Martin Tolhurst Solicitors are the best solicitors I've ever used! In 2021 I purchased a property. Alan Stevens in Ashford handled the conveyancing - I didn'thave to chase once, Alan was on the case before I even had to time to think! I went back to them as I had a problem with another property and had a face to face appointment with Richard Carter who agreed to help me and I'm so grateful to him. It wasn't easy due to other third parties involved but Richard stuck with me and we were able to get the matter resolved and I could then move on and sell the property. The conveyancing this time was handled by Richard and his team, Heidi, Melissa and Alan, again exceptional service and I can't thank them enough. I recommend them very highly and will certainly use them again.

From first contact, i received a friendly and professional and also sympathetic service. Everything was explained clearly so i understand the process.
Regular updates and communication was received without it being unnecessary and at all times i was given professional and honest advice. Trust with solicitor's is sometime hard, but i was told what i needed to hear, not what i wanted at times. This is incredibly important as you are paying them, so easy to be led along and just get a big bill. It was a real pleasure dealing with them, they made a difficult situation much easier to deal with and i can not thank them enough for all their help and advice.

Instructed Martin Tolhurst to assist with conveyancing a residential property (our first home). Was recommended their services by my brother-in-law who used them on completing the purchase of his property. Was a little sceptical at start however all concerns were soon put to ease with a checklist I could track the progress of the purchase and regular updates from Abdul and the team. Work progressed at a good pace Abdul ensured that we were taking steps in the right direction every week. He also pointed out things that we would need to look out for which was very helpful and he was very accessible and approachable for any enquiries. We are very pleased with our experience with Abdul and Martin Tolhurst. I would recommend their services to friends and family.

Avoid at all costs. Worst Solicitor ever, and ive dealt with a few, as cash buyer for a quick sale i made a terrible mistake using Martin Tolhurst, Lucy Nelson was awful, a simple cash sale took months and months, she failed in every aspect of due diligence imo, at one point telling me i didnt need to know who the seller was when she sent over half a land registry report, i had to spoon feed her on how to do her job, we also asked why was there scaffolding around the building, she didnt answer us, just didnt bother, it is a fair question! Instead she preferred to insult me to 'keep me quiet' i was treated like a nuisance, I then found out the company took our commision and then started working for the seller, apparently against my interest, they delayed the sale for months because the seller didnt have paperwork regarding a share of freehold that he should have had pre advertisement imo, they then demanded £540 for said paperwork, i couldnt buy the property unless I paid this 'fee' of £540 according to Lucy Nelson, i paid, and the paperwork then came through as a garbled mess, there were additional charges on top of £1200 service charge, as part of a lease agreement between 3 freeholders that was not optional, it was mandatory, no explanation of where the money will be banked who controls the money, its unclear what work will be done for my £1200 plus fees contribution, the share of freehold seemed to give the purchaser no rights whatsoever. There were service issues obvious at the property, This didnt matter apparently, i just pay the money regardless and do the work myself. I complained to M Tolhurst senior staff, one Richard Baker about Lucy and the £540 charge, they defended the practice of working for both parties, charging me £540 for the 'management pack' and Lucy's misleading and insulting actions, and tried to tell me i didnt understand the process, having no say in how the management company was run or how the money was spent was normal! He suggested if charges were unreasonable i could get a solicitor involved lol. Both Lucy and Richard said, 'well you can drop out of the sale' (they had circa 1k off me already). Seems thats a thing, mess a client about for months, hope they walk away, keep their fees 🤷🏻‍♂️ i wonder what the law society would say? So i now have to deal with a complicated management company set up post sale to try and get obvious work done because Martin Tolhurst acted in their interest over mine, during the sale process imo, I was their initial client, I will find out what the Law Society have to say!

Lesley Weller and her assistant Alicia were responsible for both the sale of our old home and purchase of our new one. They always responded professionally and timely to all our queries and made the process run as smoothly as possible. We are very grateful to have been appointed with Lesley and would highly recommend her without hesitation.

We were referred to Martin Tolhurst by our mortgage advisors. We didn’t really know anything about buying a property, especially as it was our first home, but we were still very excited. However, throughout the whole process, our assigned solicitor Lucy Nelson from Martin Tolhurst, made it a very stressful and horrible experience right from the start. We considered going somewhere else but couldn’t afford to lose the fees we already paid.
Everytime we phoned to talk to Lucy she was either on holiday or unavailable. We did a lot of chasing and most of the time we dealt with another staff member Leah-May and thankfully she was very helpful.
The email communication we did receive from Lucy were usually very short and blunt, often just a blank signatured email with an attached file. She rarely explained anything to us, which made us feel worse about what questions we were asking. Important documents we were sent to sign often had mistakes in them, usually obvious ones like an incorrect address or name. Some responses over the phone or email were rude and unprofessional.
We wish we had done more independent research beforehand and would have gone somewhere local.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, save yourself the extra stress, time and money and go somewhere else!

Having used Martin Tolhurst before they were the obvious choice when I needed a solicitor following the passing of my daughter.From our first meeting Charlotte was friendly and professional making me feel at ease in what was a very difficult time.
She explained in simple terms exactly what was involved in applying for probate and throughout the process I was kept up to date on everything.Any problems were dealt with quickly and emails and phone calls dealt with.

Throughout the sale of my property I had regular updates, issues were dealt with as they occurred and someone always answered the phone when I called and was able to deal with- and usually solve- my query. It was a pleasure to know there was a member of staff always available and not AI! Buying and selling property (if you don't do it regularily) can be daunting but the process passed without a hitch.

I was very happy with the service received from Molly from the Gillingham office and the team working with her for my sale and purchase. Molly was always quick and efficient and ready to answer any queries. At one point the sale and purchase nearly fell through (through no fault of the team) and Molly did everything she could to save the sale and purchase which finally led to a very quick completion.
