Mercari provides labels for the shipping chosen by the buyer when your item sells. If the shipping is late due to no fault of your own, people can then leave the review on your page when it does not reflect the seller but the carrier. As a seller once your item is in the carriers hands, it’s out of your control. I recently was given a bad rating because fedex was running behind like I control their business. It’s an unfair practice in my opinion. I give this app 1 star and that is being generous.

Customer service not only got my name wrong, but didn't acknowledge my response and closed my inquiry. Ironically, I wanted to close my account. They gave me a series of steps to complete and then:
"Please note, you cannot close your account via the website at this time.". How am I supposed to do it? Carrier pigeon? I'll never know, since they closed my inquiry instead of answering it.

you have to type in credit card information then they lock your account and then you have to take multiple pictures of your id or passport from all angles as well as a real life photo and then they decline your identity, scammers

Mercurial said respond to phone calls within 24 hours. It has been over 3 months and still no response to my calls of Over 50 purchased in one month . I only made 5. All others were for fraudulent purchases I did not make.

THIS SITE IS RIDICULOUS. I received the wrong item, was out of town when it was delivered but since it’s been more than three days they said too bad. “There’s nothing they can do” and at this point it’s marked as “completed”. You can’t even message the seller about the transaction. They posted a POSITIVE RATING ON MY BEHALF. I’m just in complete shock at their business practice. Past the point of frustrated and reporting them to the better business bureau. BUYERS BEWARE!

I was sent the wrong model of an item. I did not notice it till the fourth day. It looked right and had the right packaging and I did not have a need to use it. They automatically give the seller five stars and refuse any returns after three days. No warnings about their three day policy. I'm out 220 dollars. I'm sticking with eBay from now on.

This site was great for awhile, I sold and bought many good items received great reviews and vice versa. My main issue is shipping which is not all their fault but it needs to be made clear. Also the time frame is awful on both sides, 3 days to wait to get paid and only 3 days to review an item can be a pain for either party. The fees and shipping have gone up so much that in order to sell you have to drop your price and make almost nothing (at least i do because I try to be fair). Its not worth the hassle and unhappy customers any longer, and as a buyer its not worth the headache of paying and never getting your item.

But my god they are so strict. I wanted to send a proof of me dropping the item at the mailbox so I gave my Instagram account so I could send a video (not selling anything) they removed all messages . So I asked a buyer what groups she liked so I could send some freebies with her purchased item. They blocked those messages makes no sense lol

I purchased a DSLR on the Mercari site from a seller called LTradeandServicesllc. I received an email from Mercari the day the camera arrived stating that I'd need to rate my purchase within 3 days. I tried to contact them through their website to explain that the camera didn't come with a memory card, that it's impossible to evaluate the camera without one, and that I'd need another day before reviewing the purchase. I also messaged the seller through the Mercari website but received no response. In the meantime I ordered a memory card on-line but before it arrived I received an email from Mercari stating that they'd rated my purchase for me (5 stars!) and the transaction was complete.

Mercari has no customer service whatsoever. Their "help center" is an automated drop down menu with limited options. There's no option to communicate with anyone, either in real time or by sending text or email. The only option is to pick one of their prescribed scenarios.

I went back to their website in an effort to complain. After picking a series of drop-downs culminating with "I need to change my rating" there was a statement that once a rating has been submitted they're only able to facilitate positive change ratings but they're "willing to help"... and finally there was a text box. After typing out my problem and hitting Send I got the message: "Sorry, there was an error submitting your inquiry. Please try again in a few minutes." Repeated attempts to resend were unsuccessful.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this site at all cost, or patronize them at your own peril.

I joined Mercari and bought an item, which was delivered. Then I got an email saying to rate the seller. I wanted to give her an immediate good rating, but couldn't because when I clicked the link it wanted me to download an app in order to sign in, so I did. Then the app didn't recognize my sign-in info. A half an hour of that nonsense, trying different ways to sign in, to no avail. Tried it again later, and it let me access my account, even though it didn't recognize who I was. Then I search for the seller and there was no trace at all of my purchase. Nothing under buying history, and no way to leave a rating. So I tried to contact them, and that option didn't exist. It asks you questions with preset answers and none of them pertained. I tried different ways to find a way to contact them, and nothing. So I am canceling my Mercari account, and it's a shame for the seller, because she quickly delivered a beautiful item. Who needs this kind of trouble!

I spoke to a woman who was selling Gucci shirt for $400. Worth way more at retail and also new in season , I asked her why such a reasonable price and she said she wanted to clean out her closet & she works in retail so she had lots of items . So after we spoke about it , I got lots of pictures and confirmed it was authentic ... I went ahead and purchased the item . When it came , IT WAS A FAKE ! The item was NOT what was pictured , the Gucci logo was falling off and it was on a Hanes t shirt ! . She scammed me . Took pictures of the real item and sent me a replica . I sent all the details to mercari and next thing you know this lady found me on Facebook and is threatening me saying I’m going to get her page taken down ?? I sent them all the details. From the shirt being shipped from a different location , comparisons of the photos versus what I got , and they still made it impossible to get a return!! Weeks later I was able to get my return after a hefty back and forth . The kicker was they let the seller put the replica item back up for sale ! .
Why have another customer go through that ?

They claimed that there was no proof that the item was a replica (not the Hanes tag at the bottom , Gucci written incorrectly , visibly fake tags , none of that was enough to convince them it was a replica smh ) . So now some poor soul will have the same experience I did with this woman.

