield branch to ask how I could advise them of our change of address as I did not want to visit the branch in these uncertain times. I spoke to Rachel and she was really helpful and explained there is a change of address form to print off from their website. She was asking where we are moving to and I found out she only lived round the corner to where we currently live.

I opened an online websave account and completed the required AML id checks as requested. They rejected my taxpayer id letter, claiming it did not relate to the current tax year (it did) and then closed the account after 1 month, despite my having sent follow up id.

I have been a customer of the west Bromwich building society for 30 years , the branch is on washwood heath road , Birmingham ,a new member of staff started about 1 year ago and when ever they served me they went into ultra slow mode , I have never been impolite or had any cross words with this person so I don't know why I have been victimised ? The last straw was when I was paying in a cheque for £62.99 and taking out the same amount in cash £62.99 when I entered branch the other cashier was serving someone , then another customer entered and I heard them say they was paying in £2000 cash which would have had to be counted and double counted and of course checked , this was all done and completed while I was still waiting just to pay in a cheque for £62.99 and take out the same amount unbelievable , then as a nasty deed I was told they only had 20p,s ,and was given £60 and the £2.99 was made up of 14 , 20p ,s 1 , 10p and 9 ,1p, s, I didn't complain but this cashier didn't even ask there collegue if they had any change ? I was definitely victimised , I'm a 65 year old man and I am now going to close my account because I complaind to the west Bromwich and my complaint was not upheld even though this same cashier I had 4/5 incidents with , it must be me and my custom don't matter .

bad experience at the washwood heath branch today in birmingham, went to depoist money in my account only to be met with by bad custsomer service, i was singled out of the que by the branch staff and made to feel very uncomfortable!. I was paying money in to my account and I was asked for ID and each of my notes was marked with a pen. No bodies else notes was marked in the branch. just mine. not a nice place. to viist. digusting customer service.
