Outstanding help and support over 3 years of fighting the CHC funding mistake.

Very supportive through a difficult time. Beacon has supported my family through a DST and is supporting us through an appeal for an earlier period. Our advocate couldn't have been more supportive and was also very honest with us, making sure not to incur costs where we may not see equal recompense.

An excellent service. Clear and consistent communication throughout and, for my dad, a truly life-changing result. A friend recommended Beacon CHC and ahead of winning our appeal, I was already impressed with the service. Appealing a CHC decision can be... complicated. My caseworker was friendly, approachable, professional, and sensitive to the issues at hand. Collating all the evidence (there was a LOT) was a huge task that I was happy for Beacon to undertake. The appeal document was immense and complex and highlighted further faults in the DST process that none of us had spotted. The process took around 14 months but we were able to show the CCG had made a series of mistakes and was indeed legally responsible for Dad's care – and we eventually won our appeal.

Beacon have been incredibly supportive and friendly at a very very stressful time after my husband's chc got pulled after 12 years. When the NHS suddenly stopped funding my CHC package with 30 days notice but the local authority couldn’t start funding any of my care needs for 6 months, I had to borrow money from my Mum to pay for my basic care needs. Thankfully, I was introduced to Beacon CHC who guided us through the tortuous appeal process. Beacon is hugely knowledgeable, works collaboratively, teams double check each other’s work and are very experienced.

The whole process of determining eligibility for NHS CHC funding is a minefield and having someone guide you through the process is a massive help. I would have no hesitation in recommending Beacon CHC, the earlier in the process the better as they can help you prepare.

Beacon is very busy and it can be frustrating getting access. The information initially provided was really excellent. I requested the Expert Analysis service as I wished to appeal. The report was useful, but it did take me close to the final date to appeal. The content was thorough given the information they had. However there was so much more information I could have provided. It is therefore very important to ensure that dates, names, purpose of everything relating to the person being assessed for CHC is provided. It would have been helpful to have been informed exactly what information was required. The language and use of initials ie DST can be confusing as can the whole process of assessing for CHC when preparing for the appeal. I didn't agree with all of it, but it has been useful. The Expert analysis is a tool to assist you when preparing for the appeal but it requires a lot of understanding and because the whole process is complex anyway it requires a lot of subsequent work. I spoke to two people with regard to the analysis and they were fantastic, but probably could have asked more questions of me, that would have given me a greater understanding of the CHC process. I am still grappling with the way scores are attributed to the domains, but I have come to the conclusion so does everyone, including those undertaking the assessments as it is so subjective and ambiguous.
