I’m really sorry that your experience felt this way. I can see how finding a passion project only to hit a requirement to join a platform would feel frustrating. To be clear, the jobs on Twine are real opportunities from real clients, but we do require a profile to ensure we’re sending them verified, high-quality applications.

Regarding the "paywall," we actually offer one free application every month to all users, and for those coming from external sites, we usually provide a discount code for a free month of Pro. We don't want anyone to feel trapped by "sunk cost"; we just want to make sure the freelancers who apply actually stand out to the client. We do use some automated tools to help match skills to jobs, but our community is very much run by real people who care about getting freelancers paid fairly.

We appreciate the feedback on how this flow felt to you, especially regarding being more upfront. We'll definitely take that on board as we look at how we present these listings.

Hi Jamie,

I’m really sorry that your experience felt misleading, that’s the last thing we want. To be clear, the jobs you see on LinkedIn are 100% real, but because we’re a specialised marketplace for freelancers, we do require a profile to ensure our clients are getting applications from verified professionals.

If you came from LinkedIn, there should have been a discount code on the landing page for a free month of Pro so you could apply for those roles at no cost. Even without that, we still give every user one free application every month. As for the emails, you can toggle those off or unsubscribe at the bottom of any message if they aren't for you.

We genuinely appreciate the feedback and will look at how we can make that transition from LinkedIn much clearer for developers in the future.

The Free Tier: Every Twine user receives one free application per month. We don’t "pay-wall" the entire site, but we do limit free applications to ensure our clients aren't overwhelmed and receive the highest quality pitches.

LinkedIn Referrals: For designers coming specifically from LinkedIn, we actually provide a discount code on the landing page for a full free month of Pro. This allows you to apply for multiple roles immediately without any initial cost.

Data & Transparency: We ask for profile details upfront so we can accurately match your skills to the right roles, but we understand your time is valuable.

We take your comments regarding the user flow seriously and will review how we communicate these limits to ensure no one else feels "tricked" into signing up. We genuinely want to help designers find great work, not create barriers.

We vet every job that’s posted on Twine before it’s made public, and we also monitor for any signs of scams or spam. However, we know that some projects can seem vague or don’t move forward. This sometimes happens if the client receives too many applications or changes their mind.

We’re working hard to improve project quality and client engagement, and have just released (today) a major improvement to the client experience. We believe this will improve client engagement and therefore your experience as a freelancer on Twine.

Vogliamo chiarire alcuni punti importanti:
Twine è una piattaforma globale e le opportunità in lingua italiana possono essere meno frequenti, ma ci stiamo impegnando a crescere in tutti i mercati, Italia compresa. Le candidature per i casting dipendono dalla richiesta dei clienti, che purtroppo non possiamo controllare direttamente.

Per quanto riguarda il rinnovo dell’abbonamento, informiamo chiaramente sul fatto che Twine Pro è un servizio a rinnovo automatico, come indicato nella pagina di acquisto e nelle email di conferma. Comprendiamo però che può capitare di non accorgersene, e ci dispiace non essere riusciti a risolvere la tua richiesta di rimborso in tempo utile. Il nostro supporto ti ha risposto subito non appena ricevuto il messaggio, ma PayPal aveva già chiuso la pratica.

Cerchiamo sempre di supportare la nostra community di freelancer, offrendo strumenti, visibilità e contatti diretti con i clienti, senza commissioni elevate come altre piattaforme.

Twine operates on a transparent subscription model for freelancers. Free members can apply for opportunities, and paid members choose to subscribe for additional features such as more applications, higher visibility, and access to client contact details. This model allows us to avoid charging high commissions on projects and keeps pricing clear and predictable.

To clarify, this project was aimed at home cooks and private chefs preparing everyday meals they already make, using local ingredients they typically have on hand. The goal was to capture authentic cooking rather than professionally developed or styled recipes, which is why the end client didn’t include a separate ingredient budget.
