Way too many fees

Way too many fees. Cost to sell. Cost to ship. Wouldn’t let Me pay and arrange my own shipping which I could have done a lot cheaper. Then cost to have my money deposited in my account! Was never able to get it deposited. Forget it. I left 3.51 on the table because there was no way to get it. I think their model
Is you just spend what you earn and never withdraw. Customer service is non existent. Go with fb marketplace or Craigslist

ZERO SUPPORT FOR SELLERS SCAM COMPANY RUN AWAY

I've been selling for about 9 months. I was lucky for a while- but then got screwed. I've had a few issues come up and every time I asked for help it's a canned email response. The phone number they show on the app is not correct and doesn't work. The only response you will get is an auto email. They will not help you. We were packing up boxes and labels got switched on accident. Unfortunately we used US postal. I couldn't stop the package. I emailed the buyer and said I had shipped the wrong thing and please just don't accept the package and return it. It was much more expensive item than her $5 purchase. I contacted the site many many times with the same auto response. Package arrived- buyer claimed it was wrong item which it was and Mecari auto bot told her to KEEP IT!!!! UGH!!! I messaged and messaged and she refuses to send it back as it's worth much more than her $5 item- Mecair refunded her $5- and refuses to help ME!! I got nothing- zero protection and I'm out the money on a very expensive item. THE SELLERs get SCREWED!!! RUN!! THEY ARE TOTAL CRAP!!!!

First purchase on Mercari

First purchase on Mercari. Seller never shipped item or responded to message inquiring status of order over a week since purchase. Contacted Mercari requesting to cancel item and received email saying they are quite busy and will get to me asap. Have not heard from them yet. Never had this problem with eBay or Amazon. Wouldn't recommend mercari based on my initial experience with them.

Never again

Twice I've purchased something and the seller canceled the order, refunded. This last time the seller said, "Sorry, it was promised to someone else". I'm sure she got a higher offer. NEVER AGAIN.

Mercari doesn’t care about the sellers

Mercari doesn’t care about the sellers. They just want their money and they don’t care about following their policies. I don’t write reviews or complaints but I don’t want other people to go through what I just went through. I sold a plant on Mercari as detailed as possible. The buyer received the item, didn’t send me a message until she cut it up into pieces to propagate because she said they were almost dead and informed me of what she did 7 hours after receiving the plants. I looked at the pictures on the dispute for a refund and the plant was nowhere near death. The buyer didn’t upload pictures of the entire plant as they received it, only parts of it. She didn’t upload pictures of the plants after she cut them. I provided Mercari all these information and they still issued a full refund. They doesn’t care if the items being returned to the seller is not as in the condition or as described when the buyer received it. Mercari doesn’t care as long as they get the portion of the money.

Absolute trash of a site

I have never ever had so much hate for a website in my life! I regret ever making an account and selling on here. I am someone who purchased items online & in person cheap and I recondition them and resell them for a profit. 6 out of 10 items I list in mercari are flagged and removed for whatever bull crap reason they make up yet they are all items I had purchased from mercari and was reselling. I would post the same exact item as some one else yet list it for cheaper and my item would be flagged as counterfeit or prohibited. I have proof that Mercari “authenticity guarantees” fake high end items like fake Chanel and Gucci but my real scarf with receipts was flagged as counterfeit because I didn’t want to pay $5 for them to tell me it’s real when it clearly had proof of authenticity from Gucci. When I sent proof the items they swore were authentic, they told me “sorry we sometimes make mistakes” yet that was 4 Months ago and the items thay are 100% knock offs are still listed for sale and as authentic by mercari. They have since closed my account after I wrote a lengthy message about how it’s ridiculous my items are always reported but another seller has the exact same item for sale and theirs is still up for sale. I had sales pending when they closed my account and now I cannot get my money for those items that were in the process of on its way to the buyer. So they robbed me. Absolutely disgusting. They raised their seller fees so you barely make any money unless you sell things for outrageous prices that obv no one will pay.

