Steer Clear if You Move
Never, ever use this company for a move. I paid nearly $12,000 for them to move my belongings from Portland, OR, to NYC. They took two weeks to do it because they foolishly scheduled the move right around Thanksgiving. They broke my antique furniture and my lamps which belonged to my mother and my grandmother. They wrecked the front door of my new apartment. They scuffed and scraped the newly painted walls. They squashed my wardrobe boxes so badly that my best clothes were mashed into tight bundles.
One of the guys who helped carry my things in kept hustling me for a tip by telling me about his seven children, which miraculously increased to 12 children a few hours later. While I made the check out to Mayflower, I'm not certain who actually did the move since the driver told me that, at the very end, HE had to rent a Penske truck to bring my things to my new home.
The most the people at Chipman did to deal with this fiasco was send me forms to file claims for the damages. As far as helping to find local furniture restorers who could do the work, forget it. They did, however, offer unctuous lip service about "escalating" my complaints about this fiasco to management. And so far I have not heard one word from anyone in management, not even an apology. This company is overpriced, careless and reckless.