NEVER shop on Mercari! Their worthless return policy allows scammers to ship broken items with no hope of getting your money back! I'll never see that $200 again :(

Hi. I love mercari. I love selling and buying on mercari. It helps to get rid of unnecessary stuff and more freedom! But one problem is the rating. I am sick and tired of this policy that sellers and buyers are able to leave unfair ratings for just bcuz they can! Not bcuz a bad rating is left for the fairness. Before they do something about it but now this policy it’s like f- u pretty much. Telling me I am stuck with this bs rating regardless of how ridiculous no evidence at all buyer can contact me for a refund despite being not true. There has to be in some circumstances 10% that ratings can be removed for all fairness. Promote to spread positivity and goodness not negativity not allowing this behavior! I am def more watchful around the app.

If I could give less than a one rating I would! This app is ridiculous. Their criminals. I sold three things on the app everything went fine until I wanted my money put into my bank account. They said my account info was wrong and charged me fees for trying to send it but having the wrong info. Although the info wasn’t wrong! I checked it a bunch of times and it was correct! When I tried to reach out to them through the help center and phone calls it was no use. Their messages kept saying the issue was resolved when it wasn’t and you can’t get anyone on phone. So the money was on my Mercari account then I log in about a month later and the money is completely gone out of Mercari account too. They just kept my money, all of it!! I still can’t get through to anyone, it’s useless! So basically your selling your stuff for them to keep the money!!

Take your business elsewhere!!! You are not protected here in any way!!! Mercari should be shut down.

This is as legal as a scam site gets. I can't stress that enough. This is a scam site. This is the site you go on when you want to sell something that's busted, old, or missing pieces, and you want the buyer to have as little control over their return as possible. They have a 72 hour (3 day) confirmation policy on any item you purchase. They're a bit vague with it, and being that almost all manufacturers and sellers have a 30-60 day return policy, you're more than likely going to be a little doubtful about it at first. Maybe like I was. Allow me to explain... You have 3 days
(72 hours from the time Mercari Inc receives confirmation of the delivery) to verify that the purchase was up to your standards. That's it. 3 days. If that sounds like a load of BS to you, it's because it is. I purchased a used, discontinued item. This item was an electronic dog crate made for anxious pooches. A motion senor monitors the crate, the pooch walks in, a fan and music turn on. You get it. The item shipped without a power supply, making it completely inoperable. If it can't plug in, it can't do anything it's supposed to. As soon as I realized what was missing, I communicated it to the seller THROUGH MERCARI'S CHAT FEATURE, well before the 72 hour window was up. The seller apologized for the missing part, recognized the item's complete inoperability without it, and assured me he'd either find the power supply, or track down and buy a new one to ship me - again, all through Mercari's chat. They could see all of this. They had access. When the 72hour window was up, the purchase was automatically verified for me. I did not have a say, and I could not reverse it. On top of that, I was no longer eligible for returns or refunds. I reached out to Mercari almost immediately (less than 2 hours after the sale was automatically confirmed) and was told there was nothing they could do. It was missing a crucial item, it was not as described, I had caught the error before the aloted 3-day window, and woops, didn't matter. They didn't care, the 72hour window was up. They didn't have to help. I reached out to my bank, started the claim process, but my claim was eventually denied. I then reached out to Paypal (thankfully I purchased the item through them), and opened up a ticket. After almost a month, I still have not received my money back. Paypal requested that I file a report with a law enforcement agency or government organization before they could resolve the matter. I filed a complaint with The Internet Crime Complaint Center, but I'm still waiting for my refund. This is the site you go to when you want to sell something old, broken, or useless, but you don't want the buyer to have any agency on whether or not they're eligible for a refund. This is as legal as a scam site gets. That's all this website is. If you're reading this because you're considering buying something on there... don't. I'll repeat myself. This is the website you go on when you want to sell crap that doesn't work. The buyer has no control, and Mercari doesn't care.

Really underhanded. The item I received was missing pieces, which i immediately requested. After 72 hours Mercari closed my request and left an automatic positive rating on the seller. WHY?!?! They would not allow for a refund or return,

Tried to do a return which was supposed to be within the 3 day timeframe. I contacted them within that 3 days (on the 23rd Jan) , and they replied me on the 26th saying another team will reply to my inquiry. Ended up getting a reply on the 31st and they told me they can't do anything because it's past their 3day timeframe. They replied me way too long and they told me I should've contacted them earlier. No help whatsoever and I had to just keep the damaged items which was sent by the seller.

Extremely poor oversight. Bought three items from same seller. Two were marked as delivered the same day they shipped. Contacted Mercari that this was a scam. They never respond to help requests. Three days after being falsely marked as delivered, they automatically left seller positive feedback and debited my account. They do not respond to help requests. After filing two PayPal disputes, they responded to those with a threatening message that they would suspend my account if I Pursue PayPal disputes. They have no mechanism to contact them. Every request I opened was automatically closed after three days. This is a scam company that, apparently also steal sellers money from other reviews here. This is a scumbag foreign owned business terrorizing and stealing from its customers.

I highly discourage you from downloading Mercari. They justify false, unfair, and defamatory reviews. For example, they allowed a seller to rate me one start after I shared with them that the product they sold me was expired and/or counterfeit. Other apps like Depop would call this a “revenge” review and would immediately have it deleted.
