We had an amazing trip to Nepal with Active Adventures. The guides were excellent and everything was very carefully taken care of! The trip met our expectations and was an epic experience. The pre trip process, help and support was also excellent. We are looking forward to traveling with company again soon!!
We had great expectations for this trip, as it had been highly recommended to us by friends - and we were not disappointed! Absolutely everything was exceptional - the routes, the accommodation, the food - and, particularly, our two guides Danni and Maddi. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they went out of their way every day to make sure we were all having the best time.
Over the two weeks, we visited more of the South Island than we could ever have seen on a self-guided trip and, literally, every day was a highlight - Arthur's Pass, Pancake Rocks, West Coast Wilderness Trail, Franz Josef Glacier, Lake Waneka, Gibbston Valley, Arrowtown and Queenstown, Cruising on Lake Wakatipu, Milford Sound, Routeburn Track, Central Otago Trail, Alps to Ocean Trail, the night at Braemar sheep station and the wonderful hike up to Mueller Ridge to view Mount Cook.
And along the way, there were so many stops for excellent coffee, pies and ice creams!
There's no better way to see a country than from a bike and all the routes were stunning - not too challenging, and there was always the option to ride on the bus - but we never did, covering about 400km over 11 days of cycling. And the 3 days of walking were great too.
Just a wonderful trip - not cheap, but worth every penny (or cent)!
Great itinerary, great guides, great activities.
We just got back from the Kiwi trip. It was fantastic. Our guides, Emma and Ellie, were fabulous. We are in our 60's, and were with a few that were in their seventies. The hikes were not that difficult, and all were optional. I could have done without the free day in Queenstown, too touristy, but that is just me. Others enjoyed it. All the food was excellent.
The Kiwi Trip is an excellent choice for active folks in their 50s & 60s and possibly 70s. It is a seamlessly planned trip around the south island with just the right amount of activity including numerous 7-9 mile hikes (highlight is the summit of the Routeburn Tract), a cruise of Milford Sound with A plus accomodations at Milford Sound Lodge, a vineyard tasting in the Marlborough district, well executed planned stops in the van including short hikes and leg stretches to enjoy the scenery and last but not least, amazing meals (truly remarkable dining in often remote areas). I was extremely happy not to be driving the hairpin curves of the roads (not to mention on the wrong side too) and could relax and visit with others in the group. I have done numerous adventure trips (incl. Peru and Patagonia) and can definitely include Active Adventures on my favorite list. They know what they are doing and have every detail planned. Loved the little surprises that Kim and Astrid included such as a bottle of champagne at the summit of the Routeburn tract! Many thanks for an amazing time!
As a part-time guide with U.S based adventure travel company, I have high standards for the companies I select for my personal travel. Active Adventures met and exceeded my expectations in the pre-trip planning, information provided, and especially in the trip itself. Our guides were well prepared and able to meet the needs of all individuals in our group.....and they did it with grace and ease. I would not hesitate to recommend Active Adventures to anyone planning an Adventure travel trip. They are a top-level travel company!
This was such a special trip because Active Adventures runs a top-notch operation, with professional, engaging, thoughtful, informative guides. The planning is seamless and thorough, communication excellent, and nothing left to chance. I highly recommend it.
My husband and I have traveled with Active Adventures twice. Their tours are excellent. The guides, the activity level, the itinerary, the food, the accommodations are all top notch. We feel completely safe and well-cared for with this travel company. I have no reservations recommending them to all who like this kind of travel.
This is a reputable, trustworthy company that exceeded our expectations with our trip with them to the south island to New Zealand. The guides were wonderful and every detail was handled efficiently. We were able to stay at locations (like Milford Sound) where it is very difficult to secure hotel rooms. Our group was small (10 people for half our trip, and 8 for half of the 14 days), so there was plenty of personal attention. The guides made several of the meals or made arrangements in advance so there was minimal waiting around at restaurants. Since it was a hiking trip (and we went on some wonderful and beautiful hikes) I thought I'd lose weight. The food was so good and plentiful, I actually didn't lose a pound! We had a great time--of course the beauty of New Zealand was a huge part of this, but Active Adventures was great.
