The quality of data is very bad, incorrect data for prices, statements, data gaps
Ich habe polygon abonniert um zuverlässig Daten für meine Recherchen über API zu beziehen, die Daten stimmen vorne und hinten nicht. Nie wieder
YFinance is better.
I subscribed to Polygon.io intending to build a simple .XSP index options screener—something straightforward, based on defined delta, IV, OI, and expiration filters. That’s it. They also don't even provide HV....
I couldn’t even get that done at the $79/month tier.
Not with:
Gemini Pro 2.5
ChatGPT-4 with Code Interpreter
CoPilot
Options SDKs
O1 Pro
Nothing could reliably pull the necessary data and compute trades without hitting rate limits, broken endpoints, or documentation that reads like it was written during a hangover.
Their options API is a complete joke.
Greeks are delayed or unavailable. OI data is hit-or-miss. Filtering is non-existent unless you want to write your own query engine with duct tape and pray. Even basic things like “get all XSP options expiring today” turn into hell.
If you're a retail trader, avoid.
If you're building anything rule-based with AI or GPTs, Polygon is a productivity trap with a billing system.
I’ve had better data from open-source Yahoo Finance wrappers. At least those don't pretend to be institutional-grade.
Data is totally inaccurate.
Duplicating splits, missing splits - that's why incorrect prices for months and nobody cares.
After contacting support (must respond in 15 mins) after 2 hours they just told:
"Oh, I see some mistakes. We'll try to correct errors, it'd take some time."
Seriously?!?! No apologies! Just errors - oh, it's ok, never mind. Yeah, after couple of weeks we'll correct them....
Never buy their service!
I had high hopes for Polygon.io, but my experience has been nothing short of disappointing. From unresponsive support channels to inaccurate data and outdated SDKs, this platform has failed to meet even the most basic expectations.
First and foremost, their support channels are essentially black holes. Whether it's reaching out via Github, email, or chat, I've received absolutely no response. It's frustrating to encounter issues with their service and have no way of getting assistance or clarification.
Moreover, the accuracy of the data provided by Polygon.io leaves much to be desired. One glaring issue is with dividend information. For instance, stocks like USOI are shown to have dividends of exorbitant amounts, like $8 or more, which is simply incorrect. Additionally, dividend dates are often wrong or inconsistent, making it impossible to rely on this data for investment decisions.
Furthermore, the SDKs provided by Polygon.io are outdated, making it challenging to integrate their services seamlessly into applications or platforms. In today's fast-paced technological landscape, having up-to-date SDKs is crucial for developers to leverage the full potential of a service.
Lastly, Polygon.io is lacking fundamental features that one would expect from a data provider in this space. Whether it's comprehensive data coverage, robust analytics tools, or reliable real-time updates, the platform falls short on multiple fronts.
Overall, my experience with Polygon.io has been extremely unsatisfactory. With unresponsive support, inaccurate data, outdated SDKs, and lacking features, I cannot recommend this platform to anyone seeking reliable financial data and services.
Polygon cannot deliver on their promise of "unlimited API calls".
After working through issues with Polygon returning invalid JSON -- without any help from customer service representatives who are completely unaware of the product they provide support for -- Polygon informed me that they would begin throttling requests for my account six weeks after I subscribed.
While they refunded me for the current month I paid for, they refused to refund me for the previous month and would not explain why my usage was acceptable then and wasn't going forward.
I've since switched over to ThetaData without issue.
