They don’t follow their own contract. I had moved out at the end of April 2024 up until now they still didn’t give my deposit back. I had emailed them multiple times , they say it will be refunded in a couple days.
I don’t think they understand how many days is a couple days. It’s already been 6 mos. And i still didn’t get my refund. Their last email was September 3 and still the same on a couple days! Just wow! Don’t ever deal with these people😤😡
Fraud and nightmare in Edmonton Garneau Tower
In the realm of housing nightmares, Harrington Housing stands out as a champion of incompetence and unscrupulous practices. From a booking system that is nothing short of a disaster to customer service that moves at the pace of a snail, this establishment has managed to botch every aspect of the rental experience.
The reservation process was a labyrinth of frustration, with a system that seems designed to confuse rather than assist. The responsiveness of their team was abysmal, making even the simplest inquiry feel like an exercise in futility. And don’t even get me started on the payment difficulties – it’s as if they want to make it as hard as possible for you to give them your money.
The so-called ‘luxury’ accommodation I booked turned out to be a far cry from anything resembling comfort or cleanliness. The hygiene conditions were appalling, with ants marching around as if they owned the place. It’s a wonder they didn’t charge me for the ‘privilege’ of sharing my room with these uninvited guests.
The service throughout the process was a joke. I booked a deluxe room, but upon arrival, I was unceremoniously dumped into a flex-plus room. If it weren’t for my vigilance after a week of incorrect accommodation, Harrington would have happily continued to ignore their managerial responsibilities.
The deposit refund process was a nightmare. More than 21 working days and countless emails later, I’m still waiting for my money. Each department provides a different excuse, none of which hold water. The outright theft of my deposit is the cherry on top of this ruinous experience. I was charged a deposit of 870 CAD, and they have the audacity to inform me that I’m getting a partial refund of 520 CAD, without the decency to explain the arbitrary deduction.
Harrington Housing, you have shown a remarkable ability to tarnish the concept of customer service. Your lack of professionalism and disdain for your tenants’ rights are nothing short of disgraceful. I would advise anyone considering renting from you to run in the opposite direction – unless they enjoy being swindled and treated with utter contempt.

Stayed here in early September. Had a great stay. Micheal on the desk was very helpful. Anything I needed he catered to me. Room was clean. Staff checked in with me on the daily. Has a gym to use on site which is great. It’s centrally located so getting around was easy. Would highly recommend. Ask for Micheal when you do.

They exhibit a complete lack of professionalism and responsibility, consistently ignoring multiple requests. Their communication is not just poor; it’s practically non-existent. Promises are made and promptly broken, leaving partners in the lurch. If you value your time, resources, and peace of mind, steer clear of this company. Associating with them is a guaranteed mistake. Worst place to rent they do everything in reverse they take payment off you then say can't give you keys until your paperwork is verified, so if you don't have a guranter they claw your money and don't give your money. STUDENTS BEWARE not given keys to move in cancelled within in 2 hours refusing to give us deposit back .do not agree to a place until you have see it with your own eyes.
The worst service experience of my life
I rented an apartment to move in for the 14th, signed a lease, sent the holding fee, deposit, and first rent. They said I couldn't rent at the location I chose and changed it. They requested I set my arrival time on the app, I did. Ended up waiting hours outside with my heavy luggage and boxes with my friend. They say, we can't move you in today, your date is tomorrow. I take the train 2 hours to put my things back in a $200 storage unit. I book a last minute hotel room for $300. They wake me up with an email claiming they will sue me for missing the rent, and I tell them that they need to find out where they put my money. I go back to the apartment for move-in. They text, "I'll see you at 4!" I stand there until 4:45 until they text that I can't move in, the financial team lost my rent, but they might find it tomorrow. I tell them to cancel the lease and refund me immediately while they beg me not to. Absolute garbage service.

J'ai réservé une chambre à McGill à Montréal il y a maintenant 2mois. J'ai dû payer en avance les 2 premiers loyers. Lors du jour de l'arrivée, j'ai fais face à un bidonville ! Des photos trompeuses, les appartements et l'immeuble sont délabrés, les murs sont en papiers, certaines chambres n'ont même pas de murs d'ailleurs, bref les gens sont entassés dedans.
Je n'ai pas dormi dedans, c'est inadmissible. C'est un réel scam, d'autant plus que ça se voit que les gérants sont habitués et aveient l'air d'en rigoler lors de notre plainte. Bref une vraie arnaque, à éviter.