Stay away unless you like terrible customer service ran by robots

So I been using Mercari for over a year. Love how you can find deals. But there are just so many lazy, rude sellers out there. 1/5 transactions usually have some sort of issue. My last transaction will probably be my final one. First off, this seller never updated tracking, their communication was poor. I bought a gift set that a good deal, hard to find but upon arrival it was missing an item! Because of how hard it was to find this gift set, I just wanted my money back so i could purchase a similar item in the gift set. I contacted the seller and they said they were fine with a partial refund and we had tried to work around through paypal (yea I know, against policy, seller was insistant) but that didnt work. All i had asked for was $5 in a partial refund or credits through Mercari, and all I kept getting was canned responses. I figured the seller would be ok with me keeping the item and Mercari would pay me out of pocket. No, they keep telling me to send the item back. If its incomplete, why would I do that? Doesnt make sense for the seller. Also, it is a hassle to and find an item in a similar price range. And this seller is complete garbage. Not helpful after I requested the refund. They obviously do not care. I have filed a chargeback with my credit card company over the matter. I am fed up with Mercari. I can’t rate the bad seller so I am going to rate your company instead.

Warning before you buy

Warning before you buy! Ask about odors... I purchased a handbag on the site, after careful review of the pictures that I believed was a good buy. It never occurred to me that I should have asked the seller "Marisas Closet" if the bag had an odor, which is the case with this purchase. The seller should have been forthright in providing that detail in the description. This is a deceptive business practice. The handbag arrived smelling of mold as soon as the box was opened. No visible mold spores were seen, but during this time of a deadly COVID-19 virus. I am very concerned for my health (being over 65 years of age) for not only the smell/odor coming from the handbag, but could I be exposed to mold (if that is what the smell is from). Mold can lead to symptoms such as stuffy nose, wheezing, and red or itchy eyes, or skin and may include fever and shortness of breath and not to rule out fungal infection. The smell after opening the bag was so strong that the fumes filled my house. I have since moved it to the garage.

To add to my dissatisfaction is the cavalier response from your customer service representative Ashley who wrote ...According to Mercari’s return policy, we can not approve a return for odors or smells because this is not something we can verify with photographic proof.

Who would sell something that even has an odor or has been exposed to a damp and/or moldy environment? Ashely went on to say in her response that I could relist it in the marketplace...really!!!! Who would do that in all good conscience.

As a consumer, I feel that I was not only scammed by Mercari and its seller Marisa, they may have put my health in jeopardy with this purchase. Where is the seller's ethics in all of this? Never heard back from the seller "Marisas Closet".

Sellers Beware

I recently started selling on Mercari and I must say that my experience has been the worst. Mercari does not even follow their own policy and just sides with the buyer no questions ask. I had a return approved for an item that I described as much as possible and the buyer knew what they were getting and proceeded to file a return once they got it with no explanation and It was approved in a day. They also gave the buyer 7 days to ship my item back when it’s supposed to be 3 days as stated in their policy. Mercari just sides with the buyer and I never heard from the buyer at all. For anyone selling here be very cautious because there’s a lot of weirdos/scammers on here who will buy something and then return for their own entertainment to mess with people as well as low ballers who are very cheap and choose to not stick to the unbranded bags that were made for people like them. Anyways, when I have finalized all my orders on here I am going to remove all my other listings and just stick to EBay because this is just ridiculous.

Like many others ISSUES

I signed up bought a pair of headphones. Seller never shipped. I asked Mercari to cancel after 5 days and they said it auto cancels after 3. Well not in my case. After it finally cancelled it took 8 days to get back to my bank. I didn't buy anything else for a while. I then bought a speaker. Again after 3 days and tons of emails no reply or shipping from the seller so I asked to cancel and bought another one with a $20 off coupon they sent from another seller. That seller took about 5 days to ship and then shipping was delayed for some reason, meanwhile I'm still waiting to get my money back from the one that DIDN'T ship. 8 days later I get my money back on the one that didn't ship (13 days total after purchase) and the other one arrived after about 12 days from purchase which was significantly longer than suppose to be. I opened the box and it was busted badly like it had been dropped but no damage to outer box. It was not packaged well at all with a little bit of bubble wrap. All the plastic was broken and I sort of think the seller sent it broke to claim insurance because of where parts were in the packing. Plus there were toys mixed in the plastic that didn't belong. I asked for refund and the seller starts giving me crap. After 3 poor transactions I got frustrated and then apologized for being frustrated but at the same time, I need a refund. Back and forth the seller kept wanting me to leave them a review but I didn't want to tank her rating over a shipping issue if it was shipping issue. Packing was definitely suspect though. She kept nagging me and wouldn't give me a refund. So Mercari kept asking for more photos and I immediately sent. Then they said the label was the wrong weight from the seller so they had to print me a new one and issue a refund once the seller got the other one back. I packed it back up, included the toys, and dropped it same day. Took a pic of my receipt and sent it to Mercari. They said they cancelled my refund request but would cancel transaction and refund the transaction once the seller got the item. I don't understand as I waited much longer for package, it arrived broke, I jumped through hoops, and I sent it back with their label and tracking, took pic of receipt of dropping it off and tracking shows in route yet still have to wait before a refund is issued. I have to follow up apparently once it shows delivered to again request my money it isn't automatically done. The process is ridiculous. I had listed some items on Mercari but after this I pulled them. 3 weeks later I no longer have the damaged item nor a refund. It should be returned tomorrow then another 5-8 days for refund to show in the bank. Meanwhile the seller is still demanding a rating and saying Mercari isn't honoring the shipping damage and wants the seller to eat the loss. Seems like not a good deal but the packaging may be the reason why they are not honoring it and the fact they used a cheaper label with incorrect weight according to Mercari. I don't know but this app sucks, sellers don't respond or ship more often then not, and refund process is a headache. it has been returned should return my cash in a timely manner.

