We were kept fully informed of progress throughout the procedure . Nicola Sidoli was extremely helpful and persistent in challenging the NHS trust . We were delighted with a partial repayment of Care Home fees . The matter even went to the Ombudsman and Nicola managed to overturn its original decision .

In late December of 2019 I was struck by a van and run off the road at 70mph, I sustained a traumatic brain injury and life changing vestibular injuries. What I didn’t know is that over the next 18 months the injuries would worsen and I would go on to develop post traumatic Meniere’s, a functional neurological disorder and non-epileptic jerking which left me essentially wheelchair bound.

I initially went with the solicitors my insurance company recommended however after the first 10 months I realised something wasn’t right and contacted Headway who put me into contact with Hugh James and Mark Robinson. Unlike the first experience with a solicitor, Mark took care and time with me, he listened, he was proactive from the outset. He understood what had happened and importantly he knew how to pace me, work with somebody with a traumatic brain injury and the initial and ongoing difficulties of fatigue, cognitive function and my mood swings, Hugh James and Mark gave me the support I needed.

There were many times when I felt I could not cope any longer, but with Mark’s support and guidance, we navigated 6 years of injury, litigation and life together as a team. I will always be grateful not just for his legal expertise, but for the humanity, dignity, and compassion he showed me at every stage.

As my life turned upside and my marriage broke down as is sadly all too common after a traumatic brain injury Mark became my bedrock he knew exactly how to support me which helped to manage the anxiety and stress. The legal process is far more than just the injuries, it’s a tactical game of chess, some days would leave me angry and frustrated others in tears but Mark was always there to support me, talk to me, calm me down, he knew exactly how to navigate me through the maze of legal complexity, he became a lifeline and mental support for me, facing life in a wheelchair isn’t easy and without Hugh James and in particular Mark Robinson and his team, I couldn’t have got through the past 6 years without you all, thank you. Words do not really do the services provided in our case justice. An extremely sensitive, personal and emotive case which required a caring calm collected approach. Nicola was amazing! We had given up all hope of receiving CHC Funding for my mil but Nicola felt that there was a fair chance that she could secure some funding. She attended several meetings on our behalf and was always available either by phone or email. Whatever she said she was going to do, she did and after months of negotiations finally we were awarded CHC funding! Kept us up to date with everything. Would definitely recommend Nicola.

Trying to navigate through the Continuing Health Care process is a mind field and with the help and support I received from Katie at Hugh James it certainly made the experience less painless. Katie was very professional and I was kept up to date at all times and walked through the whole process which made it feel more relaxed and seem less.

We used Hugh James in a no win no fee basis for a retrospective claim on Continuing Health care fees. My Dad had Alzheimer’s disease and other complex medical needs and was not given CHC funding whilst in the nursing home. After his death we decided it was worth trying to get the fees back that he paid from his pension.
The whole progress took about 1 year from start to finish before we were successful in the claim. It can take a time, not due to the solicitors but because of the backlog of cases needing to be dealt with by each health board.
We did everything remotely, no need to actually see the solicitors in person. Apart from providing proof of bank statements and payments and signing remotely, there was minimal effort required from our end.
The solicitors did all the back ground work and collecting evidence and efficiently dealt with everything, causing us no stress at all. The fees deduced from the successful win were very reasonable and I have no doubt that without their expertise, skills and knowledge in this field we would not have been successful if we tried to do it by ourselves without them.
If anybody is feeling like their loved ones should have qualified for CHC funding, I would strongly advise that you reach out to Hugh James. You have absolutely nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain.
