Because of Brands are Boring I finally have a great name for my startup! Overall had a great experience, the names were delivered in time and most of the names were creative and well-suited for my company. I recommend them!

Pros:
- Their website looks nice.
- Their examples are clever and lure you in.
- They gave me a full refund as none of their names were used, or really usable.

Cons:
- 48 hours is working days, which they don't make clear. I submitted on Friday morning and waited 4 days because of the weekend. No issue with that, but they ought to make it clear, as some services operate 7 days a week.

- I gave an example of a naming style I didn't want because it's what most of my competitors have done, and 80% (4 out of 5) of their suggestions were in the exact same naming style, so I didn't feel listened to.

- 1 of the 5 names was already a service in my industry.

- 1 of the 5 names contained the word 'hives', which is a common skin rash; not sure what they were thinking. They gave context as a place bees work, which has nothing to do with my service or industry.

- All 5 of the names could be considered 'boring'; the very thing they claim not to be.

- When you place the order, you get a receipt and nothing more. It's a very sterile service. It's a case of buying, getting your receipt, and then you're sent the names in a link with password protection on it. When you're waiting 4 days (including weekend) with no correspondence, or to confirm it was at least received by the studio, it leaves you in the dark a bit. They could even follow-up after the receipt with an acknowledgement that they've received the order and it will be delivered on Date (48 working hours from order). That alone would make a big difference.

I've asked for the 2 revisions I've paid for but I honestly don't hold out much hope. In the time I waited, I came up with three names of my own that are all significantly better (more original, more creative, more appropriate).

All in all, I'd say if you have even a modicum or shred of creativity in you, you can come up with a better name by yourself. If you genuinely feel you can't think like that and need help, use the many free generator tools out there to help you spark some ideas and save your money.

I'm always conscious of not being too cut-throat, brutal or scathing in reviews because there's a real human being behind the business. But they have to remember that there's also a real human being behind the request, who's parted with a chunk of money in difficult times. I really expected better.

Really disappointed.

UPDATE: 8 days after requesting my two revisions, Sophie came back with 5 more, rather than two, which was good. They were better than the original suggestions, but still nowhere near good enough for what I had expected based on their website and portfolio. I won't be using any of them.

Sophie asked me to remove this review, but I feel doing so is dishonest, so instead I've offered this update to reflect the reality of the service.

UPDATE x2: Bob got in touch to apologise for the disappointing service and issued a full refund, which I felt was the right thing to do. I've updated my review to reflect that fact. Sure, the service let me down, but they made it right by ensuring I didn't suffer any financial loss because of it, so I'm thankful for that.

What an amazing bunch of creative people! We needed a name for our new clothing business which is actually really hard to come up with, considering the ocean of brands in this space. The team has quickly understood the brief and picked up the essence of our brand identity. They came up with brilliant brand names in 2 days! It is now really hard for us to choose the "one" because we love a few options. Absolutely thorn! A very misleading enterprise. They promise 14 names and "5 revisions based on your feedback", which means just 5 names more. Most of the names they offered were just unusable, and the ones that had conceptual potential were unpronounceable.

They have the worst customer service ever! After the delivery, I wrote 2 emails asking for adjustments...they never replied. Zero communication, zero feedback and no way to interact. It's a one-way relationship with a BOT and the delivery is not satisfying at all. Don't waste your money.

Brands are boring is quick, friendly and thorough. The company asked us several questions in order to fully comprehend what our business or product is all about and that we will get our 14 names within 24 hours and we did. It was hard to choose and we may even use several of them for other products! Thank you.

The team is creative and delivers what's promised. The setup of first collecting input and then coming up with a good initial range of options that can be reworked with a second shot worked well for me. It provides the option to take the list of names as inspiration to create your own brand name. I ended up selecting one that has been re-worked by the team. It was essential to me that the name is available as a web domain and also not an already registered company name. Briefing given, emails exchanged, name found, Job done!!!
