What went wrong this time is the right…
What went wrong this time is the right question. Submitted a claim that was PRE APPROVED and it was denied 3 times!!!!! Finally got through but paid me $28 less than the pre approved amount. I am insured with OTIP. I am researching coverage from other companies because this one must be American based.
Do not use this company…
This company is the worst insurance provider over last couple years claims are repeatedly denied. Even with doctor filling out forms they continue to deny claims or ask for more information and deny claims regardless. They wear you down repeatedly making you resubmit claims even when you send receipts etc they deny tge claim but policy says it's covered. It's very cheap premium for the employer and if you speak to HR they refer you to contact greenshield. It appears they try to refuse to wear you down resubmitted info and still deny.
Unnecessary Barriers to Servic e
This company places obstacles in the way to accessing services in the hopes that you will give up and pay for the service yourself. Requirements that place extra burdens on family physicians to fill out unnecessary forms for drug approvals is counterproductive especially when considering the shortage of family physicians in Canada; and onerous documentation to claim basic services does not make one feel like a valued client. ARTA (the Alberta Retired Teachers Association) should seriously consider an alternate provider. The service has decreased substantially since switching to this company while the price of service has continued to go up.
These folks are criminals
These folks are criminals. Canada Life had 100% coverage for my drug, they were only paying the remainder, which was 20%, still they made me pay 75$ for a form to approve the drug to receive $25, rejected the initial request because of tiny error on the form, then after 1 month (I got the drug from my own pocket because I needed to start my treatment) they refused to pay their part but only moving forward with new requests (tiny detail on the contract)

Actually the most ridiculous company. Purchased shoes and compression socks from bioped. They sent a 6 page document requesting additional information that was already sent by Bioped and stated I had to send info or else I would get charged fully. Some Information requested was shoe colour and model number. Like seriously?
Be prepared to fight for every benefit…
Be prepared to fight for every benefit you should be entitled to. My experience has been that they deny claims, forcing me and my medical providers to appeal their decisions before being approved. My pharmacist AND dentist said they are the worst benefit provider they have to deal with.
Not happy with their services
whenever you submit a claim, it is like a fight for your basic rights and they would not spare any chance to deny it. In my most recent experience, they also provided me with wrong instructions on the phone which resulted in waste of my time! .

I noticed that people at Green Shield if that is what you want to call them they are not that educated and not normal they are trying to convince me that I made a mistake by presenting the Shopper Drug Mart original receipt and they try to make me look like a ret..... from there side I and two days later I got paid for a bill that I spend on my side. What I'm trying to say is that people on the other side (Green Shiled) they are not that educated look like to me they are people hired from the street to fill up a case and answer a phone call. I feel like an STU... when I talk to phone support from the other side they think they are always right but they are not ...How come they can deny you the original receipt.God helps..

I was extremely disappointed when your employee hung up on me and did not call me back. That’s 0 stars for customers service. I spoke with other employees in the past and they provided very helpful and polite service too bad it doesn’t apply to all.

Terrible customer service. Won’t answer all of my questions just respond as short as they can to one question rather than all of them. Then told me to call instead. But I can’t I do not have time to wait on hold for two hours for an extremely simple question to be answered. What are we paying them for????
Very poor company to get results from…
Very poor company to get positive results from. Greenshield would not approve my claim for the necessary cancer blocking medication requested by my dermatologist. He said it is the worst insuranace company he deals with. They make you jump hoops, do not readily answer phones, and require a lot of paperwork from specialists, only to rebuke the claim. Terrible and disappointing to say the least.

Payment for the basic plan is automatically deducted from our fees. There is absolutely no service and
when claims are submitted, errors are continuously being made and claims are not being paid out. Other users are correct in that you are placed on hold for 1 to 2 hours told the issue will be resolved and it is not.
Beyond frustrated and feel they are a sham organization. Even our dental manager who has been practicing for over 40 years claimed she has never seen such abyssmal service

I tried to claim the expense of my prescription glasses
I tried to claim the expense of my glasses from Green Shield Canada . I was told there are issues with this Health Service Provider that are preventing us from considering reimbursement for this claim. I tried to contact green shield but was given no help. I then contacted the supplier but I can't get a refund with a custom made prescription glasses (the picture of the glasses was also attached) which is understandable. The funny thing is that I submitted two claims on the same day. One is for contact lens with the cost of $90, the other one is for prescription glasses with the cost of $620. Green shield reimbursed the $90 claim but denied the $620 claim even though they are from the same supplier. This gives me a feeling that they denied my claim not because of the supplier, but because of the amount they are not willing to pay out of their pocket. I have been buying glasses from the same eye wear supplier for almost ten years. I never got a problem getting reimbursed before with all the other insurance companies (i.e. Canada Life, Blue Cross, etc). Starting from this year, my employer decided to switch to green shield, then everything became ridiculous. I asked the eye wear supplier, and they told me GSC is the only insurance company who denied them, and they are still arguing with GSC for the past couple of months. My friend also told me GSC refused to reimburse some prescription medicine bills because my friend didn't buy medicines from the "approved" pharmacy stores.
If you can, avoid GSC!

Since they're on strike, they have pretty much stopped processing all but basic claims. I've paid into this plan for 13years (along with all the other guys at work) now I actually need something, and they cant find paperwork, "you never sent paperwork", (even though we have shown that we've sent it multiple times). All you get is auto responses because they have no one working customer service. But according to them the entire customer service group being on strike wont affect customer service at all. If this is unaffected, then it must have been dismal before. Don't bother paying into plan, just smash out your teeth with a hammer and save the prolonged pain, because Green Shield isn't going to help you.

If you use their on-line request form, they don’t send a confirmation email and you will be waiting over a week for a response! If you are an employer looking to buy benefits for your employees DON’T PICK GREENSHIELD!
