Cars are filthy. Sometimes they smell like dog urine, but almost every car I've had is covered in animal hair.
For the high cost they charge, they should clean their cars more often.

cars are very dirty from inside, feel vomiting to see the dirty car seats and hairs all over the place and seats. we tried 4 cars,all cars were in same bad condition.
it wasted our money and ruin whole day and plans

Horrible Horrible Horrible... between cars showing up on the map and actually not being there, cars being parked (not in use) which you cant see on the map, people leaving cars in backyards and communauto doesnt do anything and the CONSTANT low fuel and non existant windshield washer fluid communauto is GARBAGE. You want to get around without a headache? Get a bike, take the bus, or better yet close your eyes and hop onto a magic carpet. You'll get there faster. DISGRACEFUL company

I would give 0 starts if I could. Dealt with Alexiy their loyalty person. has 0 interest to listen to you. I got a parking ticket that was wrong, I took photos to prove i can park there. sent photos , parked right under a sign parking for commuanauto allowed. they still wouldnt fight my ticket or cancel the charge , spent half a day on the phone with them. this is the second time they wrongfully charge me. they are cheap because they always overcharge you. DO NOT RECOMMEND

This company has horrible customer service and an
even worse website. I signed up a couple of years ago but have only been able to use it a handful of times because it is impossible to find a car from their website. This last time was the limit. I tried to find a car for 2 weeks from the day I was on the website and instead it went ahead and booked me a car for that very moment. The dates on the calendar that I thought I was booking kept confirming I had the correct date but were not the dates it booked. That wasn't so bad and was only $4.50 so I thought I would take the hit. I then tried to sign up for a better service level having been told that it would allow better booking options for me. Instead it didn't even give me a chance to review the booking and charged me 45.00 that moment and wouldnt let me cancel the charge or my account until I pay this fee from. This is BS. I tried calling but I was on hold for an hour and a half at least for each time so I just hung up. I suggest you don't go near this website if you don't want to get robbed.I also sent 2 complaints to them almost a month ago and weeks ago and they just don't answer you.

Coming from Zipcar and Turo, my experience with Communauto so far has been a nice change of pace and a total pleasure. Flex cars are amazing. Totally recommend.

The company has one of the worst customer service ever. Weeks without getting an answer, unclear rules. A car bumped in me while I was parked, snd not only they ask me to pay, but they don't answer my messages. And since you pay a 500 dollars deposit when you inscribe your service, they have got the upper hand. Take a look at the other reviews, and you will know.

Awful customer service, and no cars available ever. This is the biggest waste of money I've ever experienced in terms of car sharing services.

And when you actually have problems that need to be resolved no one is available to speak to you. They actually seem to avoid you, as some of the problems can lead to them charging you ridiculous penalties.

Awful company. I highly recommend that no one spend money in this, and if you do, sign up for the shortest amonut of time possible so you can see how bad it is (they won't let you cancel early for longer term sign ups, even when you're literally unable to book any cars because they never have any available)

I was trying to sign up for Communauto but the website kept saying they couldn't verify my credit card despite my card having multiple 0$ charges from Communauto. I contacted them via email on September 24th and after receiving no answer, I wrote a second email on October 13th. I just got an "answer" yesterday, that consists of a non helpful copy-paste of their "how to sign up", answering none of my questions. If I have to wait a whole month for an answer just to sign up, imagine what would happen if I needed assistance while paying for their services, on the road or in need of a car. Perhaps they should up their customer service because right now, from what I'm also seeing in these reviews, it's non-existent.

Je me suis fait arnaqué plus de 500€ sur le site. Je me suis inscrit pour l'année en payant 500€ de frais, qui étaient censés être remboursables en cas de désistement. Leur service était tellement compliqué à utiliser (leur site internet de réservation sort tout droit des années 90), que j'ai arrêté et demandé le remboursement des 500€.
Ils m'ont dit qu'ils pouvaient me rembourser seulement dans un an. Un an plus tard, je reviens vers eux, et pas de réponse. Je les contacte plusieurs fois, et ils ne me remboursent pas.

Une horreur, leur service client. Fuyez !

(montreal) I rarely write reviews but wanted to write this one as I see there's so many bad reviews on Communauto that I want to share my experience. For starters, I used Communauto back in 2021 for 2 weeks as I was having car problems, everything went fine. Fast forward to now. I sold my car last month and was contemplating using Communauto again, since I had not sent the proper documents back then, my account was frozen. I came here to check reviews and it really discouraged me to use the service, so I told myself I would find another way (didn't feel like getting charged wrong amounts and always having to call them, etc.). Anyhow, I don't remember why I chose to move forward with them, but next thing I know, I'm calling them to reactivate my account, I figured I would at least give it a try. When I first called, they answered within 20 minutes, once I got the line, I sent her my documents and everything was fixed within barely a minute. I decided to not go with a subscription, but I did get the Flex Pass (50$ for 20 rides of 30 mins for one month). Up to this day, I've used 12 of them and I once reserved a round-trip car for a full day. So let me tell you how it went :

Access to flex cars : It depends, during weekends FORGET IT, unless it's really early in the morning. During the week, it's been fine up to now, I don't always have a car when I want one, but it happened more often that I did than not, most often, they are in a 10 minute walk range.

