Unbelievably bad claims process. Never again. No extended warranty is worth having to get pre-authorized when the vehicle is at the repair facility and then being on hold and dropped 3x.

This company works with Car Shield, this company does not pay claims and comes up with reasons to not pay a claim. After reviewing my contract nothing is mentioned about sensors not being covered especially the DPF sensor. It only states that it is not covered if removed or modification. My sensor was just normal wear and simply need to be replaced.
Now I had to pay 641.xx dollars out of my pocket that I did not have.
Do better for the dealerships that try to work with you guys. Powertrain claims take FOREVER and the claims process just sucks!! Customers are without their vehicles for weeks and the dealerships are the ones that have to deal with the upset customers.
Car shield and American auto shield You will make you jump through an insane amount of run around. Nothing is ever really covered you always pay out of pocket. And also prepare to not have your vehicle for weeks. You’ll get a rental but still pay a portion of it. Not worth it. Customer service from both Car shield and American is horrible. Update I had another horrible experience they just lost a law suit were they need to pay due to false advertisement. My engine is not covered even though the advertisements say they are. I have all service records nothing I caused or could've prevented the engine failure and now I'm stuck with the bill no resolutions. they will find loop holes and ways to get out of paying any amount of money. Just false promises and misleading advertising. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. BBB
Where to even begin? Approximately 6 months ago I elected to take a chance and sign up with Car Shield. Quite frankly, I was surprised that they insured my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, which still looks like it's in showroom condition (because I have kept it in a garage for 22 years). But it was a stiff price at $139 a month, but I figured if something major goes wrong, I'd be out of alot more.
Well, sure as the sun rising each morning, my transmission went bad 6 months later and I took it to my local AAMCO Transmission where I live - and they accept Car Shield.
Now here is where the rat race began. To begin with, during week one, Car Shield was supposed to send out an adjuster to evaluate my transmission to make sure what AAMCO says was wrong, is true. But the adjuster never came, so we tried again the following week (we're now at week 2). The adjuster finally came, and seconded the fact that the transmission was gone - so all of us thought, OK, this should be it.
Then they (Car Shield) waited another 4-5 days before requesting some additional photos of the drop pan and oil - OK, so now we're at 2.5 weeks (and my vehicle has been sitting there for this long).
Finally they approved the transmission repair/replacement, but they didn't want to pay the money for AAMCO to order a transmission from their source. Rather, Car Shield told them that they were sending a transmission - which took another week.
So as of this writing (labor day weekend), the transmission finally arrived, but it will be another few days before they test and install the factory rebuilt one - now it's a month!!!!!
So my car had been sitting outside (covered with bird crap) for a month (not AAMCO's fault, as they had to play along with Car Shield). My cost was the $250 deductible as per my policy, plus an offset of what AAMCO charges for labor and what Car Shield was willing to pay (remember, the insurance company will always look for the cheapest route to go). So my total out-of-pocket cost was $694.
In the end, I saved around $3500-$4000, which is not bad at all. But it was the run around, the constantly having to wait, etc., that soured the entire experience for me, so I'm currently torn over it all.
Now it's important to note that Car Shield will want all service records of your vehicle. Since I do my own oil changes (Mobil 1 synthetic only), and my friend, who is a retired Ford Mechanic, doing my transmission fluid changes, I didn't have anything official to show them. So I had to provide what I did in letter format - which they accepted. They (Car Shield) do check to make sure your fluids haven't been ignored (i.e. sludge in the engine), because if they see that you've abused/ignored vehicle maintenance on your car, they won't cover anything.
As for a car rental, Car Shield did pay for 2 weeks (no more than 14 days) of a car rental, but beyond that, you have to pay for a rental out of your own pocket (which I did). So that was another $376 out of my pocket because of the amount of time it took for Car Shield to approve and send a replacement transmission.
So is it worth it to me? I've got mixed emotions on this one. After all, even though it took almost a month to get a final decision, I didn't have to eat the cost of a transmission, which was a huge load off my mind because I'm a senior citzen on a very limited retirement income.
I'm still sticking with Car Shield, but I just hope that in the future, I don't fall victim again to the same delayed response times.
You must fight for repair.
As a repair shop, American auto shield makes you fight for your customer, they will not pay proper rates as determined by standard industry guidelines but offer arbitrary lesser amounts. You have to fight to get them to pay a reasonable amount. We will not accept American Auto Shield at our facility. Do not recommend.
I have paid into this program for years. I have never had a claim. I broke down on vacation and my truck is over 300 miles from my home. My truck was serviced by the dealer with an oil change and tires rotated before I left. My vehicle is always maintained and garage kept. The repair facility does not agree with your results.