We had a superlative trip with Active Adventures on their Weka trip on New Zealand’s South Island. We were a “closed” group of friends who knew one another well and had cycled and travelled together before. Our three AA guides were half our age but were terrific in all respects: fun, knowledgeable, entertaining, patient and hard working. The route was excellent (hey, that’s New Zealand), but the guides made the difference between a good trip and a great one.
This was our second Active Adventure trip and it lived up to its predecessor! I have found Active guides are the perfect combination of friendly, safety conscious and fun. They are also well versed in the local geography, flora and fauna. We hope to use them for future trips!
Ok here goes...One week in the North Island and two weeks in the South Island (of New Zealand).
We had incredible guides/leaders on both of these trips! They were organized, knowledgeable, entertaining and responsible.
The company itself, Active Adventures (spoken with a Kiwi persons accent of course, ha ha) is super organized and is really a top notch organization! It's very, very well run! This was our first "all inclusive" adventure and boy oh boy was it worth it. I don't have any complaints except that I came back 10 lbs heavier than when I left! YIKES! (I know...my fault) The food was delicious, most of it prepared by our young guides. There were always snacks, water and fruit on the bus when we were traveling to our next destination. I especially enjoyed Annika and Josh in the north island trip and Maya and Tess in the south island trip. Why?......BECAUSE THEY WERE OUR GUIDES ! ! ! ! ! You will TOTALLY love this trip!
Excellent way to see and experience the highlights of the South Island, from Nelson Lakes National Park to Milford Sound, back country hiking, sea kayaking and mountain biking plus time to explore Queenstown and smaller towns and local sights. Average to good condition necessary to enjoy activities to the fullest.
Having stopped raving about Nick, Elder and Active Adventures since returning home. A perfect way to explore and see the beautiful South Island of New Zealand.
I. I could say trip of a lifetime and it is true, but this was extraordinary. We toured the South Island in a small companionable fun interesting group with outstanding guides, providing colorful and useful insights to whatever our daily adventure brought. I felt far from the crowds and yet saw all the great sights in a unique “active” way.
Excellent experience with Active Adventures on the South Island of New Zealand. The itinerary was well thought out, the hiking wonderful, lodgings had wonderful views of the landscape, and the guides were kind, attentive and very knowledgeable.
The NZ Tui trip with Active Adventures is the perfect way to discover and dive into the incredible beauty of the South Island while enjoying all kinds of awesome activities: hiking of course, but also biking, canoeing and of course flying, boating and so on. You can go at your own rhythm, the food, accommodations and transportation are taken care of, and the wonderful guides are very knowledgeable about the culture and history of NZ. In depth discovery... incredible adventure!! Highly recommended. I loved and can’t wait to go back!
Active Adventures plans and executes trips in extraordinary style!! I have been on two Active trips in the past year; one to the Dolomites and one to the New Zealand South Island. Both were amazing; well planned with upfront details and communication; small group size; full active packed days dawn to dusk; incredible meals (most staff cooked in NZ and delicious!); nice, comfortable accommodations; great exposure to the local areas.
Best of all are the trip staff. They are energetic, full of knowledge, flexible to meet your every need...and tons of fun!! They really love their jobs and become part of the tour family.
I am already thinking about my next Adventure!!
I travelled four tours with Active Adventures so far, two in New Zealand, and two in South America. All of which not only enriched my horizon, but also gave me good experiences. Contacting personnels at Active's New Zealand HQ are very friendly and prompt when asking questions. Their tour guides are all local, who are very knowledgable and helpful both during and after the tours. I'm specially impressed with their good communications before, during and after the tours.
It was a "WOW!!" from the hotel greeting to the airport farewell. The guides exceeded expectations every day with their area knowledge, hospitality (amazing home cooked meals for the whole group!), friendliness, patience, and attention to details. The itinerary was busy, fun and flexible. Jo and Andy are guides extraordinaire and the whole adventure was world class!
