I was reluctant to leave a negative review, as I appreciate the impact this can have on a business. However, after months of trying to resolve my complaint directly with Horse Power Motor Centre, I feel I have little alternative.

I purchased my Fiat 500X in November 2025. The initial sales process was straightforward, and the service department dealt with an engine management light promptly. Unfortunately, my experience changed in June 2026 when I attempted to part-exchange the vehicle and discovered it was recorded as a Category S insurance write-off, something I do not recall being disclosed to me before purchase.

On 8 June 2026, I submitted a formal complaint raising concerns about the undisclosed vehicle history, the service reminder remaining at zero and the condition of the bonnet paintwork. I received no response, despite sending a further letter on 25 June and chasing the matter again in September.

It was not until 12 October that a director responded, claiming I had signed paperwork acknowledging the vehicle’s accident history and that the car had been serviced before collection. This conflicts with my recollection of the sale, as I was told the vehicle had no service history and that a service would cost an additional £200.

I requested copies of all paperwork bearing my signature and evidence supporting these claims, giving seven days for a response. Despite further chasing, I remain without the requested documentation or a satisfactory resolution.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, a vehicle must be of satisfactory quality and as described. I am not suggesting that a Category S vehicle cannot legally be sold; my concern is whether this material information was properly disclosed and whether I was given accurate information before purchase.

I have made repeated, reasonable attempts to resolve this matter privately, but the lack of communication has been extremely disappointing.

I would advise prospective buyers to carry out independent vehicle history checks and ensure all disclosures about previous accident damage and insurance write-off status are provided in writing before purchasing.

Your owner of the company stated in writing that it was circled on the invoice? So which one is it in capital letters at the top or circled at the bottom near the signature to say you understand? I have also asked for copies of this which have not yet been supplied? Which I find very strange as you have all of the supposed evidence but have been unable to supply any of it? I’m not disputing the amount of time I had driven the car so I’m unsure why you have highlighted this in your response? If you could reply to me in writing that would be fantastic as you have been unsuccessful in this so far.

As usual, as always, Horsepower were professional, very competent, helpful and friendly. I would happily recommend the service they provide.

I’ve been going to Horsepower for several years now. Always a great experience and real value for money service. I recently had my Volvo and my son’s Yaris serviced. They keep you informed throughout the day with informative videos. The services were rigorous and competitively priced. The excellent service starts with the guy who books you in and continues with the mechanics who work on the cars. A friend recommended them to me. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a garage they can trust.

I’ve used Horsepower for 25yrs and the great service has just better and better each year. I would highly recommend Horsepower for ALL service and repairs.

My husband and I have used Horsepower for over a decade now. Whether it is for repairs, general servicing, or MOTs, they are always fantastic on price, efficient with the work, and keep you updated throughout.

We have also purchased two cars from them in the last five years. Both have been great and have never let us down, only ever requiring routine maintenance through normal usage (like brakes and tyres, which Horsepower also carried out for us).

The whole MOT and Service process was fantastic. I especially liked receiving a video showing me the condition of the car - a really nice touch! I will definitely use Horsepower again.

Very good just took way too long. Dropped my vehicle off 8am and didnt get it back until 11am for just a MOT

4 stars out of 5. This would of been 5 stars out of 5 had the vehicle i purchased had not lose side skirt trim hanging griding noise over speed bumps slowly, upon leaving, and EML light on literally few hundred yards down the road with a DPF message on dash. However, Danny was quick, and got this sorted immediately while I was waiting, new parts, and various bits sorted before leaving 3hrs later. The Head Machanic (Harry Kane Similar look) was fantastic and his apprentice also, transparent and honest, and kept me informed and I didnt mind me asking reasonable questions. They were fabulous, and showed they cared. I thank them and Danny for making sure I left happy and well. Wether its a 2k cheapy car or 10k expensive car, should make no difference with regards to proper checking over cars before customer collects so there are no issues. A cheapy car at 2k or less could and can lead to repeat business of 10k car next time in the future. But anyway, all resolved and wouldn't be put off from buying again. Thanks Danny and the team. For over 20 years we have been looked after by Horsepower, and never had a bad experience. They have fixed other mechanics mistakes and given us realistic competitive quotes on work. We have learned over the years that loyalty pays off and there is no need to shop around. Rob and his team are probably the best in Tonbridge and surrounding area.

Helpful staff and able to give relevant information where possible.
The vehicle is in reasonable condition considering it's age with below average mileage.

Avoid – Deeply disappointing experience and poor quality control (Grey 2016 Audi A4 Avant TDI Ultra)
I purchased a manual grey 2016 Audi A4 Avant TDI Ultra from this dealership and immediately discovered severe gearbox issues. The reverse lockout mechanism was completely dysfunctional, the car refused to go into certain gears at all, and changing gear overall was exceptionally stiff and difficult. This was a blatant mechanical fault that anyone carrying out a basic pre-sale inspection or test drive would have found impossible to miss within minutes. In hindsight, the stiffness was noticeable on the test drive, but I naively put it down to not having driven a manual in a while.
Once I got the car home and gave it a proper run, the extent of the defect was undeniable. While the dealership did offer to carry out a repair, I had completely lost confidence in them. If a car leaves their forecourt with such obvious, critical transmission problems, it raises serious questions about what else was overlooked during preparation.
To their credit, they arranged collection of the vehicle and refunded my purchase price, though the money took nearly two weeks to arrive. However, their aftercare communication was essentially non-existent. The moment I brought up consequential losses—such as the over half-tank of diesel I put in and never got to use—I was met with total radio silence.
I have noticed the car has already been relisted for sale; hopefully they have actually rectified the gearbox properly this time. Based on the lack of proper pre-sale checks and poor communication, I cannot recommend this dealership.

We have used horsepower for many years for servicing our cars, so when the time came to replace our car it was the obvious choice to look for a replacement. By chance they had a car that suited our needs that had just arrived, Danny was very helpful, he got the car out and went through all of the features and let us have a test drive. We liked the car so we bought it. We went back a week later to pick it up, it had been valeted we taxed at the showroom. Buying the car was a pleasurable experience with no pressure.
