I have been trying to cancel two bookings for over a week, received one email asking a question but then nothing since.

I have since tried opening a second ticket and tried phoning but not able to make contact.

Will now need to start a credit card chargeback, wont be booking with this company again.

If you’re looking for regular games don’t even bother! Terrible experience in Brighton. Many matches were cancelled — including three at the start and over a third overall. Communication is awful; they only contact you when they want money. On top of that, they kept our £50 season deposit after our last game, even though all match fees were paid. Completely unprofessional — I would not recommend this league to anyone.

My experience with playfootball.net has been consistently disappointing. On multiple occasions, referees have turned up extremely late, meaning our games were cut short without any compensation. Worse still, there were several times when the referee never showed up at all. We were left waiting around, never informed of what was happening, and ultimately never even got to play a game we’d already paid for.

Now I’m trying to leave, and the situation is just as frustrating. I gave six weeks’ notice, I honoured my end of the agreement by paying and playing out the rest of the season, but I still haven’t received written confirmation of my cancellation. Despite chasing this multiple times, I’ve been completely ignored by the people in charge.

It’s appalling that the organisation is quick to message you the moment a payment doesn’t go through, but when you actually want to cancel, you’re left without any support or response. At this point, I’ll likely have to go through my bank to block further payments just to stop being charged.

This is a horribly run company, and my advice is to avoid them entirely.

We have been using PlayFootball for a while now and they have been really helpful and responsive when we have been trying to find pitches for our new women’s football club in York. Oli in particular is always friendly, supportive and really quick in responding. Thank you Oli!

We have been using the facilities at Chelsea St Luke’s for a while and, until now, had always considered the service acceptable. On previous occasions when we needed to cancel, refunds were handled smoothly and fairly. Unfortunately, our most recent experience has been very different.

Despite not using the venue at all, we were informed that no refund or credit would be provided. While this was justified under the “rolling contract” terms, the inconsistency compared with past practice makes the decision feel arbitrary and unfair.

What has been most disappointing, however, is the tone of communication. Rather than engaging with us constructively as loyal customers, the response felt dismissive and even somewhat threatening in its wording. That is not the kind of customer service one expects in London, where competition between venues is strong and professionalism matters.

We will continue for now, but this episode has made us question whether we would remain here in the future. Trust and goodwill are easily lost, and sadly this experience has damaged both.

Enquired about a block booking for Lydney, I received an email from Max requesting further information which I supplied within a few hours that morning and then nothing for several days. I tried calling but every option I pressed just rang without answer.

Surprise surprise, after leaving my negative review today, I get a email from them which I replied to 6 minutes later and await a response.

Don’t be fooled by their comments to reviews; they conveniently omitted how long it took them to respond having received my additional information and are silent on why they don’t answer the phone.

Very poor customer service indeed which needs a serious overhaul.

Had in a team in a PlayFootball league for 6 seasons / 4 years.
Definitely the most well run football setup I've been a part of.
Super responsive team, with a great setup so matches were consistent competitive and fair.
A big shoutout to Henry who was our league manager over the years.
I would recommend highly to anyone.

Was in the league for around 2 years in Bristol and had great experience with the overall management of the league, who were always super helpful. My contact was Oli, who was great, and was always quick to respond. We needed to urgently get out the league due to no players and Oli sorted this in a matter of days, which meant no penalties

Once talking to Kieran he arranged our block booking. Communication was clear and concise, and was easy to get sorted without any issues.

Really bad service!
Impossible to get through on the phone and they won’t call you back.
The on site requests are rarely answered and the staff are really unhelpful when you email them.
Quick to take your money but I’m still waiting for a refund that was supposed to be paid over a week ago.

Book regularly through their platform - booking is never an issue.

Issues only arise when having to amend or cancel as they do not have direct phone number to call or someone to speak to. Responses to online forms have been slow.

However since coming into contact with Stu via FB messenger this has changed - I have had very polite and prompt reactions from Stu - very thankful for his help!

Do not expect to receive prompt updates when their pitches are closed. You'll need to find out on the day when you turn up with 16 people to play only to find the gates closed.
Never reached out to me as the booking owner in a proactive fashion in order to keep me up to date.
I recently sent a formal complaint which wasn't even acknowledged.
The service is not even poor, it simply doesn't exist.

Much the same experience as the other reviewers on here... the most dreadful customer service and they've even had the cheek to request a full weeks notice of a cancellation... literally impossible to get a bunch of in work, early middle-aged lads to commit a week in advance without pulling out. The "Ticket" system on their website (which is how they want to be contacted... not email or phone call) leaves you no reference, so once you sent a request - poof! It's just gone and you have to trust they receive it and respond to it. Then guess what, when they don't respond, there's no number to call and if you send an email (which they say is a worse way to contact them as the "tickets" get dealt with first), then they will just claim that a "ticket" was never done... as for getting money back, well they don't like doing that, but I have got it out of them in the past, after some difficulty. The staff at the facility I use even say that they get endless complaints about this booking system and wish they hadn't passed it over to this company. I recommend people try to use a facility which isn't run by these guys wherever possible!

I spoke to Oli Hurd over the phone who took my enquiry. Oli helped with all the questions I had to ask and booked in the blocked booking.

Booked to play at market road on 29th November for two hours and were told by reception that our booking was not on the system and there was another group that had booked during our time, so was unable to play.

I have emailed but alas no response 1167598 and 1167597 are the booking references and I have a picture of market road receptions booking - mine was not on there. Due to play football 15 of my friends wasted money (over £100 total) on travel and I demand compensation - no one responding to my emails.. please help.

Best small sided leagues we’ve played in. Great service, always have a game and payments are easy. Thanks

Play in the leagues with PlayFootball (3 seasons now). Well organised and evenly balanced divisions, great set up. Recommend.

Had a league team with PlayFootball for over 10 years in York and in Nottingham, excellent customer service and management.

Poor company hard to even get a response automated customer service line. Tried to put on a refund request the website is broken and crashes. We had a booked a pitch at Mile End. We was given pitch 7 which when we turned up had no goals and the pitch had holes in it. We went to Mile End leisure centre to complain, however they stated This is run by play football, they have had to lock the gates because the pitch was unsuitable and a health hazard. Any complaints needed to be directly contacted to playfootball.

Terrible serice. As they keep saying on their phone line "we are the UK's leading football booking service" yet they take 4-8 days to respond to an email. They don't answer questions properly so then another week goes by before you get a reply. Then you may need to change one date and another week goes by. You can't speak to them on the phone. It's a joke. You need same day responses for pitch bookings. Awful, but they seem to have a monopoly on this!
