I have been a regular client at Vwax for the past year, having undergone a full wax every five weeks. The salon maintains a high level of professionalism, creating a comfortable atmosphere for clients.

Following a negative experience at a previous establishment due to concerns about my weight, I sought a more positive experience. Vwax’s salon is well-decorated and exceptionally clean. Natalie is approachable, fostering a welcoming environment.

I want to share my personal experience of the 1:1 training course, as I believe it raises genuine concerns around communication, professionalism, and student support.

I booked a 1:1 course with Natalie, the brand owner, specifically to learn both body and intimate waxing. After paying in full online using a discount code that was openly advertised on social media, I was later contacted and asked to pay additional fees. I was told the discount shouldn’t have applied to my course—despite the code working on the website and the promotion not mentioning any exclusions for 1:1 training.
Shortly after arranging a training date, my original training date was also changed at short notice (about a week prior), which was inconvenient.
The pre-course materials were another issue. I did have to chase these and they were delayed multiple times, when I finally received access to the the full theory via the online portal, it was only around four days before the training session allowing very little time to learn. Until that point I wasn’t aware of what was missing, as no clear outline had been provided. When I raised this, I was told it was my responsibility to flag what was missing, which I personally found unreasonable—especially when students are not informed upfront about the full content or timeline. I had assumed if anything wasn’t there it would be covered on the training day, to my surprise no theory was covered on the training day.
On the day of the 1:1 training, I found the experience unexpectedly difficult. The trainer didn’t take any time to have an informal chat with me about my current business, how long I’ve been in the beauty industry. On the day of the 1:1 course, in my view, I didn’t receive the level of support or encouragement I had anticipated, and I found some of the communication, non verbal cues and tone to be discouraging. There were moments where I felt very uncomfortable and spoken to in a condescending manner. Phrases like “you’re not getting it, are you?” were repeated, and the environment felt more critical than constructive and engaging. As an educator myself, I know the importance of constructive criticism, but this did not feel like that and should be met in equal measure with encouragement. In my view this wasn’t my experience.
As a professional in the beauty industry for nearly six years—and someone who has taken multiple training courses—I’ve never previously felt like this way during or after a training session. I found the approach here deflating and not conducive to learning. In my opinion, there was very little adjustment made for different learning styles, and it was assumed that online theory / videos would fully prepare students for practical work—something that may not suit all learners.
What I found especially upsetting was a social media post that appeared on the brand owner’s public account just hours after my training session. While no names were used, the timing and language felt like it could be referencing my training, as well as that of other recent students. In my view, the post came across as mocking and dismissive of students' abilities. Statements such as “I spoon feed people and they still don’t/can't do the work” and “I’ve really got to baby them…” felt hurtful and unprofessional. Whether or not it was directly about me, the tone of the post made me feel uncomfortable and publicly shamed which was embarrassing.
Due to this, I declined the offer of a follow-up training day. I no longer felt comfortable or respected within the learning environment, and I had lost trust in the brand. The same social media post also seemed to express frustration about having to retrain students, which made me question the sincerity of the offer to return for a repeat training day.
Additionally, on the training day, I was asked to sign a waiver stating I could only use their wax brand (V Wax) after training. This was never made clear to me prior to booking or prior to payment. Personally, I found this restrictive, and the lack of upfront disclosure felt misleading.
I did reach out to the company to express my concerns and to highlight the social media post. However, I did not receive an apology and the response I received felt defensive, alluding to me being ‘sensitive’. When I questioned the social media post, shared that evening just hours after my 1:1 course, I was told it wasn’t about me. With regard to the rest of my complaint, I was told the matter would be investigated by speaking to the models present on the day, who, to my understanding, are regular salon clients/models. I’m not confident this offers a neutral or unbiased perspective.
As a trainer myself this has concerned me and I don’t believe any student should be made to feel this way.

I’ve done two waxing courses before this one, and this was by far the best.

It’s the only one that’s left me feeling truly confident, fully prepared, and equipped with real knowledge.
