I used Car Finance 247 to arrange finance for a Ford Transit Luton van supplied by RW Motor Company in Cwmbran, Wales, who were operating from Unit 199, Springvale Industrial Estate, Cwmbran, NP44 5BL at the time. The finance was ultimately provided by CA Auto Finance Ltd on a 60-month agreement.
Less than two weeks after purchasing the van, I contacted the dealer because the AdBlue and DPF warning lights had appeared. I subsequently experienced serious mechanical problems including limp mode, loss of power, excessive smoking, thermostat issues and other engine-related problems.
Within around four months of purchasing the vehicle, TrustFord Dagenham documented significant mechanical issues. Their October 2024 records recorded a leaking radiator, coolant leak, front engine cover leak and oil leak from the front cover. Further work was required at TrustFord in December 2024, including replacement of the leaking radiator.
At the time, I was unaware of my rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Had I understood my rights at the time, I would have seriously considered seeking to reject the vehicle rather than continuing to spend money trying to keep it on the road.
The van was essential for a newly established business I had started. As the problems continued, I could no longer rely on the vehicle for work and the situation ultimately contributed to me having to close the business.
I then voluntarily terminated the finance agreement and had to take out a £10,000 personal loan to fund the amount required to do so.
In total, I paid £12,301.98 directly to CA Auto Finance, excluding the additional money I spent dealing with the vehicle’s mechanical problems.
Unfortunately, the story didn’t end there.
After the vehicle was collected, the inspection report dated 5 June 2025 recorded a £1,313.98 damage estimate. I disagreed with the inspection findings at the time. Importantly, the same report recorded that the vehicle would not start due to a mechanical fault.
Months later, CA Auto Finance placed a £9,025 damage charge onto my account. They subsequently applied a £3,500 adjustment, leaving a balance of £5,525, which I am formally disputing.
I have not been provided with a satisfactory explanation of how the £5,525 was calculated or why it bears so little resemblance to the £1,313.98 damage estimate recorded at the time of inspection.
And this is the part I find particularly ironic:
I voluntarily terminated the agreement because the vehicle had developed serious problems and I could no longer rely on it — yet I am now being asked to pay £5,525 for alleged damage to that same vehicle.
My concerns did not suddenly appear when I terminated the agreement. They began less than two weeks after purchase when the AdBlue and DPF warning lights first appeared.
I have since found other online reviews and forum discussions describing negative experiences with RW Motor Company, including complaints relating to vehicle condition and problems arising after purchase. I cannot independently verify other people's accounts, but it is concerning to discover these accounts after going through my own experience.
I have also since discovered that RW Motor Company subsequently operated from 11 Blaenwern, Cwmbran, NP44 1TY, and that a business now trading as Cwmbran Motors is operating from the Springvale Industrial Estate. I cannot comment on the reasons for the change of trading name or the circumstances surrounding the businesses, but this is part of the history I have since uncovered.
I want to be fair to Car Finance 247: I am not claiming that they caused the mechanical problems or that they personally inspected the vehicle. My concern is that I used Car Finance 247 to obtain finance for this vehicle/dealer combination, and the overall experience that followed has been extremely costly and damaging.
The financial & personal consequences have been significant. I had to close a newly established business, take on substantial debt and have dealt with this situation for a prolonged period. It has had a serious impact on my mental health.
