Blue Horizon have been offering Canadian Private Blood Test referrals to Dynacare locations in Ontario, since 2012. As of November 2022 we have been able to also offer bloodwork within Manitoba. Our dedicated and professional service ensures all referral paperwork to the laboratory - you book the appointment according to the guide pages for each province, and we follow up results for you, providing our own GP comments if needed. This is an integrated pathology service and doesn't rely on DIY postal blood test kits.

I recently took a series of blood tests at this lab, including one for free testosterone, which I specifically paid for separately. However, instead of conducting a full-fledged blood test, the lab calculated the free testosterone level using a mathematical formula based on the results of the other tests (total testosterone and SHBG). While this is a common estimation method, it is not the same as directly measuring free testosterone through more accurate techniques like equilibrium dialysis or ultrafiltration.
Since I paid separately for this test, I expected an actual blood measurement, not an estimation based on existing data. This was disappointing and felt misleading. Labs should clearly specify when a result is calculated rather than directly measured, especially when it’s billed as a separate test.

We sincerely apologise for any confusion regarding the nature of the free testosterone test. You're absolutely right to expect clarity, and we acknowledge that it wasn’t clearly stated on our website that the free testosterone value is calculated, rather than directly measured, using an established formula based on total testosterone and SHBG levels.
This calculation method, typically based on Vermeulen’s equation, is widely used in clinical practice and considered reliable for most purposes.
However, we fully understand your preference for a direct assay and regret that this distinction wasn’t made clearer at the point of purchase.
We are actively reviewing our website content to ensure all future patients are fully informed about the methodologies we use.
I have looked into the refund for you and can see that this has been done.

This whole process was fast and efficient. I found Blood Tests Canada online and ordered a blood test, paid for it and was immediately emailed a requisition. I took the requisition to the nearest lab and had a blood sample taken. The next morning I had my results.

Requesting form verification time too long…
This was my 2nd time taking blood test at Dynacare with the lab request form from Blood Test Canada. I had to wait extra time (around 10 minutes extra each time) to get my requisition form verified and processed. I could my name being the next one (one minute) but kept seeing late comers getting the serviced ahead of me

Extremely efficient !
My experience with this process was extremely easy and helpful and very fast. The website is easy to use and when I used the question box to ask a question before I ordered my tests, the question was answered immediately. I'd definitely use them again. My results came the next day even though they said it could take up to 4 days.

The test was easy to do and I received…
The test was easy to do and I received my results quickly. However the Vitamin C test indicated no specimen was provided, so unsure if a urine sample should have been done? Disappointed as I paid for a test I did not have run, but I guess those are the chances one takes when they pay out of pocket.
