The only reason this is a 2-star review, and not a 1-star review, is overall we have bought a bright and beautiful home. However, the purchasing process involved in reaching this stage has left a bitter taste. So I hope in writing this that at least one person stops and thinks twice about buying a Charles Church home, as these people are ruthless, greedy and do not seem to care! At many times during the purchase process, I had to stop and remind myself who was the paying customer here, as it did not feel like I was giving this Company nearly three quarters of a million pounds, moreover I was made to feel that they were doing me a favour.

Let’s not forget that CC is supposedly the premium side of Persimmon Homes and the only thing that was premium here was our stress levels.

We encountered delays with our completion date, all of which were as a result of problems in our property chain. We missed our 6-week deadline to exchange contracts (I would like to know how many people in a property chain actually achieve this!). We had the threat of CC pulling the plug on the deal for over three weeks, during which time we had sleepless nights and this had an impact on our health. When our completion target was missed, CC terminated our contract and put the property back on the market. We had told them that our issues with our chain should be resolved within one week; however, they would not tell us during this time if we were still able to proceed with our purchase. When we were finally in a position to exchange contracts, we called Charles Church and told them we were ready to exchange contracts, and were then told we could still go ahead, but they were reducing our stamp duty incentive by £10,000. Nice.

Our sales adviser throughout the process, when she was trying to get the deal pushed through was rather fond of using the phrase “we can’t be resting on our laurels”. It is clear that whoever constructed our property was resting somewhere as there are some major defects, some of which have still not been resolved, even though we have now been in the property for over 7 weeks. Our biggest problem is our kitchen island, which has not been put in straight, or level with the rest of the kitchen. As a result the kitchen worktops at one end fit under the island by approx. 15mm, but the other end they are outside the island by about the same amount. We also had no hot water in kitchen for over a week (good job we had paid extra for a utility sink).

Charles Church were very unforgiving with us for not achieving the completion date and this has financially hit us. However, they seem to think that an apology for not installing our kitchen correctly and failing to correct this issue within the timescale set out in their own code of conduct is acceptable.

I would not recommend buying through this Company, but if you do, check your defects before you complete. Charles Church seem more desperate to build these houses as quickly as possible, get your money, without caring about the standard.

We’ve recently moved into our new Charles Church home at Wellington Gate and wanted to leave a special mention for Jamie and Paula, who have both been absolutely fantastic throughout the whole process.

From reserving our home right through to completion and moving in, they were both incredibly friendly, helpful and approachable. Buying a new-build can feel like quite a daunting process, but Jamie and Paula made everything so much easier. They were always happy to answer our endless questions, kept us informed along the way and were genuinely lovely to deal with throughout.

What really stood out to us was how personal they made the whole experience feel. We never felt like we were just another sale or plot number. They both genuinely seemed excited for us and made what was already a huge milestone feel even more special.

Even after we had exchanged and completed, they have continued to be just as welcoming and helpful, which says a lot. Every time we’ve popped into the sales office or needed anything, we’ve always been greeted warmly and nothing has ever felt like too much trouble.

We absolutely love our new home and couldn’t have asked for a better experience with the sales team at Wellington Gate. Jamie and Paula are both a huge credit to Charles Church, and we’d happily recommend buying here based on our experience with them.

Recently purchased a Charles church home. Paul the sales man is very helpful and can’t do enough for you. Always makes time for you even though he is busy. Site staff are very good and the house is lovely. Some snagging issues but these are being sorted out.

New build ready in a timely way with reasonable flexibility being in a chain. Too many changes leading up to final completion, first kitchen unit choice, followed by sanatory wear, then kitchen layout and finally choice of tiles but suitable alternatives. Good and helpful post moving customer service but let down by third party suppliers. Site Manager helpful and proactive. Standard of workmanship average to good but more or less as expected. No flexibility re build or layout.

A very professional and positive experience with all staff and teams being very helpful from the beginning of our journey. Excellent communication at all times, we were always in the loop with any issues and the team went above and beyond to assist us in our journey to getting our dream house! Thank you so much!

We have been in our new Charles Church home 4 weeks now at Festival Park Easton and the staff have all been amazing, any issued are dealt with quickly and efficiently nothing is too much work.
Steve has been great and supported with all the little snags, always checking in and couldn't be more helpful.
Shane has been brilliant since hes taken over, he is always available to help answer any issues and supports with fixes, his customer service is second to none.
Will @ TW civils has been really helpful, quick with responses and made any little issues we have rectified quickly, can't recommend him and the company enough.

We’re in the purchase process and so far the Charles Church experience has been amazing

Everything that was offered or promised was not delivered, part exchange amount, access to the property after exchange, deposit contribution. You name it, they moved or even removed it. In the end we cancelled the purchase of the plot.

This is an amazing company to purchase your new home from. Moved to grove and Ji the site manager has been nothing but supportive and helpful through the whole process. Great guy! He goes above and beyond expectations.

The standard of property and the outstanding support from the sales manager Caitlin. We have a part exchange and the process was straightforward and well executed.

We purchased our home in Oakhurst Village nearly two years ago. While Customer Care Team was responsive during our first year, it’s been a nightmare in the second year. The service over the past four months has been deeply disappointing.

Despite submitting a list of clear warranty issues, such as a leak, door lock problems, wall cracks, and lifting floor tiles, none of the issues has been fixed and our requests have been largely ignored.

We have sent numerous follow-up emails, only to be completely ghosted. With our two-year maintenance period expiring in less than a month, it feels as though repairs are being deliberately delayed until the warranty ends.

I strongly advise prospective buyers to consider this severe lack of long-term customer support before purchasing from this developer.

Great communication with sales rep, explains everything so we understand clearly.

We first met with Julia a couple of months ago who showed us around the different homes they have available at Festival Park Norwich. We fell in love with the Chopwell. We have now sold and went back for another viewing before reserving our Plot. Kim has now taken over at the Charles Church office, which is great as we got on so well, when we met Kim down the road in the Persimmons office. Kim has been brilliant helping us to reserve our plot and go through all of the designs for the house. We are so excited for the next few months before we move in early next year.