Attention arnaque
Le logement (Montréal) ne correspond absolument pas aux photos et description du site. A l'arrivée mon fils s'est retrouvé avec une chambre de 9m2 dans un état pitoyable et sale. Les WC étaient cassé et le logement ne fermait pas à clé....Son colocataire avait sa chambre dans le salon et pas de fenêtre. Nous avons du lui trouver en urgence un autre logement, il a déménagé dès le lendemain. Et ensuite il a fallu se battre pour récupérer l'argent car ils demandent 2 mois de loyer en avance ce qui est illégal au Canada. Visiblement vu les avis et l'article de La Presse paru en aout 2022 (titre des étudiants floués), la pratique est récurrente et ne date pas d'hier. C'est une honte que cette entreprise soit toujours en activité et cible particulièrement des jeunes étudiants qui débarquent de l'étranger et sont plus vulnérables.

Pet fleas in room
I have been staying with Harrington for a couple of months now, I am happy with all the free amenities and the location- it’s peaceful yet still close to almost everything!
However, I have an issue with my room (appears to be dog/ pet fleas on the carpet) and Ciara has taken the time and effort to personally treat my room a couple of times now-even on her days off. She keeps an open line of communication and has been very helpful and responsive to all other concerns and issues.

Good place, poor management
Harrington Housing downtown Toronto is where I have chosen to stay for the last year. This is my honest review of the company and place as a student:
As of late, it is obvious that they have implemented new protocols and policies in dealing with customer requests as things are getting done quicker and the staff are more friendly and patient. Specially the likes of Olga, who responds to requests in a timely manner, and provides solutions in a realistic timeline!
Lucie has also come to check on us recently and has been helpful. There are a number of other members of the staff who are helpful in their own ways and there are some who are not and are disrespectful and difficult to deal with. Unfortunately this has significantly lowered my rating for this place, customer care is a huge part of running a business and Harrington Housing have been extremely poor at it, only recently have things seemed to change, but I cannot give a 5 star review from 1 week of great service after receiving 8 months of poor service.
Overall the place is conveniently located, in and around downtown is always an amazing place to be and the location of the building is fantastic. (561 Sherbourne st)
However there are a few downsides, the building is owned by another company and Harrington uses a large number of their rooms in this large building, meaning that when an issue arises there is absolutely nothing that you or Harrington can do to fix it until the parent company gets involved.
That means requests can take 1day, 5days or 2 weeks and there is nothing that Harrington’s can do to fix it because they don’t have access to those facilities. So if you have an electrical, plumbing, or even window or door issue, you have to wait for the other company to come fix it, and you can’t even ask them on your own to come, you have to send a request to Harrington who then sends a request to the parent company. Now this seems all normal, but when the staff from Harrington do not read your messages or emails for a week and ignore your phone calls during working hours, then it becomes an issue because things need to fix in the apartment and I am doing my part to get it fixed but they aren’t, this process is extremely frustrating. However as i said in the beginning of this review, hopefully that changes soon as the staff seem a bit more reliable and helpful this Fall.
As for the rooms, you are paying less than other places downtown so expect less.
I have stayed in 3 separate units and had 3 different types of rooms so I can share my advice.
Flex plus room - if you are a light sleeper, or like privacy, sensitive to light and noise coming in the room, do NOT pick this room. This room is actually the living room of a regular apartment that they have decided to put up a fake wall to separate the kitchen and create a makeshift room. and also there are huge windows, which was my favorite part about staying in this room, nice views and lots of natural light. However, the fake wall that separates you from the kitchen is just a huge bookshelf that is not 100% sturdy and has spaces on the top, bottom and inbetween in some instances, this means that 1, you hear every single thing that happens in the common rooms and 2, all of the light from the kitchen comes into the room, for some people this won’t be an issue as they just need a place to crash at night and are heavy sleepers. However if you are looking for more privacy and are a light sleeper, DO NOT go for this one. Trust me.
In the beginning I stayed here and I had 2 lovely roommates and everyone got along, when they left to go back away, I got 2 new ones and it all went downhill, one was a racist who had 0 respect for me and my new roommate and made our lives a living nightmare. During this time, despite all of my complaints, Harrington did close to nothing to assist me, they kept saying they will get him evicted by next week, all talk and no action, they did not help. The member of staff who I was assigned to would just simply ignore my phone calls, not respond to my messages, when he came to “have a meeting with me” he simply said that in other countries, cultures are different and I should be patient with him. Try being patient with a guy who throws banana peels and makes monkey noises at you
Deluxe room - nice privacy, solid room overall, some rooms are bigger than others and some have a temperature control, it’s just luck of the draw
Master room - amazing, great privacy, your own bathroom. It’s worth the extra money
Other thoughts:
3 elevators isn’t near enough for 43 floors
Not early enough dryers and washer
Gym is way too small
Outdoor patio closes way too early in the year (sep)
The overall integrity of the company can definitely be questioned
Security is almost none existent
Recently, staff seem nice
Convenient location
Olga and Attila deserve a raise because they are the ones actually follow up and care.