Where shall I begin. I have been regular buyer on Mercari. It seems as though with every 3 or 4 transactions I run into at least 1 issue of some sort. It is usually bc the seller didn’t properly wrap the items and they broke during shipping. But recently, the final transaction I will ever have with Mercari took place and after waiting for much MUCH longer than the allotted shipping time- I requested the transaction to just be canceled. While waiting for Mercari to help the seller suddenly marks the transaction as shipped well after a week of me wondering and waiting. Then the package wasn’t left at my house. It was left a few houses down from my mailbox and I contacted mercari and let them know that package wasn’t delivered and we were trying to locate it. In the meantime Mercari sends me a notification saying they gave the seller a “neutral” rating yet I looked at it and Mercari gave them a 5 star perfect rating. Which the seller did not deserve at all. It took a few days but we finally found the package and it wasn’t opened thankfully- but then when I opened I almost threw up from the terrible smell of it. I had to wash my hands from attempting to get the items out of the box my hands stunk like I can only imagine the sellers home would smell like, DISGUSTING. One bottle was missing, one cork to the top of another bottle had fallen off and all the contents was spilled out. I contacted mercari because I wanted to leave a real and truthful rating and I was told no. This proves that Mercari is dishonest and only wants money - not happy Repeat customers. They officially lost this repeat customer and all my family and friends. I have even posted this review on multiple websites to let people know the truth that Mercari is hiding.

Mercari steals sellers money and allows people to sell fake items to buyers

I’m not sure where to start with this joke of an app but I’ve used it on and off to buy and sell for a couple years. A lot of sellers are Very shady and are selling fake items and passing them off as real.I bought a $700 LV only to get it and realize it wasnt the same bag as in the photos, it was a cheap replica with a fake serial # and Mercari denied my return because they said the bag in the sellers photos were real! I was a 5 star seller for over 4 years, and never really had any problems with buyers because I tried to be honest and transparent and always wanted to make sure the buyers were happy. One day they shut down my page for no apparent reason, I tried to contact them to find out why and was never able to get a hold of an actual human being with an answer. My account had at least $500 on it when they randomly deactivated it and they kept every cent. I’ve had many other people tell me they did the same thing to them, had their account shut down without warning or explanation and Mercari kept all their money as well. I would not advise using this app at all and if you choose to, best of luck to you. You will be screwed eventually.

Customer service here is a joke!
This company is nothing but fraud & negelance towards the sellers!
Go to ebay its cheaper / and or free for listing & they have a better reputation for customer service & overall experience.

The previous seller obviously has never dealt with the service dept. No matter what you ask them they come back with some pre written script that has nothing to do with your problem. I doubt if they even read (or can read) your complaint. Now they want to charge you 3 more percent to be of no help. This is a site for scammers and fake merchandise only.

Trust pilot has become a place where people come to vent about bad transactions, instead of honest reviews and well here is one for you! While Mercari is not perfect mainly due to how sellers get paid... its not a one star marketplace either! I have been selling there for almost a year now and I have had zero issues as a buyer and as a seller. Yes, you do have to be careful for scammers but you will be protected if you use the shipping label provided by Mercari, I think thats the main issue with some sellers is that they think they can print a label somewhere else because its cheaper but Mercari will not side with you what so ever, so proceed with caution. So as far as the only issue I've had would be how you cash out and it is annoying that you have to wait about 3 days for your funds you still have the option to do insta pay which takes a few minutes however, they do charge 2%. Overall just be smart about both buying and selling and I promise you, you will have no issues.
