New customer general overview

The quality of the goods that i have tried are good, especially the prawns and sausages. Jake the sales manager was and is professional and works with you to get what you need. Delivery could do with a tracker so you know when and where and not turn up mid service. wrong and damaged items are often picked by the ickers at the depot (focus is needed to raise their game)

using as a catering supplier for 2 years

using as a catering supplier for 2 years

lettuce - regularly infested with pests, rotten, dirty
herbs - dirty, arriving half rotten/wilted
packaged cheese - moldy on day of delivery
onions - rotten and old 9 times out of 10, variety doesnt seem to matter
dried chickpeas - 10% black, rotten chickpeas

the website is also a huge f*ing pain to use. I really dont need a popup blocking my screen offering to connect me to a chatbot every single time i log in, usually mid-scroll. The details given are often lacking or inadequate. Few items are photographed in any way thats helpful, representative or informative. The vegan/vegatarian/halal signage is incomprehensive and confusing (an item description saying it is one thing, but lacking the equivalent icon by the item name. or vice-versa)

do not use brakes rewards to buy any equipment or electrical items, the after sales customer service is terrible and they buy items from non nominated suppliers, where the manufacturer does not honor the 2 year warranty on the items since brakes rewards buy there stuff for the brakes rewards items from dodgy suppliers

lack of responsibility

In December 2025, I found a piece of hard plastic measuring over 1 cm in one of the desserts provided by a local restaurant. I contacted the restaurant, and they informed me that Brakes supplies the desserts.
I then reported the incident to Bury Council. An officer collected the object and advised that it would be sent to the supplier. However, in their response, the supplier stated that they have not received the object and wrote the following:

Based on the pictures provided and the size of the foreign body we do not believe that this originate from our
site.
Their response demonstrates a lack of responsibility and accountability regarding the matter. Had a child or an elderly person consumed this, it could have caused serious harm or worse.The experience has been extremely traumatic for me. Since then, I have been unable to order food or eat out. I have only ordered online once, and even then I ate it with significant stress and anxiety.

Why not to use Brakes EVER

Absolutely horrible. Hair inside food, Ants inside food, absolutely everything you don't want. Everybody in the school and my son is in calls it slop because it really is. Paying for such an abomination is ridiculous but yet I find myself still paying every year. It is so bad that they should pay me and be shut down by the health department. Apparently sometimes the cakes have a rubbery taste which is understandable for the low budget standard of this company. Lots of students in my son's school get food poisoning from the poor food from this company. The bins overflow. Everybody has a different reason why to hate Brakes. They also pay absolutely no attention to allergies as they add everything that does not fit together and the kitchen where their food is made is probably contaminated with everything. I sometimes think Brakes serves food that is oozing all over the plate. When they make improvements they are tiny and are not what they should improve. They try to be as horrible and diabolical for children as possible as if they are in the army. My child will always be haunted by the name of Brakes for the rest of his life. How dare they serve such slop! One sniff and you might already throw up. Always bring water to wash away the unpleasant sensation on your taste buds. I will not be suprised if their next menu option is roasted splinters with soil sandwiches. But this is not the worst part. It somehow gets even worse (which I cannot believe). Whenever there is a school trip, they serve revolting sandwiches which are so unbearable that it is never ever ever even touched due to its toxic taste. Overall I would suggest for Brakes to drastically improve their chewed up meals and whenever you are about to pay for a school just stop and ask what school lunch company they use and you will be saved from tasting hell.

Sad state of affairs i must say.

The company take you on promising great prices then change the plan unless you spend a lot of money with them. They delete the discounts promised and change reps and telesales so many times that they to me are not worth using.

Reliable company and great customer service

I had a very good experience with Brake.co.uk. The website is easy to navigate, the prices are competitive and the delivery arrived on time. The product was exactly as described and well packaged. Customer service was also quick to answer my questions. I would definitely use them again.

Brakes did reach out, they are trying to fix the problem and have offered a credit on our account.
Thank you. I wasn't expecting that.

Was shocked to discover the ordering number for Brakes is a premium number - After paying £30 in phone bill for 25 minutes on the phone trying to set up my account. Absolute disgrace charging customers premium rates to call.

Inconsistent, Unprofessional, Not Trustworty

Items on orders missing on delivery for the 5th time in 4 months. When we called complain we are told it’s our fault we didn’t inform them of their mistakes. Some food items not fit for using in the kitchen (e.g the driest dough balls ever). People not getting back to us from head office. Avoid at all possible cost.

Absolutely shameful treatment.

Absolutely shameful treatment from Brakes. Loyal customer of several years. I choose to pay by card as it's easier for me. For some reason my payment failed after an on screen message telling me it was successful and subsequent email. The first I heard of it was a final demand threatening legal action a few weeks later and my account being blocked. I phoned and explained that I wasn't comfortable trusting that it had failed as I had received success messages and wanted to wait until statement was received, but if it had would pay that day (which I did). When I went to pay as I said I would, I found they had referred it to a debt recovery agency! I asked to complain and received a pack of lies about multiple attempts to contact me etc. All untrue.

Never use Brakes, the worst responding company

brakes is one of the worst companies I have Dealt with, I have started a new business and was recommended to use them as a supplier which I hope no one else ever does. they set up direct debit and did not notify me then asked me to make a bank transfer, after I realised they charged me twice for the same amount this was in the thousands, as I am a small company I have asked for them to refund me. I have called every day for 2 weeks and no one is able to help the manager says they are unavailable every day twice in 2 days she was not able to answer the phone and give me an update, this is very poor and unprofessional from the credit control team and probably the worst company to work with. I have asked for the update and this was that they need another approval after 2 weeks meaning I will be waiting a whole month for this, as a small bushiness it is very hard to manage without the fund you need especially funds that belong to your business, I will definitely not recommend any businesses to use brakes for such terrible support and update and this is very bad they promise to update but do not do anything and the wait time on the phone is 45 min everyday and then no u[date just we will try and speak to managers who are never available, I have only asked to get the money I am owed back sent to my account, if you are thinking about using brakes don't unprofessional, untrustworthy and absolutely terrible

lousy service

Order placed(£2300) booked delivery slot 900-1030 due to traffic restrictions, delivery time confirmed, Delivery day driver turned up said order too big to deliver as restrictions in place, told them to come to barrier and would get the in, he walked to the Restaurant swore at the women saying delivery too F..ng big as its 2 f..ng big cages, i turned up told him how to get to site then walked off saying i was abusive to him, so he can swear at women but turns tale when a bloke turns up.

Shark practices and unfair trading

Wow! I thought it was maybe just me receiving a comedy service from these clowns. I’m currently collating evidence of unfair trading by Brake’s and will be taking these findings to the CMA. I’d advise anyone else to insist on emails from them and question why prices on their products can go up at as much as 50% week after week in some cases We challenge them regularly, a ridiculous excuse is plucked from the air, a couple of weeks later we start the merry go round again. It’s their MO. Shame, because some of their products are very good.
