Great Service from EEAS

On both occasions I've contacted EASS, I've found the Advisors to be very helpful whilst maintaining professional impartiality.

On the last occasion I spoke with Jamie who listened to what I was saying and where required, Jamie sought clarification on what I was saying to ensure we both had the same understanding of the matter before giving me helpful advice and signposting for further information and support.

Brilliant advice and support from EAS

I have today had the pleasure of receiving support from the Equality Advice Service, and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. Two parts review

There are two parts to my review.

The first is regarding the amazing help and support that I received on two separate occasions from both Jayne and Kerry in providing me with letters to help me. In respect of the help from Kerry , her letter actually got me the reasonable adjustments that I desperately needed from a particularly difficult organisation and was exactly the help and assistance that I needed.

As someone with complex mental health disabilities I seem to suffer disability discrimination and failure to make the reasonable adjustments that I need from different organisations and service providers on an almost weekly basis now.

This is why I have given the EASS 5 stars in this review because it is a service that I personally need and for the excellent support I have received from Jayne and Kerry previously.

However, the second part of my review is regarding a the current difficulties that I am having with another organisation and which I have brought to the EASS under reference number 250224 - 000077 and is in the hope that it will result in someone from the EASS kindly calling me to help me.

Unfortunately this time I do not feel that the difficulties that I have disclosed in respect of my struggles with email and written communication is being understood and I am not getting the simple help that I need this time which is the same as the help and support that I was given previously which is affecting my health and causing me severely stress and anxiety.

But I would never complain as I am not that kind of person and the EASS has been excellent for me previously.

Hopefully now I will get a call from a supervisor or a manager who has more experience and understanding of mental health disabilities as it is hard to get to speak with someone like this by calling the helpline number.

Also, if I did call the main helpline number I would struggle to explain.

In regards to the other aspects of your review, we are an inbound service and our advice team is fully trained to handle individuals with mental health disabilities. However, our managers are here to manage the service and therefore, they would not be able to provide you with more in-depth advice than our advice team, who are equipped with all of the information you need. Whilst we’re happy to have been able to resolve some of your issues previously, unfortunately, this may not always be the case. This is because our abilities to assist are based on the types of issue you have and the organisations that you are experiencing an issue with. The EASS are an informal service and don't have any enforcement powers, so we can only inform organisations of their duty under the Equality Act 2010 and encourage them to make the necessary changes. After looking at your record with the reference provided, I can see your issue is regarding reasonable adjustments. However, the service provider has already informed you of the reasons why they are unable to make the adjustments for you. So, in this case, we are unlikely to be able to get a more positive resolution. Whilst under the Act service providers have an anticipatory duty to ensure their services are accessible, your request may not be deemed as reasonable by the organisation based on the reasons they have already provided.

I understand that this outcome is frustrating, but unfortunately we have already provided all the support that we're able to in this instance, but we wish you the best of luck in resolving the issue using the organisations that we have signposted you to.

I called EASS in hopes of getting some advice on my employment situation. I was put through to Jamie an Equality Advisor. She asked me brief questions to get more of an understanding on my situation, Then clearly broke down my options. Jamie was very helpful abd made me feel very confident about my situation. Excellent help, support and guidance

Used the online chat feature for help and advice.
Was helped by an advisor called Whitney.
The service was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping with my query and gave me support and guidance going forward with my issue.

Called 5 times today , no answer at all

This service is crap . No agents who answer the calls or even online just continuing searching for agent and I am 1st in the queue . This is a waste of tax money and called 5 times this morning and they cheeky asked me about how the agent did all 5 timed with no agent at all . These are liers about civil rights and I was recommended by ofcom to call these . They just want free money that's it .

Awful service

What a joke! No advice given after several attempts to contact these people.
Emails not responded to in sufficient time.
Constantly asking the same questions which have been replied to.
Agreed to call me which did not happen. Rang the representative, no answer, left a message. Never again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I'm sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the service you've received from us.

I've taken a look at your records and I'm unable to see an occasion where we have agreed to call you back. We are predominantly an inbound helpline, and wouldn't usually make callbacks. We also do not have your contact phone number on record.

However, I do completely agree that the number of questions you were asked in regard to this issue was excessive and I will address this with the adviser in question.

I can see though that you were advised towards the beginning of your contact with us that the issue you have experienced, though understandably upsetting, is something that would be unlikely to fall under the Equality Act 2010 due to it being a problem with the service users of your workplace and not directly under a sector that the Act covers.

I can see that we have provided some signposting to organisations that may be better placed to assist in these circumstances and I wish you the best of luck in resolving your issue to your satisfaction.