Access to round-trip cars : hard to say as I only reserved once, it was for a friday all day and I reserved a week in advance, the closest one was 30 mins walk away, so I guess it's best to plan in advance (2 weeks of more) especially for those weekend days.

Cleanliness : Almost all the cars I used were fairly clean and smelled neutral or good. I had one car that smelled like cat urine, it was bad. Overall, on the 13 cars I hired, only one was bad.

Clientele service : So I had to call at two different occasions. First one was to activate my account like mentioned above. Second was in relation to the round-trip car I had reserved. Long story short, when I unlocked the car, the doors didn't unlock, so what I did is I cancelled my reservation and re-reserved the same car. Two things happened : I was charged for the cancellation, and also, I did a mistake when I rebooked and wrote the wrong time (11am instead of 11pm) and so I was charged a fee for bringing the car back late (40$). They even called me at 5pm saying that someone was waiting for the car, but it was voicemail as I missed the call. Anyhow, I called today to get reimbursed the cancellation fee, and was hoping they would cancel the late fee too, but my hopes were not high. I waited 1h30 on the line, I almost hung up to write them an email instead, but someone took the line. The call lasted 2 minutes, I told her what happened, and she cancelled both fees. So overall, waiting time is bad, but from my experience the service once the waiting is done has been good for me.

Price : I find that max 12$/h and max 50$/day is good and a competitive price with other car rentals, especially considering that the gas is included. In my case, the flex pass of 50$/20trips is really worth it and pretty cheap.

Overall, my experience is good. I haven't encountered major problems so I can't talk for everyone and everything, but I'm pretty satisfied.

Reserved car for the weekend a month ago. Get to location to pick it up and head down the road, and notice the engine light comes on. I pull over and call. 45 minutes later, I am still on hold. I drive it back to the station attempted to call again, 1 hour later still on hold. I picked up the car at 11:20 AM and I attempted to get customer service for 3 hours. I even hung up and tried getting someone by using the accident line! I gave up and cancelled the reservation and took an uber home. I call again after getting home and canceling all my plans in Vermont, and finally after 45 minutes I finally get someone, who tells me that I can still drive it with the engine light on. I am then informed they will charge me for early cancellation. To which I reply I will not pay and they can cancel my membership. No customer service! Avoid if you can. Thank goodness car rentals are coming down in price!

Il change la réservation en dernière minute. Sans cellulaire, je me déplace et la voiture n'est pas là. Je dois rentrer chez moi (10 minutes de marche) pour constater dans mes courriels qu'ils ont modifiés le numéro de la voiture et le lieu ou la prendre.

Le service téléphonique est pitoyable. Il faut attendre souvent une heure avant qu'un préposé ne réponde. Il pourrait au moins mettre un système de rappel automatique.

Got them on photo! plates and code number car for dangerous driving!!2 of them in the car on their phones careless driving at one point dangerous!! They are lucky I didn't jump off the car!!

They are scammers.

They have been charging me $40 a month for the "free" plan. There is nowhere that explains where this charge is coming from. It doesn't make any sense. I moved away from Montreal and decided to keep my account in case I returned and needed a car. Big big mistake.

They are extremely slow to reply and do not care about fixing any problems. The worst company. Avoid at all costs.

Je suis un utilisateur de Communauto depuis longtemps. Il y a un vrai service client en capacité de gérer intelligemment les situations délicates : accident, retard au retour. Il suffit d’être soi-même sérieux et d’alerter pour trouver une solution. Ça tranche avec les process habituels des prestataires de services. Par ailleurs, la rapporte qualité prix est sans concurrence. Seul reproche : un parc auto vieillissant qui aurait besoin d’être renouvelé. Mais globalement un vrai service professionnel comme il n’y en a plus que rarement

Very bad experience. Previous person using the Shared Car parked in a loading zone. I activated the car rental but did not move the vehicle right away. Vehicle was towed. No support from Communauto Alberta in Calgary. Total cost for me (towing charge, parking ticket, taxi cost, etc.) over $300. I drove a total 4km from impound facility back to the City Center. Will never use them again.

They just randomly deactivated my account and provided this email when requested for a reason:

"After further review, we will not be able to activate this account as there is information on file that is associated to a previous suspended account."

I have no idea what that means. When I requested for an explanation, they provided the following email:

"We are not able to provide specific details about the information requested. The account is not eligible for reactivation."

I waited over phone for 2hrs and I could not talk to anyone!

Worst customer service ever. its impossible to get a hold of someone to fix my problem. I am still waiting for explanations on a surcharge
