Tally basically gaslighted me
Tally basically gaslighted me. I got a Tally account after hearing about it from Freakonomics. I looked on Nerd Wallet like I always do and saw great reviews. Unfortunately the reviews were not consistent with my experience. I needed some help with debt consolidation for some pandemic era credit card debt. At first Tally seemed great, it was paying my credit cards for me and I only had one bill I had to think about. Then the interest rate slowly started creeping up (well before the Fed raised interest rates) to the point where it was only three percent less than my main credit card. I was paying for the membership so it was basically a wash financially. Whatever, still better to have only one account to think about. I didn't really think Tally was doing much to help with debt consolidation so I started browsing for other options. Then I had to deal with them when a problem arose. I had to get a new credit card number for one of my cards and I received an email that I had added the new card too late for Tally to be able to pay its bill that month and instructed me to pay it myself. No problem, I did so by reducing the amount I would pay Tally that month and sending the difference directly to the credit card company. I have it set up to receive emails when Tally makes a payment on one of my cards and did not receive any notification that Tally was paying that card (I have two cards due on the same day and received an email regarding payment made to the other card). A few days later I pulled up my statement and saw that Tally had paid the new card for me, after telling me I had to pay it and failing to tell me they had changed their mind. It messed up my budget and put me in a small bind financially, but I can absorb and work around unexpected expenses (I know that not everyone can). I was pretty frustrated but figured it was some glitch that would be resolved once I showed them what happened. The customer service response was that it was my fault I didn't receive the email they allege was sent (without showing proof of that email after repeated requests) and my fault that they paid my card after telling me they couldn't and my fault I paid the card as they instructed me to do. I was wrong, they were right, no discussion. The only option to correct the double payment was for me to ask my credit card company to return the payment. I provided screen shots of every email I received from them and explained why what I did and why I was frustrated was the most logical response to the communication I received from them and they still refused to do anything to ameliorate the issue or even acknowledge that they might have messed up. The thing is, I understand that things go wrong. I know that a computer can say it sent an email when it didn't. I know that two people can have different versions of an event based on their own perspective. But I expect the customer service of companies that I do business with to also understand that things go wrong and accept that I can have a different perspective and still be right. Everything that I did in response to the communication I received was perfectly reasonable: they told me to pay my card, I did, I received no email that they were paying it, and I was frustrated when they paid it (and started charging me interest on their payment). For them to have said: "what you did makes sense, here's a good faith effort to fix the issue or help you deal with this predicament we had a hand in causing" would have been one thing. Instead, Tally said all of it was my fault and there was nothing they were going to do about it. Within a few days I moved my business to another debt consolidation company and closed my account. I would not recommend Tally to anyone.
EDIT: As expected, Tally responded to this review:

The email notifications and subsequent communications were perfectly clear. Tally told me I had to pay a card and then paid it behind my back without notifying me. I am not under any impression that there is some employee sitting in a dark cubicle sending me emails and paying my cards for me. This was a computer glitch, which I understand happens. My problem with Tally, the reason I am no longer a customer, the reason I wrote this review, and the reason I'm responding to their pitiful reply to my review is that when this computer glitch happened, Tally blamed me, continued to blame me when presented with evidence, and then made no attempts to remedy or ameliorate the situation. The only possible course of action was to ask my credit card company to return the payment, but that it could take 30 days and there was no guarantee it would happen - meanwhile Tally would continue to compound interest on their mistake and make me pay for it.

Do not signup with Tally
Do not signup with Tally! It does not do what you think it will, nor says it will. It is not a set and forget type of arrangement, and ultimately cannot be trusted. Sounds to good to be true and it is. I regret ever seeing anything about Tally. My experience has been awful and I’m looking forward to the day when I can totally be rid of it. Tally customer service/support is terrible, infuriating, rude, and condescending. Expect canned responses and limited to no good options with everything. Save yourself stress and BS and look for other options like SoFi, Discover, Amex, OneMain Financial, Quicken or Lending Tree. Tally will absolutely earn your regret if you try them.

Do not trust this company with a penny. As many other reviews have stated; they have horrible customer service, and bad business practices. We recently were charged TWICE in a three day period for our account, which we have an Email thread WITH customer service just a week prior, to postpone a payment by a few days. Instead, they charged us twice, and sent our account into the negative. After calling customer service, and spending time trying to solve this, Tally customer service told my wife that it's our problem, and our banks problem, and that they don't have to do anything about the 600 dollars they took from our account WITHOUT approval. Even with documentation, they will steal your money and spit in your face when you call them out on it. They canceled our account effective immediately, and continued about their day. Absolutely garbage company.
