Absolutely terrible customer service…
Absolutely terrible customer service and very misleading website. I could rant on here for a long time but I'll save the time because I've wasted too much time on them anyway. Four years ago I tried to get reimbursed for physio and eventually gave up because I was just too frustrated. A claim I submitted this week was denied because of a five year old worksafe claim on an unrelated body part, despite having a Doctor's note for the service (they claimed the note was not properly worded, though they give no indication on their website of what needs to be included to make a note valid).
Save yourself the headache and use someone else.

This company should get 0 stars. Please please please…..whatever you do….choose a better company. They have a lot of misquoted misdirected wording in their documentation that will make it so you get very little coverage. It looks shiny from the outside, but buyer beware. I signed up specifically to help my kids with dental and orthodontics. I waited the 3 years (while my monthly payments continued to go up EVERY SINGLE YEAR) for the Orthodontic benefits to start, only to find out that whatever I used for ortho in the year TAKES FROM REGULAR DENTAL! Meaning if I make $200 monthly payments to ortho, they cover the 50% which is 100/month but I will MAX OUT REGULAR DENTAL. Which means I won’t have benefits left for just plain dental coverage. So with braces on, my child won’t have access to cleanings because I will have maxed out my yearly coverage. LOW BLOW green shield. To make someone wait three years for orthodontic coverage just to tell them it counts toward their regular dental anyway. So you can only choose one that year. Braces or clean teeth.

Was with them for 2 years ,amazing how much i paid, to be exact (3792) and how less I got back with claims. (300) for that money I could have my fillings in gold. Stay away not a good choice.!
Poor customer service…
Put a claim in online and received nothing but unhelpful automated responses.
Their call centre hours means you have to call during work which is difficult when you get a phone call every 3-15 minutes.
3 weeks with no reimbursement.

If you want to annoy, disrespect and infuriate your employees
The way this company works is that they will make it very difficult / infuriating to deal when submitting claims. In the end many people just give up as its not worth their time to endlessly pursue getting paid. This is how they save companies money.
The company I work for used to have good benefits but after switching to GSC with supposedly the "same benefits" there have been nothing but complaints. What used to be covered without issue is now a huge hassle or is simply not covered. I dread having to send in claims to this company as it is always a pain.
If you want to annoy, disrespect and infuriate your employees but save a few bucks in the process this is the company to go with.

I've been with this insurance for over 6 years, and I am amazed at how expensive their premiums are and how little they pay back. It's mind blowing to think that just last year there is a difference of over $2300 between what we paid and what they approved to give back. Don't waste your money making these people richer.
Horrible Insurance Company
Horrible Insurance Company. Frustration beyond belief. Ring menus calls transferred to full answering machines . Next they extended health re home care. It won’t kick in if quote “ If the Provincial Home Care Program is not involved with registered nursing or PSW care in the home, then the request for services will be ineligible. “ pay your money get denied . Pay $489 a month premiums for zero coverage . Hip replacement is elective surgery. Ergo no assistance from Ont Home Care hence no Green Shield coverage .
I could go on but won’t .
Medical equipment hidden rules
Recently tried to claim for medical equipment prescribed by hospital doctor and occupational therapist due to a hip replacement. My claim was partially denied. Had previously contacted an agent who told me what items I could claim. When claim was processed the items prescribed by the occupational therapist were denied. Why didn’t they mention this little hidden rule when I enquired about them? Not very friendly or helpful agents.

i tried to submit a claim for a sleep apnea machine bought through amazon because it simply was the best deal for what i need the claim was denied because i paid with a gift card...my money but nope they are right and i am wrong...absolutely the worst company to deal with if you need insurance do not use them

Horrible people to deal with. Absolutely the worst benafits I’ve had in my life . They don’t cover much and it costs you dearly to have them. They Will deny you help with medications you’ve been on your entire life if you cannot meet their standards . I’ve had to do multiple blood samples for them and they still do not cover medications I’ve been on my whole life . These are not people pleasing folks mise well be talking to a robot. Ugh I’m just disgusted with the hoops
Green Shield "lost" claims
Green Shield "lost" my claim for professional services. I was able to receive reimbursement only after filing a 2nd claim for the same services AND by contacting them by phone to prompt them to pay the claim
Useless Insurance firm
Useless Insurance firm - you pay more in insurance then receive back for claims - definitely not worth it.
You have to jump thru hoops for prescript claims and as far as dental goes - forget about it - not one penny will be covered

Try to submitt a claim for Physio. I couldn't get logged in to their site.....happens every time. Phoned customer agent.....NO HELP AT ALL. Escalated my concern to management. Got some witch who wouldn't help me. Called Physiotherapist back. She told me Greenshield is the worst ever!!! Physio called Greenshield on my behalf. They told her my claim could take up to a month but there is no guarantee it will be accepted. I FOLLOWED ALL OF GREENSHIELDS RULES TO A "T". I would like to change to another company but my employer gets a good deal for staff coverage and won't change. STAY AWAY FROM GREENSHIELD IF YOU CAN.
Get another insurance company
Get another insurance company. I don't think I have ever submitted a claim, where I didnt have to do followup because of something that went wrong or was denied. They want your premium, but getting money back from them is painful!!!!!

Terrible experience with GreenShield.
This company is horrible for dental insurance. I've worked in the dental field for 40 years and I have never seen a dental Insurance company deny replacement crowns that are 20 years old. Since Covid-19 insurance companies have made a fortune on their members for the dental portion. Dental clinics were shut down for 2 months but people kept paying their premiums so a lot of $$ was made by Green Shield as they weren't paying out. Now that we are operating again they are refusing all kinds of dental treatment. Claim was backed up by dentists letter and professional opinion describing condition of the teeth and why replacement crowns were necessary after 20 years but still denied. I feel sorry for our patient who just got ripped off from this insurance company! He is stuck with a big bill now and a lame excuse from his dental plan stating they are following industry standards which is a complete lie, I know because I deal with industry standards and it’s FIVE years for replacement of crowns, bridges and dentures. No more recommending Green Shield for us.
I will tell everyone I know to stay far far away!! If you are an employer looking for a plan for your employees take my advice don’t go with GSC.
