Kolabtree has been an excellent experience for me. The professional-client interaction is seamless, and payouts are completely hassle-free. A reliable platform that truly makes collaboration easy.

I was able to meet a hard working statistician who met my needs. Unfortunately communication with the support staff via email is poor and contributed to a delay in payment of the statistician.

It provided a good amount of candidates for the project I was working on, but the interface is not the easiest to use, and when I went to pay a freelancer, the site claimed there were insufficient funds, which was not correct. So the site needs some work.

Kolabtree makes it easy to find clients. As a freelancing scientist, their network is very valuable. That said, their fee, which is paid by the client and not the freelancer, is quite steep.

The website is easy to use and the support is quick to respond.

This companies customers service I have ever experienced. I understand people come and write reviews and individuals can be more petty than others - but I have been trying for weeks to get in contact with customers service using contact@...- and no one ever responds. This is so bad. I currently have $800 sitting in a funded project that I need to abort because the freelancer has ghosted me - I attempt to abort the project - the system tells me there is a technical issue and can not abort - I then refresh and it tells me the project has been aborted with no information about my money. I have no idea what to do. The worst company I have ever come across. Anyone got any ideas how I can get my money back?

The platform makes it easier to interact with clients. It ensures the project is funded before starting; therefore, it makes it easier to negotiate and complete a project on time.

I wanted to take a moment to express how much I appreciate the Kolabtree platform. As an oncologist and expert in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacology, I find it to be an outstanding space to connect with professionals and offer high-level consulting services. The projects I’ve worked on so far have gone very smoothly, and the overall experience has been excellent.

The only issue I’ve encountered is with the payment process. Currently, Payoneer is the sole method available, and unfortunately, it can be quite slow at times. This delay can be challenging, especially when managing multiple projects and timelines.

It would be immensely helpful if alternative payment options could be considered in the future, such as direct bank transfer or PayPal, to improve flexibility and reduce wait times.

Thank you again for creating such a valuable platform. I look forward to continuing to collaborate through Kolabtree.

Kolabtree’s promises about refunds are completely misleading. They claim you’ll get your money back if you’re not satisfied, but when my freelancer failed to deliver, Kolabtree insisted I still pay a “partial payment” for the freelancer’s “effort”—even though I got nothing as promised. This directly contradicts what they advertise.

It’s been over a month since I requested a refund. Kolabtree still holds my money, and their support only responds when they feel like it. Despite their promise that a “dispute manager” would resolve things and refund my balance, nothing has happened (see below for proof).

* On May 22, 2025, I requested a refund of $822 for an "aborted project". I had funded 3 complete, but unfulfilled, hours with a freelancer, expecting "considerable progress and meaningful results" within that time. After 1.5 hours of simply reviewing the the project, the freelancer demanded payment saying, "in any case, I expect 1.5 hours' payment released before proceeding, as I work for time spent, not results achieved, which should be understood implicitly". This is despite all the project’s description being detailed before accepting the project.

* The freelancer's demand for payment based on time spent, not results, contradicted the Statement of Work.
* The freelancer's policy of demanding payment "even when satisfied with no results" contradicted Kolabtree's policy, where a client approves funds only if satisfied with the results. This aligns with my later public complaint that Kolabtree insists on partial payments "even though I got nothing as promised”.
* The project description detailed expected "considerable progress" and attention to core issues, not just activity.
* Kolabtree reviewed the project and acknowledged a "miscommunication," but stated the expert "made a sincere attempt" and expressed willingness to continue. Kolabtree recommended approving payment for at least 1 hour of the first freelancer's time. I did not agree with the outcome as this is contradicts Kolabtree policies, but for the sake of peace, on June 18, 2025, I approved 1 hour of payment, explicitly stating it was "for the sake of peace, not because I agree with your assessment".

* For another project, I initially intended for $657.60 of committed funds to remain in my wallet to pay for a freelancer upon completion.
* By May 28, 2025, I reached an agreement with the freelancer to abort the project halfway through. I then requested a refund of $591.84 from the committed funds for this project.
* Kolabtree reviewed the second freelancer's project, observing she spent "considerable time" with "extended scope," even though "the desired results was not achieved". Kolabtree recommended approving partial payment for the time spent. Again for "the sake of peace," I approved 2 hours of payment for the freelancer.

* I repeatedly followed up on my refund requests, noting a delay of "over a month”, which is still pending to date. Kolabtree's support only responds when they feel the need to, not when you make an inquiry.
* On May 23, 2025, I first requested an immediate refund of $1,513 (which was my available wallet balance then).
* By May 27, 2025, my available balance was stated as $1,185.05 (I committed additional funds to another project), and I reiterated my request for this amount along with the $822 from the aborted project.
* After approving 1 hour for the first freelancer and 2 hours for the second freelancer, I followed up multiple times, expecting the remaining balance to be refunded promptly.
* However, there has been no update despite Kolabtree's promise of resolution by Monday.
* By June 19, 2025, I noted it had been "over 24 hours" since my final approval for partial freelancer payments, and I still lacked confirmation of my refund processing, requesting it by the end of the week.
* On June 23, 2025, I sent another notice, demanding confirmation of the immediate refund of the available balance within 24 hours. Which they still have not refunded.

Kolabtree's team emailed me and they contradicted their policy for hourly payment projects: "freelancers are expected to work within the agreed time frame." They also state that "even if deliverables are still in progress or only a preliminary submission is made, the hours worked may still be considered for payment".

My experience with Kolabtree has been marked by frustration over perceived misleading promises, significant delays, and the platform's insistence on partial payments for "effort" rather than "results" when deliverables were not met.

Bottom line: Kolabtree does NOT do as promised and is negligent with customer funds. Potential users—be very careful!

I’ve been working with an expert through Kolabtree on a project. The expert provided excellent input, and I approved the milestone for payment. Despite this, the expert has still not been paid — and it’s now been over nine days since the issue was first raised.

I have contacted Kolabtree multiple times, and have since continued to request that the milestone be paid or refunded. Each time, the implication has been that the freelancer is somehow at fault, which is simply not the case.

The expert has been in contact with Payoneer, their payment provider, and has been informed that the problem lies with Kolabtree's setup — specifically, they are using an outdated company ID in their integration. This has prevented the payment from processing.

Despite this being entirely on their end, the payment is still unresolved, the project has halted, and communication from Collaboratory has been evasive at best. This situation has directly caused delays, business disruption, and financial loss.

I’m deeply disappointed by the lack of accountability and urgency in resolving what should be a straightforward issue.

The project posting process was straightforward, and I appreciated the option to filter candidates by field (e.g., food chemistry, microbiology) and academic background.

The standout feature was the secure collaboration tools. The built-in milestone tracking and escrow payment system gave me peace of mind, and my client, received deliverables ahead of schedule.

For improvement, expanding the search filters (e.g., by publication history or lab techniques) would help clients find hyper-specialized talent faster. A mobile app for on-the-go communication would also be a plus. That said, this platform is a must-try for anyone in STEM fields—it bridges the gap between academia and industry seamlessly.

Great experience, overall. Very interesting projects. A great plus is that, compared to other platforms, newcomers seem to have the same chances of getting hired as people who have been on the platform for longer.
A suggestion: I think a Kolabtree mobile app is definitely needed to facilitate interactions and file exchanges with clients on the go.
