Professional and careful removals service, on time, clean and polite - couldn't ask for a better service!!!

WH Cox recently carried out the removals for my house move, including storage of my goods for four months before moving in. Very efficient and helpful service both from the removal men and from the office staff.

Friendly and helpful, nothing damaged

Our move was delayed, on and off!! stress but at every stage as our needs and dates changed we were accommodated, even on the day when we were again delayed getting keys again no big fuss.

We had a few issues where the removals guys had to hang around outside our new house and they were totally understanding. Absolutely brilliant-would highly recommend.

Priced competitively with other quotes we had, Lovely couple of guys did the move. Helped with boxing the last few items. Worked tirelessly. Clean, helpful and careful. Also provided extra boxes as needed.

We moved house from Cobham in Surrey to Lymington in Hampshire in the Summer 2014. I got four removal quotes from local companies and one from a Lymington firm. My first choice was Luxfords of Weybridge but they unfortunately were at full capacity the week that we required. My next choice was W H Cox of Bookham. The following is the schedule we agreed:-
Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th May: Pack and load non-essential items into store, hold until 2nd June. (2 lorry loads)
Friday 30th May: Load lorry with essential items, hold overnight for delivery on 31st. (1 lorry load)
Please note that you would need to find alternative accommodation overnight.
Saturday 31st May: Deliver essential items loaded on 30th to Lymington. (1 lorry load)
Monday 2nd June: Deliver non-essential items loaded on 28th and 29th (2 lorry loads)

The cost of the removal was just shy of £5000.00.

Three young men arrived on time on the first day. The first couple of hours went by without a hitch. This was soon to change however! My wife & I were relaxing in the rear garden when we heard an enormous crashing sound. Oh dear I said to my wife 'that sounds ominous'. We went to find out what the cause of the noise had been to find to our horror that one of a trio of expensive lounge wall units was pretty badly smashed. This had resulted because they had not followed a very basic removal rule. When you move any large wardrobe or unit firstly empty the contents totally and place at least one securing web strap around the item to hold it tight together and also to help with it's handling. My wife had not long before told them that the bottom 3 drawers of this 7 feet high unit contained old VHS tapes which were heavy. They had not only omitted to empty these drawers but had not 'webbed up' the unit either!! As they struggled to get out of the front door the drawers had shot out with such force that it ripped them off their metal runners and this then caused the glass doors, cocktail cabinet section and shelving to collapse. Part of the front frame cracked right through. I was devastated to say the least as this was part of a trio of high quality expensive matching units. I was disappointed that they had quickly moved the busted drawers with all of their contents away from the accident area in a lame attempt to disguise what part of the cause had been!! After this I was a bit on tenterhooks. The rest of the move was not without incident - some ceramic pots were broken having dropped out of the bottom of the packing box and one of the removal men was using very bad language and became quite outwardly aggressive on a number of occasions which was unpleasant.
I was pleased with the driver who made a good job of manoeuvring the lorry into an awkward location at our new house.
A couple of items mysteriously vanished never to seen again, principally the top half of an expensive slate and metal garden water feature. The bottom half made it but without the top part was it was useless - I am guessing this was broken and never mentioned to us which is bad form. All of a wardrobe's shelves never made it either but that was easy to put right. I made a claim for the display unit and the fountain but of course the recompense received only partly softened the upset and inconvenience.

So if you have made the effort to read this, you may decide on balance, you want to choose a different removal company because I certainly cannot recommend W.H.COX & SON REMOVALS INCORPORATING LAWRENCE ASTRIDGE REMOVALS - they left a awful lot to be desired!!

UPDATE: I am extremely surprised to have just received today 14/10/2024 a response to my post some 10 years after submitting it to Trustpilot!!!
I wonder if they have new owners who are keen to exhonorate themselves of what was a shambolic job that has long stayed in my memory.