American auto shield is a waste of time I've paid my warranty up had it for 5 years haven't use it in a very long time soon as I had some problems with my car needed a new engine they denied the claim stating that the 2 parts on my engine wasn't covered I need my ac fixed they denied that also so you mean to tell me you pay all your hard working money for them to deny your claim the adjuster don't have a clue of nothing these people take your money and will not fix anything I was told that I have a lot of coverage on my ac that was a lie I've done paid 4000 and some into this warranty and still have another year to go but they won't fix anything that's listed in the contract these people are horrible I wish I've never signed up with them people please look some where else because these people will not fix anything that goes wrong with your car but I will be getting me a lawyer to look into this because this is not right they should not be in business claims # 2474739

American Auto Shield (formerly CarShield) is a horrible, horrible service. Avoid them at all costs! I have paid almost $7000 over four years to them, and I have had only one claim (before today) that paid approximately $600. Now I need a new air compressor, and my dealer won't take CarShield/American Auto Shield anymore because American Auto Shield insists on shipping in outside parts, which they cannot use, and they are so difficult to deal with. Therefore, I called American Auto Shield on Thursday to find out who takes them in Memphis. American Auto Shield recommended the shop where I took my car Thursday evening, and now American Auto Shield only wants to pay $671 of a $1700 covered claim! American Auto Shield says they won't pay more than this because the shop doesn't take outside parts. American Auto Shield absolutely KNEW THIS before they recommended the shop because this shop does regular business with them. They should NOT have recommended this shop to me since they know they don't take outside parts! If I now take my car somewhere else, then I will have to pay the labor costs for the diagnosis work at the shop where my car is now. This is a deceptive business practice and it is infuriating to have paid this much money and not be covered as promised. I will be leaving multiple bad reviews everywhere possible. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!!! Also, when I got a representative on the phone, I was cut off and had to start all over again with waiting to get th rough. They should have called me right back. They have my phone number. You are much better off to save the money that you would pay them in premiums and pay yourself every month. Create a savings account for car problems, but DO NOT sign up for American Auto Shield!
Truck needed a new engine costing $17,000. Car shield denied the claim and paid for nothing. Do not believe the positive reviews they are most likely made up. This insurance is a complete waste of time and money.
They spent 3 weeks trying to deny the claim, then when they did agree to pay, they tried to put in inferior parts and refused to pay the taxes.
Horrible company.
The adjuster claims continously use caused timing tensioner and guides to fail after the vehicle has been in the shop for 2 months and 90 percent of the time The shop was waiting on the adjusters. I will no longer recommend this company. If you say you will provide a service you must honor it the just as I did for my past 16 years in the Army defending our country. I am very concerned and disappointed on how this company tries to make it the customers fault since they drove to the repair facility.
Had a leaking oil pan. My dealership worked with Auto Shield, and my claim was approved with no hassle. Was kept in constant contact with Auto Shield on my claim status. Couldn’t be happier with their service!
They cancel authorizations for towing. They advertise with Vivica A. Fox, Ice T and other famous actors that as long as you take your vehicle to an authorized service location who accepts Car Shield, if it is a covered part you are only responsible to pay your deductible. This never happens and the cost is always so much higher for covered part. It is a total scam how American Auto Shield, as the third party administrator for CarShield play with words and terminology to attempt to justify auto ship parts as a non participating dealership charges. This dollar amount is then added to your deductible but the difference will be paid as long as the repair is deemed covered under your active policy.
I am disappointed as many repair shops in VA will not work with Car Shield. Car Shield doesn’t pay the listed price for labor as stated in the policy. They pay an estimated dollar amount based on US National Labor Guide which is very inaccurate leaving the customer with charges in addition to your copay.
After purchasing my extended warranty thru Key Vehicle Resources, I took my vehicle to a repair facility after a couple months and provided records of what had been done to my vehicle at previous repair facilities . American Auto Shield declined the claim for my repairs saying that my vehicle had pre-existing conditions even tho the other repair facilities noted that vehicle was working fine and nothing was wrong. I even tried to dispute the decision and they never got back to me about the decision, they also wanted me to provide more documents to see if they would be able to overturn the decision. After I submitted the documents they wanted, they still said that the claim was still canceled due to pre-existing conditions. i had my vehicle at the repair facility for about two months to see if they would over turn the decision and not once did they call the repair facility or call me about what was going on.
They take forever to process your claim and expect you to foot the bill for the rental, as they only cover 7 days. They then allowed their appraiser to lie to me and tell me that the part would be delivered in 5 days. I spoke with the mechanic, who said the work would be done in 1 day, so this should have worked for me. I went and got the rental based on that information. Since then, they called me and said that the shipping will take longer, but they will not cover the rental for a longer period because the repair is not covered in the contract. I understand contracts, so I get it, but as a customer, giving a 1-star review is deserved for what I have had to put up with this service and what its going to cost me out of pocket.
